Do not take your child to see this movie. I was a little dissapointed in this film, I just expected more. Then again how they made this movie from a 10 page book is beyond me. My jury is out on this movie it was alittle messed up in my mind. It's your dollar should you choose to go see it.

I went to see this movie with my sister and boyfriend. All three of us are in our 30s. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My boyfriend didn't have much to say. This is not a movie for children. There is nothing that I can think would be inappropriate for a child, but i don't know any children that would not be bored by it, I would describe it as pure drama not action. I think this movie was for all of us that grew up with this book and are now adults.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

One of the most visually stunning movies I have ever seen! "District 9" comes to mind thinking of a film that the effects blew me away. Niether of these are kids movies. This movie is about broken homes, a depressing subject. Angst, fear and anger pervade throughout it. The story just won't relate to kids with traditional families and the suddlety of the details won't speak to kids at all. The childs acting was great. ART FILM ON STERIODS sums it up.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It's good to review reactions ahead of time, to know what NOT to expect. Our group of twenty-somethings who grew up with the book really liked this thought-provoking interpretation, the visuals, the acting, the music. Remember it is from the child's perspective and limited experience. His resolution of issues is like the short vampire story he tells his mother. The action seems slow because he does not yet know how to deal with these issues, which stops forward progress. He is not interacting with the wild things, as much as confronting reflections of his own emotions.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My husband and our three daughters ages 14, 12 and 7 are all fans of the book. We all were looking forward to the movie. It was a weird blend of overwhelming sadness and boredom. No one in our family liked it. Worst movie we have seen in a while.

This movie was very dissapointing to both of my grandkids and myself. I have 2 grandsons, one is 13 years old and one is almost 6 years old. The 13 year old wanted to see the movie, he did not like it. He said there were only about 30 words in the book and it told a better story. He thought the movie was weird and boring.. The 5 year old did not like it at all and wanted to leave 2 different times.
I think we all expected more!

My three year old granddaughter and I loved the movie. No, it isn't Disney...it isn't princesses and animation, but it is an unusual and throught provoking insight into childhood. It doesn't have to be heroes and villians to capture the mind of a child. or an adult! I loved it.

While visually stunning, the movie seemed longer than it was and was awfully slow. It was completely inappropriate for children under the age of 10, as parents would be hard pressed to explain the violence and sadness of the characters. The greater challenge for parents might be dealing with children who "act out" after the movie...imitating both the lead actor and the beasts.

I wanted to like this movie. But after the first 20 minutes I was BORED listening to them whine, complain and beat on each other for 'fun.' I found the actors to be quite believable. (Especially Max.) I think the STORY was just lame. My recommendation: wait for it to play on cable...it won't take long.

This movie is unique, not like all the others. The colors and characters are very neutral, this does not have all the bells and whistles and bright colors that would excite a young child. However, my 7 yr old daughter read this book at school and was interested in seeing the movie. I was shocked at first, at the lack of bright colors and bells and whistles. However, my daughter gained and I gained a better understanding of child psychology and the human development, and I think that she was able to learn seeing this from a boy's point of view. I would not have recommended this movie to any child younger than 7, or if your child is looking for the usual cookie cutter movie with the laughs, bright colors, and utopia of child kingdoms.

I brought my twins to see this, with high hopes, and in the end I felt really let down. Spike Jonze made a visually sumptuous film, but, if I really had to condense it to one thing, the Wild Things were really down all the time. Either fighting, or complaining, or moaning, ugh. I guess if Max liked it there, he would never have wanted to go back home, but as it was for my group, we couldn't wait to get home either.

Yes, it was well done, but no...this move is NOT for your children. A quarter of the way thru, our four year old asked if we could go home, and at the halfway point, our seven year old was looking around the theater to see the other people there.

Was planning on taking my 4 year old nephew to this movie but after doing the research and reading the reviews decided not to since the director himself said it wasn't geared towards young children, and he was right. From an adult's point of view, who adored the book, I loved the movie. I thought the story was complex enough to hold my interest while not ruining the creativity and free interpretation the original book allowed. The script and acting were excellent and the visualization was beautiful. I would highly recommend to older children and adults.

This movie is very deceiving and I was very disappointed. What it showed was a spoiled brat demanding to be fed by his mother while standing on the kitchen table, who would not kiss his butt and then he ran away. When he did go into his fantasy world he lied and deceived all the creatures around them also wanting them to do things his way and then going back home when he decided he had enough. This teaches children it is okay to yell at their parents, have temper tantrums, be destructive and make demands AND receiving no consequences for it in the process.

Max, a very troubled boy in serious need of psychiatric counseling, meets with a bunch of suicidal (although beautifully created) Wild Things, seemingly straight out of one of Woody Allen's nightmares. The movie itself was very artistic however it was just so sad. The boy obviously has some severe problems, which is not really how I read the actual book. I was really glad that I didn't take my five year old to see it. She would have been scared and would not have understood what was going on, even though it is one of her favorite books. I think the director read a lot into the movie. I have to admit I was a little disturbed by how aggressive the boy was.

I thought the movie Where the Wild Things Are was a marvelous piece of art work. I had seen the creation of the film and I was blown away by the final project. I feel the movie is more on adult level because it was dark. It was so sad to see a boy who felt so alone and who was depressed.

This movie is a great artistic achievement. One of the most beautiful and original films I've ever seen. Even though the deep themes will not reach young kids, I still think they will be memorized by the wild things. I can't think of a movie I've seen recently that made me cry this hard and took my breath away quite like this one. See it at all costs.

I can accept a "family" film that bucks formula and isn't cute, as this film certainly isn't. But, there is an odd, sad, maybe even hopeless tone to this film, and once our hero arrives 'where the wild things are' I personally couldn't wait for him, nor me, to get the heck out. It wasn't intended to be funny, it was intended to explore the mind of a disturbed child, and that's the level where it succeeds -- it's disturbing. To be fair, most of my party, including 10-11 year olds, enjoyed it, though none thought it was "great".
