This Movie truhly sucked big time. I wanted a shot gun so I could take the main monster out of its misery. He literally scared my kis to death. Kind of reminded me of my Psycho Ex with his behavior.........

Honestly hated it and felt guilty that I had exposed my children to such an angry and depressed film. While the costumes were superb, I can't believe that Spike Jonze took such a lovely celebration of childhood imagination and turned into such a psychological downer.

It is probably a bit dark for many kids, but then the book is dark.
It's a given, that liberties will be taken with the plot, when making a movie out of such a short book. I think the choices for extending the story were mostly good. I do wish that he had stared down the beasts like in the book. With so short a story, why change anything?
The effects are great and I was transported not necessarily into the wold of the book, but to one very much inspired by it. We all loved the book so, that any tampering with it, feels a bit like a violation. So for that reason, many will be disappointed. However, if you can get past that (big if for some, I know) the beasts, the boy and the family who inspired them are all there.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I was very surprised to see Maurice Sendak was one of the producers for this film! This film took a great book and destroyed it. The movie was visually dark and drab, and the story was depressing and scary. There was nothing in this film that made the heart happy. This is one film I wish I had never seen and will never see again. I think it is a disgrace that Warner Brothers spent so much money on it and I can't understand why Tom Hanks was involved either. I can't wait to see Disney's A Christmas Carol or even The Princess and The Frog for that matter!

I thought it was really lovely. It was sad, but I didn't find it incredibly depressing, just rooted in real life personalities rather than fantasy. I enjoyed each of the personalities and figuring out how they related to Max. Visually stunning and a great soundtrack.

This movie had strong moral points, but it took forever to get to them. The beginning sequence was not something I want to teach my kids, the behavior throughout the movie was a poor example. For the older (past fourteen) viewer this movie would be good if it weren't so slow.

I never read this book as a child. But I saw all the coming attractions, and all the pictures and read about it before it. I was so excited. The movie was a very good movie, I love the monsters and Max. I loved the lessons learned. I also did cry at the end before the boy went back home. I don't think it's a good movie for children under 10 years old. From the movie they might learn things that Max did, but aren't good to really do and might get bored and not understand it. But definitely for teens, young adults and adults. I guess you need like a childlike mind, for this movie but still be mature to watch it and understand it.

Just too dark and grown up for a light hearted book. Boys can have so much fun in the woods with their make believe friends, but not in this movie. Way too grown up and sometimes distrubing for a 10 year old to watch. Skip it and save your $$.

I chose to see this movie because I like many of the fantasy/animated films that I've seen and I occassionally need to feed that inner child in me. I could have chosen the popular Paranormal but I needed my sleep and heard if I saw it I wasn't going to sleep well if at all for a few nights. This movie was enjoyable because although it was meant for children it was very much geared for adults as well and really touched my heart. A little predictable but enjoyable just the same and fun to see the amazaing characters that were shown. What creativity. I say it's worth seeing.

While we adults liked the movie, our kids (ages 10 & 6) got bored about halfway through. They were impressed by the way the monsters in the book were brought to life, but for them the movie drug on and the underlying plot that was created to explain Max's behavior was a little too much for them.

I saw this movie with my husband, and 10 and 12 year old, and none of us had a clue as to what we were supposed to take away from this movie. I understand that Spike is a "cool" director, but I just couldn't stand this movie. No one in the family had a clue what it was about - nothing ever happened, and the symbolism was so buried that it was just plain confusing. There was absolutely no story, or character development. Good monsters, but a lousy story. Sorry, Spike, this is a big miss.

I enjoyed this movie because I could identify with Max. I thought the movie offered a good laymens perspective into child psychology in that none of Max's monsters were evil they were all children and each of them represented an aspect of Maxs Psychie. However the important relationship in the movie is not the relationship Max has with his monsters but with his mother, which is salvaged by the end of the film. in other words its not half bad jack.

This movie is not watchable in most situations. Treat this like a really sappy love movie, even though its not. The plot isn't amazing, though it has some good parts. The general point of the movie was to make an emotional roller coaster, through happy or sad situations and music, but as far as actual intrinsic value, Where the Wild Things Are offers very little.

I read the reviews and knew what to expect. I liked this movie a lot. I knew the Wild Things were symbolic of Max's home life and looked for ways that was portrayed. I loved the wild thing characters and the funny things they said. My husband and I discussed this movie through dinner afterwards. Someone said that this movie is especially enjoyed by 20-30 year olds who remember the book. I agree. Also like the sound track. The only thing I didn't like was the shaky camera.

Seeing as the book itself consisted of little more than a paragraph of text, I knew the film was going to rely on a lot of improvisation in order to fill out a full-length feature. Unfortunately, the screenplay did not live up to the ambiance of the the book. Caught between child's play and maturity, the dialogue between characters just doesn't have any real substance to tie its themes effectively or in a convincing manner. Unfortunately, the film went down with it.

This movie gives wonderful insight into the little boy's mind. Dealing with the things in his life that he is not yet equipped to deal with in any other way. You really get a sense of what he must be going through and the way children use "play" and creativity to work through their issues. Children, even roudy children such as this little boy, are sensitive and emotional creatures.
A truly fascinating film, but more for parents or those of us who are now grown but loved the story as kids. It will keep you tense much of the time and it will make you smile at the awesome creativity of children.

I took my 9 year old neice to see this movie and she was texting her Mother throughout the film because she was bored! It was a tough film to follow, but the creatures were AMAZING and the kid was a good actor. I found it to be too dark of a film for kids, a little violent at times and not appropriate for kids. I am a big fan of the book-this movie was a let-down.

I enjoyed this movie, and I would recommend it, but not to those bringing their children.
Despite the PG rating, and despite this not being a 'dark' movie, we would do well to let the little ones skip a film containing a 'D' word, an 'H' word, and a character's limb being severed gratuitously.
The conclusion is unclear---to adults and to kids alike---as to a moral to the story or even a reason why the ending provided was supposed to be a particularly positive one. One would expect a film made from a kid's book would be better suited for kids' consumption.
Flaws aside, this is a wonderful film for adults to savor the fresh fun, creativity, dialogue, and cinematography which keeps viewers enthralled through it all.

For an adaptation from a sparsely worded , beautifully illustrated children's book classic, I think this was done thoughtfully and beautifully. This takes everyday emotions and translates them into a child's perspective. The wild things are so true to Sendak's illustrations that I felt like I already knew them.
My only wish is that Jonze would have diverted from the shaky camera that film directors seem to insist on using since the Blair Witch Project... does every moment have to make us naseated? I had to look away a few times to get my bearings from the shakiness of the camera...
I can't wait for this on DVD and look forward to watching with my daughter when she is older...
