Two 47 year olds and two 13 year olds loved it. We got it. My 13 year old is a bit offbeat and welcomed the lack of substantive plot. You have to let go and just let the images take you places. The kid who played Max is great!!!

I personally like the movie. But I brought my four kids to it ages 6, 11, 15, & 19. It was a little dark for the younger two, kinda like a Tim Burton film. Great cinematography! Just not what we were expecting to see.

beautiful to watch! A boy's journey to this wild place shows him how to look at life from a different perspective, while throwing dirt clods and tumbling down sand dunes!
My favorite bedtime story to read to my kids when they were young....They were both with me to share this experience! Made it that mch more special for me!

This book was the first one ever read to me in Kindergarten class.
The costumes match the illustrations in the book.
The movie is good, not for the scenes or costumes, but for lessons little kids will get from it. Each monster had a child-like mind, temperment. The boy was able to help the monsters with their problems because he had the exact same ones at home.
Also, how to solve problems when interacting with other kids ( in a playground or at school) is addressed.
This isn't a Disney movie. It's not a special effects blockbuster. It's just what the book was- a life lesson for kids.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Loved the book. Wanted to like the movie, but found it depressing, too much added stuff, too little of what I loved in the book (including the last line of the book "and it was still warm." The last line summed up a lot of what the movie lacked. My kids would have rated it a 3 because of the great design elements, but they agreed it was a real downer of a movie.

If you can not think outside of the box...this movie is not for you. The book was originally about a boy and his wild imagination and I was anxious to see how a director would bring this slightly disturbing but beautifully illustrated book to life. Spike Jonez did a amazing job at making the movie as beautifully abstract as the book. Loved it. Second time I cried this year at an childrens movie this year.

I have read the book & I love author Sendak. Better to get the book and read it with your child. Spike Jonze obviously had a huge challenge: How do you take such a small book and make it into a full-length live action motion picture? Some media does not translate well to the big screen and this is one example of that weak conversion. I give the movie 2 stars for the attempt, the creature effects (reminded me a bit of an advanced version of HR Puffenstuff from years ago on TV) and the cinematography. There's just not enough "there" there.

This movie is definitely full of fun, and heartbreak. It brought back memories of REAL childhood, where there was hurt, uncontrollable feelings that you thought no one could understand. Where The Wild Things Are took me to a place that I understood... but my seven year old didn't understand it. We all shed some tears, I left feeling good, hoping we could go back to that world... but it is not for young children. I might almost say it was too mature for my seven year old.

The movie is an interesting script written off a book that is barely over 10 pages long. It brings the story to a real setting so that we can relate to Max. I loved the book as a kid but I was most interested in the creative illustrations. The move translation of these were awesome. I think older kids might be ok with seeing this and getting it but it's not for every child. If you are expecting a Disney storyline this is not it. I went into this movie with no expectations and if you do that you won't be disappointed. It's a strange and original type of fantasy movie. Although I don't like the idea of rewarding a naughty child the adaptation of a mother's relief when her child comes home is done well.

I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time and I really enjoyed it. It captures the spirit of the book so well, and it's truly visually stunning (I grew up with the book and recognized many of the screen shots as mirroring the book's illustrations). I thought Max was PERFECT--the character was spot-on and his acting was excellent. The one thing left to be desired was a stronger plot for the island. I can't decide whether the string of somewhat random episodes was intentionally in the spirit of a child's imagination or underdeveloped writing, but I found myself a bit restless through some of it. Still, I highly recommend it--just don't go in expecting a neatly structured story as you would get from Disney, etc.

My son and I enjoyed watching the movie. It was just like the book except they put a more detailed plot to it. My son did ask questions but pretty much understood everything that was going on. My favorite book as a kid... movie awful. Sent a terrible message to kids... All families are mean and it's okay to run away. I am a elem school teacher and mom of a 7 and 5 yr old. Wonderfully recreated "Wild Things" but story was terrible. Left my kids, my husband and I , and my motherinlaw confused at what they were trying to do. We can't figure out what age group was supposed to enjoy this movie??

The book was a favorite of three generations-me, my daughter and my 4 year old grandson. We had been so excited to finally see the movie, but were so disappointed. One line from the movie said it best, "So this is what we've been waiting for?". The wild things were spot on visually but the plot/story line were too dark, deep, and disjointed. The trailers definitely showed the best parts of the movie. My grandson's favorite part was when Max went home to his mother.

I took my 6-year old daughter to the movie. We both loved it. It is a beautiful movie. The monsters are expressive & have interesting personalities. Max was great. It wasn't scary or sad for her. I think adults will understand the sad part of the story and understand the parallels with Max's real life. It is appealing to adults & children. For kids, probably 1st grade and older -- young children who can sit still well and aren't easily frightened. The movie, at 1 1/2 hrs, went by fast for us.

I have never bothered writing a review for a movie until now. But the thought of another parent wasting a good, rainy Saturday taking their children to this boring, slow, depressing movie is making me do it. My 7 year old boy asked me three times during the movie if we could leave. I kept thinking it would get better. My 5 year old left the theater and then burst out crying saying what a sad movie that was. The ending was not uplifting. Just very self indulgent on the director's part. I would like my $26 back.

I was really disappointed; other then the early part of the film which was both insightful and adventurous, the scenes on the island seemed just that - a series of disjointed actions and conversations. There seemed to be no flow , just a lot of introspective navel gazing. Who are these creatures , what were they doing there, why so aggressive with each other? I got the metaphors but boy was it unsubtle for adults and way over the heads of kids.

This was my favorite book when I was a child. The book was great because it did not go into a lot of detail and the pictures allowed you to use your imagination. The movie was really well done but it was a more modern take on real issues (insecurity, jealousy, being lonley) than being a magical escape. It was more complicated and sad than my imagination took me to as a child and as an adult reading the book to children.

Cinema photography is stunning in the I-Max version. Great experience.
Decent story plot.....more children of the age of the boy in the movie should watch this movie with their parents.
Movie ended too abruptly for my taste. After the build up of the boys attitude, then the lessons learned, it ended without his owning up, outwardly to his mom, to the little twit he had become.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
