If the trailers temp you on the possibility of Robots punching out Monsters, then you will not be disappointed!
This movie is what a live-action anime should look and feel like. It gets the characters in and out as quickly as possible so that they can set the stage and the battlefields. Other "Summer Blockbuster" movies tend to promise action and then somewhat deliver (usually the stuff from the trailers is 50% of the action already), But in PacRim, you're going to get action and badassery. This is what Transformers SHOULD of been and what the Halo movie HOPFULLY can provide.
Now, a fair bit of warning:
The acting is ok. Personally think that the actors did really well with the type of script provided but it's going to be cheesy due to the material that the human element needs to fit into all of this. There might be some slow part and groners in the first 40 minutes, but after that bump, It's beat-um-up time in it's finest.
Seriously though, As a person who loves geek culture (Gaming, TableTop, Fandom) PacRim has earned a special place in my heart, one that I'll undoubtedly come back to over and over again in many years. Also, That theme song is the greatest. Try doing something mundane when that theme plays, and watch how it becomes THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU'LL DO THAT DAY.

Loved the giant robots. And the cute little monster parasites. However- they should have grabbed the cameraman and slapped him until he stood still. You could hardly tell what was going on half the time because of the stupid camera shaking all around. I know, it's Modern, Artsy, Actiony, or whatever, but trust me, it's mostly just stupid and irritating.

You've seen the trailers so you know what you are getting in to when you see this movie. And that is what you get. This movie is about Robots punching the heck out of monsters and it delivers. The fights are gorgeous and the CGI and Jaegers look great. Only thing I have to say is that the dialogue and acting come off as a little cheesy, but that didn't hinder the movie at all. Everything considered, it exceeded my expectations greatly and was a perfect summer popcorn flick.

This is a film that was made for the IMAX 3D experience. I've seen it twice. Once in 2D and it was great, and once with the IMAX 3D experience and it was wonderful. It's a film that delivers exactly what it promotes: Monsters and Robots. It's a wonderful homage to all the kids from the 60s to 80s who got bits and pieces of robot anime and shows and the ones who loved Godzilla's monsters. Make no mistake, Godzilla is the king of the Kaiju and most of us going to this film knew that. Kaiju was not a foreign word to us, but it is a word we want to share with others to experience the fun, fantasy and imagination come to life of it all. Del Toro delivers. The production design, the art design are fantastic. The story was nice, the monsters were menacing and very reminiscent of what I expect to come out of the sea. It's a fun, film. I had tons of these films as a child and then nothing for 40 years. I'm glad its back, I'm glad it was in the hands of someone who knew how to present it without under or over presenting it. It's great to show my kids of what they can look forward to as well, and introduce this to a new, more sophisticated audience. No big named lead actors made the film even better and more nostalgic, because we really knew who the stars were in those films back then: The monsters. The Robots. The actors did a fantastic job, not one of them fouled up given the material they were handed. They played it to the hilt and added to the fun and excitement. I wish we got to see more of those International Jaegers stationed to take care of the Pacific Rim monsters, and get more into the stories of the International pilots. It was mostly narrative. This would have added to it. Bring on more.

the movie would have been just as enjoyable if it was not in 3d. They did not utilize the 3d rendering enough. With 3D i like things coming at me out of the screen not just giving the picture depth.

This was my first IMAX movie. And I really enjoyed IMAX it self! This movie was just like every other "end of the world" movie. The only bad part was in the fighting scenes you couldn't tell who was who. And who was winning. (Me and my boyfriend, who loved this movie agreed on this.)

This wasn't just a movie, it was an experience. The first 8th of the film started off on a strange foot; having seem it twice, I now love it, but watching it the first time I was wondering where the hell it was going. Then somewhere along the line I got sucked in and was a PART of the movie. Every time I saw something amazing and thought, no way can they top this, something else would happen that would have my mouth dropping open. I saw so many incredible things I've never seen in a theater before, and it left me feeling excited and inspired, and I immediately wanted to delve back into the world of Pacific Rim. Go see it ASAP, preferable in IMAX. Trust me, this movie deserves it.

Pacific Rim was excellent. Must see in IMAX 3D 70MM for the full effect and enjoy the greatness of this film! This is a Sci-Fi lover MUST SEE! I'm sure I'll see it again just to enjoy all the special effect without having to concentrate on the dialogue.

Guillermo del Toro does a great job of making a war/action movie with a different type of enemy and a new way to fight them. It is done in such a great way that it should not alienate anyone and that no previous knowledge of monsters or robots is needed to enjoy the movie. Go in, grab some popcorn, and be entertained for the entire length of the movie.

Fundamentally, they've successfully created a world in immediate peril, gathered a team of compelling characters, and reminded the viewing audience what a true heroic act looks like.
There's no bumbling. There's no accidental success. The rightfully outclassed 'hero' didn't win with a sly stab in the end. There's no angst. Instead we witness acts of courage, conviction, talent, and training. The team that leads to success is huge. The pilots are on point, but would be nothing without the engineers building the tools. The plan would have failed if not for a tenacious researcher who knew more intelligence on the enemy was required. It was glorious.
Two emphatic thumbs up!

When I first saw the previews I was not planning on seeing the movie however I am glad that I did see it. The special effects were amazing and you really felt part of the movie with IMAX. The story line is like most movies but this was much better than Transformers.

This is a "big" movie. The alien monsters are huge (could eat Godzilla in one gulp), the robots that fight them are 25 stories tall, and all of the various sets are equally huge. I was very impressed with the overall scale of everything in this movie. And of course with today's special effects everything looks amazingly real.
I found the movie mostly entertaining. For me, the various battles between the aliens and robots each went on too long. There were several different battle scenes and each one could have been cut by half which would have reduced the movie's overlong two hours and eleven minute running time.
My only other quibble is the introduction of several cornball characters. I could have done without the two constantly squabbling scientists. Actually, they needed to be in the movie as they were important to the plot but did they really have to be such clowns? However, my girl friend thought they were entertaining. She is obviously easily amused.
I liked Charlie Hunnam, a tv actor playing the lead role. And Rinko Kukuchi was an interesting presence. Idris Elba came across as a little too stiff and uptight for me.
Overall an entertaining movie although most of that for me was the special effects.

Pacific Rim was just the best summer movie ever. The effects were great, the story was good without being too heavy, there was comic relief, it felt like the monster movies we grew up watching, only SO MUCH BETTER!
All of the actors did a great job, but Ron Perlman just about steals the show.

Fun movie romp. CG is incredible, but most action scenes occur at night/low light and some off the action detail is hidden. Dialog at times is garbled and not understandable. I have never been a real fan of 3D, but this is OK. The story line is complete and a really good stand alone movie. Acting is decent, especially for unknowns. This is one movie I plan on seeing twice at the theaters and I don't do that very often. This is a keeper and I plan on having the Blu-ray in my collection asap.

This movie was awsome. Yes there were some cliche moments but they were good moments. Its definantly a Del Toro movue and that is a good thing. Sleeper hit of the summer.

The monster and robot graphics were so beautifully designed and rendered and the camera moves so skillfully crafted that you really get a great feel for the scale of the characters/creatures. The same elements also give you a real feeling of being IN the movie.
I gave this movie 4 stars for acting and dialogue not because they are weak, but because there simply isn't a lot of it. And the story is a very simple one; nothing complicated or involved here. That said, most of the actors gave solid performances, and Ron Perlman was... well... Ron Perlman. He's only in a few scenes but he absolutely steals the ones he's in. Very entertaining and fun to watch. Great character for him.
This movie is all about the visuals and the action. It is visually stunning and the action starts almost from the first beat of the movie and only provides a few opportunities for you to catch your breath (and get to know the characters) throughout the rest of it.
If you're looking for a couple hours of pure escape from reality, this is the best monster movie to come along in a loooooong time.

This movie was absolutely amazing. It has plenty of action. The dialogue was perfect for a sci-fi action fun summer flick. Loved the character,the jaegers and the kaijus. Beautiful scenery and plenty of robot action. Go see it. Twice. Three times and then buy it on Bluray!
Btw of you're a Del Toro fan then you need to see this movie. His influence is everywhere. His story of how much he wanted to bring this to the big screen is so amazing.

This movie blows them all away. Far more fun and enjoyable than anything else I've seen so far this year (I'm looking at you Man of Steel and Star Trek Into Darkness). I'd go so far as to call it this years "Avengers". Light, breezy, fun and very re-watchable. Can't wait for the Blu-ray. If at all possible, see this movie in IMAX 3D. But wherever you can see it, go see it!
