My daughter and I saw the IMAX 3d version last evening. When the movie was over, she read the critics' reviews on RT. We were absolutely slack jawed at the comments posted by these "professional" critics. This movie is awesome! Who cares if there wasn't more humor? This is a serious take on Superman as he would be perceived by our world. An alien with super powers? Of course he would be feared. And Clark's mixed emotions about his powers as he grew up were right on. This is just the Superman we need in order to bring the DC universe to life in a believable way, instead of the fantasy (and awful) comedy of past Superman movies. Lets move on to the other DC heroes now. As a child I enjoyed both DC AND Marvel comics. I can now look forward to a DC movie world in addition to the mostly excellent Marvel one!

This movie was a near perfect film to me. I wanted to see the regular IMAX version but my date wanted to see it earlier and we ended up seeing the IMAX 3d film. I regret it only because the 3d in this film wasn't as good as some other that i've seen in the past. Such as Ironman 3. IM3 Was a horrible movie, but the 3d was excellent.
Pros awesome fights, many hidden goodies for dc fans
Cons 3d was...disappointing

The story line is ever more realistic as can be, the fight scenes and the destruction of super powered beings fighting, you can only image and its brought to life in this movie, not one dull moment, realistic perspective to a child brought up in the us with the powers, and not being able to use them to crush bullies, imagery was awesome, even the subtle signs to let you know you know you are in DC comic world, with wayne corp logos around, I truly hope that is just teasers of where they want to bring this series, an Awesome calibration of The Dark Knight and The Man of Steel.

The only joy in this movie is when Clark flashes a brief smile when he first learns how to fly. With the epic fight scenes I don't see how there aren't millions of dead people in Metropolis especially since Superman was halfway around the world when the destruction started. I hated the dark, dark colors on the suit and I hated that Superman was forced to kill General Zod. Oh, and the almost complete lack of chemistry between Superman and Lois Lane. If it had been some other superhero I might not have minded so much but this is Superman. He's better than this, or at least he should be.

Every time you respin an often told tale, the expectations are usually all that high. Man of Steel certainly exceeded my expectations. The special effexts were nothing short of amazing. What impressed me the most was the front story and detail of the collapse of Krypton. Strong performances and great photogrpohy combined with the aforementioned effects made this a great version of a well used story.

I personally thought this movie was outstanding. The key is to keep it completely separate from Reeve's movies. It is a different experience and much more serious. There are a lot of emotional parts and the director gets you to really care about the characters. If you go in there with expectations from comics or Reeve, it might taint the experience.

Saw Superman Returns years ago as my first IMAX movie and found the best part of that movie were the ten minutes or so in 3D, so seeing all of the Man of Steel in 3D IMAX was in one word: awesome!
Enjoyed from beginning to end, actors and special effects was beyond great, story played out perfect and I highly, highly recommend seeing Man of Steel in Imax 3D and can't wait for the sequel!

This Superman movie made a little bit more of the back story of Kal-el
than previous movies, which I liked and there's plenty of action. Good

The standout dislike was the camera filter used giving the film a washed out color look. The special effects were very good but the fight scenes dragged a bit too long and the fast camera movements made some scenes confusing.

Much needed update to the original story line. No campy quips which always take you out of the moment and you realize "oh, this is a movie".
New and much better relationship between Clark and Lois Lane. They finally put the old one away and made the relationship more believable.
The problem now with all of the super heroes is who are they protecting us from? Our biggest enemies are ourselves. Corporate greed, extremists,
climate change, and unbelievable stupidity. I'm not sure any one super hero can stop any of that.

This movie is quite simply one of the best origin stories ati have seen. Superman has been lost in movie wasteland for years and they have finally found him. The story changes have added Great depth to the character and have given him the reasons for his path as earths greatest hero. The special effects were amongst the best I have seen. The sound was great, although our IMAX theater cannot quite get the volume right - the voices were a bit too low with this movie and far too high for Iron Man.
Acting was fantastic as was the script. I highly recommend seeing this movie today!

I'll echo other reviewers in that I was not expecting the re-telling of the story of Superman in this way. Not bad, not good. Just different I do like the backstory of the Superman's parents (Jor-El, Lara-El) and how Krypton was destroyed and how the Kryptonians are normal on their planet but on Earth they are more powerful.
Actor playing Man of Steel came off more believable than the previous one (Brandon Routh). And Henry Cavil has a very close resemblance to the actor who played him in the last TV series "Smallville" Tom Welling. So was pleased at that.
Not pleased at the long drawn out battles, I didn't like that Superman's identity was revealed to Lois right away. General Zod was good but not like the original. Some references to Lex Luthor (watch in one of the fight scenes you'll see a oil gas tanker truck being knocked around...it's labeled LexCorp).
Music was good (of course it's Hans Zimmerman) and it did have a feel of the 1st Batman directed by Christoper Nolan who also produced this movie. I'll give it an okay grade of "B". I am expecting more from the next one.
As for any "cut scene" after the credits...don't waste your time (unless you like watching the credis). Only Marvel comics does that for its movies not DC Comics (Batman, Superman). No secret scene at the end.
Was disappointed in not hearing that theme of Supes but it's a new direction. Russell Crowe as Jor-El was believable, so was Kevin Costner as his earth dad. Laurence Fishburne as Perry White? Meh. And Amy Adams as Lois Lane was ok.
Overall great in IMAX, but nothing in 3D jumped out to warranted but you have no choice. IMAX-3D or nothing.
Pros great actors, great visual effects
Cons long drawn out battle scenes, plot holes in story

I came into this movie with great expectations, so maybe I am being too critical. If your looking for awesome special effects, long drawn out fight and battle scenes and new take on the Superman story that this is the movie for you. However if your thinking this is going to be a fresh look at the traditional story of Superman with great dialogue, then no.
Overall this movie was entertaining, especially in IMAX 3D! Loved the experience!

Great 21st century adaptation to the old story of Superman. I was a Superman comics kid. I really like the development of Superman's back story. I thought his learning to fly was very humorous and believable. Russel Crowe and Kevin Kostner both did excellent jobs as his two dads.
The story was believable, too, not the hoaky ones of previous Superman movie series. I like the fact that Lois Lane knows who he is before he starts work at the Daily Planet. I hope this is the beginning of the best Superman movie series ever.

Low story rating was because of the holes. Some things just didn't ring true enough or weren't resolved. With that said, was probably the best Superman ever for me. The special effects were stellar and very realistic. Which leads to the rough part--was so realistic at the end you felt you were there on the screen or in New York on 9/11. That was most troubling that it really made you feel what the people outside the World Trade Center must have experienced on 9/11. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but it left me a little unnerved.

It was an alright movie. If it was done by different writers it would have been better. There were too many plot holes and just so happen moments. The action scenes were good and went on for way too long. The same writers messed up Batman something awful and it looks like they turned their sites on Superman. Not once was there any iconic superman moments or even the damn song. It was at least in Superman Returns cause everyone knows it has to be there. I wouldn't pay to go see it in 3D especially Imax. The story isn't that great cause they care more about action than showing the depths of the characters and following characters that no one cares about. I was just left wanting an actual superman movie
