While it is not DC Comics redemption in the movie industry it is a damn fine movie! While I didn't like the ending, and feel a much better solution was readily and easily available to Superman, the movie overall was good. I will be buying the Blu-Ray. If you are saying to yourself I'm not willing to take another chance on another Superman movie and I will just wait for the DVD, please do not wait, go see this movie today!!

It was two and half hours of ridiculous nonsense that made me profoundly disappointed. After watching trailers for upcoming movies and then this, it became clear that movies in general are being dumbed down. This one today is Exhibit A.
The story line bore little to do with the Superman legend except for the "S" on his shirt, which we are told, is not an "S" but a symbol from Krypton. It was two hours of computer-generated space-ship crashes and building collapses. The other half hour was a putrid combination of Star Wars, It Came from Outer Space, Field of Dreams (complete with Kevin Costner watching his "kid" in a corn field), and Bewitched ("You're not like other children, but you have to keep it a secret."). Several fight scenes offensively resembled the horrific scenes from 9-11, complete with a skyscraper collapse after a vehicle crashed into it followed by petrified pedestrians running away from a cloud of dust.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

First, I have to start this review by saying that I have been a huge Superman fan since I was 2 years old, so I am fairly critical when it comes to whether or not he is being portrayed well. I am only 33, but when I was 2, I loved the movies so much that I actually believed that I could fly...to the detriment of my two front teeth...
Anyhow, now for the review...
I went into this movie with extremely high expectations...and it did not disappoint!
I was looking for this film to offer a fresh take on the Superman mythos and origin for America's greatest and most well-known Super Hero Archetype. That is just what was delivered. I thouroghly appreciated the extra time and effort that was spent on Krypton displaying the vast differences between the culture of that planet and the culture that Kal-El would ultimately be raised in. This allowed for a better understanding of Clark's struggles to overcome nature vs. nurture so that he could decide to become the man that he does.
The begining of the film was laced with a lot of flashbacks, which, were at times difficult to follow. But I think that they were effective in showcasing Clark's transition from boy, to teenager, to adolecent and eventually a grown man.
The film has its share of goofy lines..but nowhere to the extent that its previous installments have had. It was wonderfully cast as well. I know that most people would say that Christopher Reeve WAS Superman; however, I think that Henry Cavill was able to bring something out of the character that Reeve never would have ben able to do...the semi-tortured psyche that one would imagine would be possessed by a being with so much power and yet a desire to just be normal, but possessing the knowlege that if he can do something, but doesn't, it somehow places a bit of responsibility on his shoulders. All the while understanding that he can't be everwhere and save everyone. Cavill has an edgyness that I do not believe has been possessed by any of his predecessors and I look forward to seeing what he is able to do with it.
The cinematography and score for the film is breathtaking! Although the film had to have tons of CGI work in it, that work was done unbelievably well.
I think that the future of this francise is in great hands with Zach Snyder, Christopher Nolan and Hans Zimmer.

I'm not a comic book hero fan but bought tickets for my partner and I to watch Man of Steel at IMAX! He is a lifelong fan and is at the age of 61. I don't regret going! It was the best movie I'd ever seen. I'll be taking my grandson to see it before it leaves the theater! He'll love the entire experience ! Excellent Story-thank you for showing how Superman originated--I didn't know! It helped me to follow the story and I loved it! Excellent sound and special effects! WOW 3D IMAX. Great choice of a movie to show us in IMAX

i enjoyed the movie especially in the Imax..I do not believe the movie needed to be in 3D..Fast paced fight scenes and 3D just don't mesh well..Other than that, it was a fantastic movie..Can't wait for the next, hoepfuly, Imax but not 3D :-)
