synopsis.. guy who can't be killed takes an an entire army that attacks the white house.. and he wins and walks away with the president.
The special effects are awesome.. the story is abit over the top..
Could this ever happen as posed in the movie .. nope never If you pay attention closely alot of the things in the movie are crazy fake .. like the secret service agent that was moved to a different area having all the passwords and access to the white house a year after he moved out, secret tunnels under the white house, they claim the entire white house take over took 13 minutes .. well I'll stop there

More disturbing than entertaining. Why does Hollywood keep thinking that making a movie with lots of graphic "shot in the head" scenes will make us say "Wow, that was cool". Perhaps the disturbed members of the human race that actually go out and do this stuff against children and innocent people will enjoy this mindless bloodbath. But true movie fans will see this as only a violent Die Hard ripoff that portrays our military and the security around the White House as incompetent. (And horrible shots) At least Die Hard doesn't pretend to be anything more than an action fantasy. People were actually walking out of the theater during the first 45 minutes of this lousy so called action flick. Don't waste your money.

From the beginning of this movie, you are on the edge of your seat. Really a great film and very fast paced and exciting. I just returned from DC last week, so the imagery was even more meaningful to me. Acting is excellent. You'll enjoy this film.

Wasn't sure exactly what to expect going into the movie, but I absolutely LOVED this movie. It was extremely action packed and left both my husband and myself wondering when the last time we blinked or took a breath was. Some of the dialogue was funny which made the intense moments better. Overall a great movie.

This movie was great from beginning to end. It is definitely in teh Die Hard Genre and succeeds in meeting those expectations. Roger Ebert gave this movie two stars, well screw him, he can go back and watch the English Patient or the Pianist. I enjoyed all of the characters and the plot. It was a fresh and current plot. The action was great, but not too unbelievable on the action. I do wish they showed the push back on the North Koreans at the end. There was no sex in this movie, but you can't have everything! I thoroughly loved this movie and hope their is more of Mike Banyan.

Action packed, escapist fare with a good performances all around. If you can suspend disbelief about the attack, it's a thrilling tale of dedication to one's job and the redemption of a hero after having fallen from grace.
Though the critics have given it mixed reviews, the audiences are liking it and for once I think some of the critiques are overly harsh. Gerard Butler has shown he can "kick ass" with the best of them and if you don't try to compare it with the "original" Die Hard (which none of the Die Hard sequels have ever lived up to), you will enjoy it.
Director Antoine Fuqua (with his tongue planted firmly in cheek) has done a good job of giving the audiences an E Ticket ride...so be sure to watch the movie with a big bag of popcorn and enjoy the experience.

The movie was good except the fact that everyone beside Gerard Butler looks like and acts like a total moron, they cannot seem to do anything right and they are totally inept at anything that is set for them to do. I know artistic license and all but a lot of the military scenes are way off. Great action though.

At the writing of this review I am undecided as to whether I like "Olympus Has Fallen" or not. There are a few good elements about the movie, but there are also an equal number of bad elements about the movie and that's what makes it difficult. The Cast is HUGH and are all excellent actors.
On a nice July day the unthinkable happens, an extreme terrorist and his army invade the air space around the White House. The army is well armed and knows all of our secret weapons and how they operate. President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) and most of his key staff are taken hostage in the White House bunker.
Fortunately for President Asher, one of his former security officers Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) happens to arrive and is able to get inside the White House undetected before everything is shut down.
Banning needs to locate the President's young son and rescue the President before the extremists unleash their intended plan on the US. The story unfolds from there...
Think "Die Hard" at the White House. This is what "Olympus Has Fallen" will remind you of. Security Officer Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is John McCain (Bruce Willis).
The difference is "Die Hard" was more interesting while "Olympus Has Fallen" has a bigger cast. The plot is mildly interesting. There is some cool artillery that is used. The movie is very bloody and in your face violent. A bright spot is that Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Gerard Butler are excellent.
But, with all of that being said, this has been done before. Only the venue is different. It's really sad that you have a ton of great actors/actresses and the movie is borderline mediocre. I found my self checking my watch on a couple of different occasions during the movie. If I do that, it's not a good sign.

For an action film Olympus earns its stripes...yes, you must suspend your disbelief now and again, after all its an action film, yet one worthy of the genre. Gerard Butler really hits the mark as Manning, much better suited to hard hitting action rather than sappy romance/comedy. I think Melissa Leo as Sec of Def had more balls than the whole cast...but that's just me :P. Definitely a must see if you appreciate the genre. If you go in expecting anything other than what it is, save your money and watch Twilight...now that's where one must suspend more than just disbelief...LOL!

I enjoyed this movie. The acting was fine. The story was good. I did kind of find the dialogue a little annoying sometimes, but it wasn't grotesque. The villain kind of annoyed me which probably not good thing, or maybe it was just my dislike for him surfacing, I don't know. A good action patriotic movie of uplifting love for your own country. Special effects were...whatever....it doesn't matter what they were like. The action good and the enjoyable part of the movie and it was brutal occasionally. Overall you have to look at this movie as an enjoyable action ride that has a satisfying ending and not as an amazing spectacular movie classic, because it's not, obviously. But it is a good get away and a good March movie and has foreshadowed the summer blockbusters of this year, which I am looking forward to.

Action packed, patriotic thriller. perhaps a bit over the top with a hero beyond a super hero. Nonetheless, keeps your attention and you walk out of the theater with a smile on your face. Director Fuqua even stated that there is nothing wrong with "waving the flag a bit" in a movie.

More like 4.5 stars. Fairly mindless action flick - not that there's anything wrong with that. Not Battleship mindless, but still.. not challenging. GREAT action sequences and fight scenes, very well paced. Suspension of disbelief is a must to enjoy it.
Gerard Butler is just SO much better suited to action films than his pathetic attempts at romantic comedy. He wasn't quite as good in this as he was in Law Abiding Citizen, but it was close.

This is the best movie of the year, hands down.
I expected good but this was a darn good movie.
Didn't read the ratings before and glad I didn't.
The White House should use this movie to their advantage.

Best action movie I have seen in a while. It is a must see movie. Gerard Butler was spectacular. It was a action packed movie from the begining . I cant wait to own this movie.

My wife, daughter and I were fortunate enough to see this movie on an early screening. It was a fantastic movie. A modern-day 300. Though some of the national security portions of the story were unrealistic, it was a very good story. If this were to happen in real life, we would need a King Leonidas to step in and save us all. Gerard Butler has a talent of executing a sarcastic intense fury that not a lot of actors can pull off. He definitely was the man for the job. Though it is safe to say he will not win an Oscar for this performance, Mike Banning was a very entertaining character. If you want to see an intense, warfare hardened, over the top suspense packed patriotic movie this is the one for you.
