I am a huge Madoka Magica fan, and when I heard it was being remade into a movie, I was so excited!
The effects and redrawn scenes were total eye candy, and I couldn't help but admire how vivid the colors were during the anime. They also added new transformation scenes for the girls, and they were fun to watch as well.
If you're a big fan of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, you'll enjoy the small edits here and there that were made to this movie. First-time viewers will be captivated as well! 10/10 phenomenal series.
Pros great story
Yes, I recommend this movie.

To those unfamiliar to the Magica series, there's a large difference between how it looks and how it is. Appearance wise, it looks like a very cute, happy story, however it has a much more darker and violent story, especially with most of the characters ending up dead.
The whole movie is basically a recap of the anime for the Madoka series except with bits and parts cut out to fit into the 4 hour time slot (2 hours each part). Most of the parts cut out didn't harm the movie but there were a few parts I felt would've been helpful to have, such as Kyubey telling Sayaka how Madoka would've been the greatest Magical Girl. Overall however, it felt like they did a good job taking the essential pieces and remaking them.
The sound quality and animation are good as expected, although I did notice a few strange things here and there (maybe it was just me, but I did notice some weird color under a character's eye at one point).
My main issue was with the protagonist, Madoka, as throughout the movie, she puts herself in harm's way despite being generally useless other than emotional support. It's to be expected for this to happen but I personally feel that a lower significance on her would've helped, or at least have Aniplex not cut out some fatally important parts to at least make her seem more important.
This is unrelated to the movie but I would've been more satisfied if LA shared some of it's merchandise with those in NY.
Overall, Madoka is a great movie. There were a few parts here and there that bothered me but that shouldn't discourage viewers. My main advice to those who will watch it is to ensure that younger viewers are mature enough to understand how dark the setting is after you get past the first 30-45 minutes. Despite the cute artwork, great story and superb voice acting, this movie is not for everybody, especially if you don't like watching young girls wallow in despair.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.
