One thing about Tom Cruise: if, as a movie-goer, you can look past the fact that he's turned into a Scientology loony, there's really no denying the fact that, IMHO, he's made many more great movies than flops. The guy's always been an underrated actor, from the moment I first saw his supporting role in TAPS up until this, his newest release. I would agree with anyone who says that if you liked MINORITY REPORT, the chances are good that you'll like this film. And for me, it's always a real treat when a sci-fi film actually tells a deep, meaningful story, and the special effects & action sequences take a back seat, serving only to enhance the telling of said story.
Everything about this film appealed to me greatly, and I can find no fault with it. As others have mentioned, it falls into the category of keeps-you-guessing-until-the-end, which always adds a strong element of thrill to witnessing the unfolding of plot. When great acting, a good script, a good cast & good direction are added to that, you inevitably have a sci-fi film that steps outside the box and gives audiences credit for their intelligence, leaving them with a feeling of awe & wonder upon leaving the movie theater. I recommend OBLIVION unconditionally for all who love unique, sophisticated & thought-provoking science fiction.

When a 2 hour movie seems like it's actually 2 hours, something is wrong. Initially the characters seem to be developing into interesting people, but then it just puttered out. Morgan Freeman's character really could have been played by anyone, it's the worst usage of Morgan Freeman in a movie that I can remember since Chain Reaction. And the "surprise" bad guy was just an overused plot convenience, not a "gotcha!".

This was such a great movie! As soon as you thought you had something figured out, some new piece of information would come along that blew that theory out of the water. Really made me think and was very enjoyable to watch.

The bulk of the movie is about this guy who does his job while thinking about his retirement. Then all the sudden Morgan Freeman comes along, gives the twist, and rush to a lack luster ending.

The visual and sound effects in this movie are second to none. This movie is best seen in IMAX. When Tom Cruise starts up that bubble jet, you feel like you're sitting in it too. Yes, the story is a bit slower paced, but I liked that. It allows just an extra beat to let the circumstances sink in while drinking in the amazing visuals. Plus, Morgan Freeman.

There is a reason this was released in April, instead of May. It represents and early summer escape prior to the onslaught of superhero (Iron Man, Man of Steel, et al) and science fiction (Star Trek, After Earth et al) fare. It has a nice story, good special effects, and nice art direction but sometimes struggles with its pacing (it comes in at over 2 hours). I would recommend it for a Saturday afternoon escape - before the meat of the summer movie season starts in 2 weeks.

This was an incredible film going experience and reminded me of why I love going to the movies. Yes it does share some elements with other sci-fi films but weaves them in such an original way that it makes it a classic sci-fi film in its own right. The production design is impeccable and this was BY FAR the best use of the IMAX format that I have seen yet. It literally filled the entire frame and was ridiculously immersive.
Also, I gotta say, I was really impressed with Cruise's screen presence. I don't know if anyone else could have pulled off this role as "effectively."
All in all, this is the epitome of the kind of film you need to see on the big screen and it is also one that will kick in your head for while since the overall concept is pretty awesome. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My friends and I were thrilled to find out that our local theater was showing Oblivion early on Thursday evening before it came out on Friday.
From the beginning the movie caught my attention as the landscape was amazing! They did an outstanding job taking full effect of this being shown in an Imax environment.
There are several twists int he story and you will never see it coming. But I thought the story, acting everything was very well done.
Worth going to see it, and Imax if you are able!
