There are a dozen directions one can take with Lincoln, his story is so rich. This story is perfect for telling especially now; the message is as strong now as it was 140+ years ago. Day-Lewis IS A. Lincoln; Oscar for sure! See this movie, you won't regret it!!

This was a truly outstanding movie. The story line, acting, pacing and tension was great. One of the best movies I've see in a long time and it resonates with the times today. If Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field aren't nominated for Academy awards they should do away with the Academy. When the movie ended, the packed audience sat in respectful silence for about 30 seconds then broke out into applause. You don't see that often.

This is a modern masterpiece. It truly captures the spirit of the time. The acting was superb, as was the script. The attention to authentic detail was astounding. After the film, I went out to dinner with friends in celebration of my birthday. Knowing that I am a Civil War buff, one gift I received was a wonderful collection of Brady Civil War photographs. We looked through the book and marveled at how closely the characters in the movie resembled the people they portrayed.

Great movie. We currently have a polarized congress, as we did during the 1860's. The difference is our congress is beyond compromise; the House of Reps in the 1860's was willing to 'rumble' and 'mix.'
Creating the law is not pretty. We saw arm-twisting, name calling, bribery, threats, tears and the persuasion of conviction push through the 13th Amendment. Wish we'd see it in our current congress: it's needed to move us off the shoal we're stuck on!
This movie is motivating and informs us that all governments are horrid, but that the U.S.A. government is the 'Best of the Worst!' Pray for your representatives and your senators!

This movie lacked heart. If you believe the characters in this movie, they are all basically corrupt. Everybody is screaming God Damnit!! The whole movie was irritating and I almost walked out. Glad I didn't waste any money on popcorn or candy. Wasting the money on the ticket was enough.

Good movie if you want a history lesson about the 13th Amendment but it went on WAAAAY too long. Lots of foul language and taking God's name in vain, just not needed to get the message and story across. Save the $10+ concessions and read about it on the internet.

I usually go into a movie with low expectations so I won't be disappointed. However, I was so looking forward to seeing this picture, my expectations were very high. Well, it was actually better than I was hoping for!! Simply put, if Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't win an Oscar for best actor it will be a travesty. He is beyond brilliant. Moreover, the acting was superb by all, not just Daniel. I implore you, go see this movie!!

There have been few films during my lifetime (I am 61 and an avid moviegoer) I so looked forward to that so completely exceeded my expectations.
Daniel Day-Lewis absolutely inhabits his role and allows an historical figure so many of us wish we could have known to come alive in a way I assumed was impossible. Films about our heroes, especially when they are larger than life, are infamous for falling short. Even the few great ones, such as Gandhi, fail to create a cinematic tension powerful enough to keep us on the edge of our seats when we already know the ending. This film does so with an ease and naturalness that is hard to believe. Nothing is contrived or exaggerated. There is no need. The character of Lincoln has simply been awaiting the collaboration of an actor and director each gifted enough to allow Lincoln's power to finally achieve a true cinematic spark of life.
This is also a film of fundamental importance. Most Americans are unaware of the almost violent battle waged over passage of the 13th Amendment and how absolutely vital achieving that victory was to our nation's future. It is not an exaggeration to say that battle is the great untold story of The Civil War.
See this movie for yourself. Pay attention to it for the sake of your patriotism. Give the gift of it to your children if they are old enough to understand.

The movie Lincoln did an excellent job of showing the Presidents inner conflict. It showed a man tormented by the timing required in his decisions between ending a horrific war and ending an even more horrific injustice of mankind.

What an amazing look into a very small window of time that has had such an enormous impact upon our lives and shaped American History. Currently America and the world have little understanding of the impact of slavery and the battle of the states, and how it was destroying the Unites States. Citizens killing citizens over commerce and tradition. Classism, racism and bigotry were deeply rooted in our nation and there were those who desired change and those who were fought fiercely to maintain it.
This film takes a detailed look at the vision, the journey and the men who made the commitment to ending slavery in the US forever.
The cast is amazing. There are so many stellar performances that the Oscar and Golden Globe nominations should be record setting. Be prepared… the story id detailed and moves slowly. It is intentional to make you more vested in the experience.
Relax and enjoy all the details, the magnificent performances and humor!

To me, watching LINCOLN was like traveling back in time and experiencing an encounter with a visually authentic Abraham Lincoln.
The persona portrayed couldn't have been more of what I would of expected from the representation of many biographies and studies of his life.
The movie found a way to show every side of his personality in the midst of an important moment in US history.
In addition, the movie dramatizes his relationship with his beloved son, and his outspoken wife, both of whom have dealt with personal tragedies intertwined with the times of the day.
Mr. Lincoln's political skills are often overlooked beneath the headlines of his legacy, but this portrayal leaves no doubt as to his superior ability to achieve what he wanted, even when his chances seemed impossible.

If you don't like political language, old english - you'll find this hard to follow but that aside - excellent! I learned a lot about the 13th Amendment . Daniel Day Lewis is really incredible! He is as Lincoln as you can imagine Lincoln to be. A very believable performance that doesn't seem at all like a performance. Sally Field did a wonderful job as Mary Todd. Her strain seemed very real and knowing Sally's bright personality, she really played Mary Todd well. You understood Mary Todd and the limits of the day. All the acting was excellent, sets excellent down to the lace curtains! All the lesser known actors were fantastic. My only complaint was that Tommy Lee Jones seemed like he was playing Tommy Lee Jones and his make up around the eyes didn't seem real. The war scenes were realistic and sad.

I was lucky enough to be given an excellent education in American History while in high school. This has grown into a passion that I have tried to share with my my kids when they were in school; unfortunately I am not as gifted as an educator, However, my 32 year old daughter came with me to see this film and she enjoyed it very much.
This film reminded me why I enjoyed American History so much. Normal people succeeding in extraordinary times. GO SEE THIS MOVIE

I highly recommend this movie for all families to watch, the storyline at times might be too sophisticated for younger viewers, but this was an important part of history that all Americans should know. The acting was excellent and Daniel Day Lewis's portrayel of Lincoln made me feel that I was actually seeing Lincoln coming back to life. The Republican Party should feel very proud of such a great moment in our history.

I really enjoyed this movie. A little slow towards the beginning but it picked up after that. Great acting, especially by Daniel Day Lewis. He embodied Lincoln in every way. I was never a history buff but this movie made it come to life. Oscars to be sure, are forthcoming.
Everyone should see this movie.

Hubby and I rarely go to movies. "Lincoln" was an 'exception'. And, pleasantly, "Lincon" was also an 'exceptional' movie. Even though the historical outcome of the movie is well known... one felt transported back to the time and place of this historic moment in American history.
Superb acting by all... fabulous cast. Daniel Day-Lewis might just have 'channelled' Mr. Lincoln, as his portrayal was so very beliveable. The anguish and caring and compassion of the man came through beautifully.
Have not watched the Academy Awards show in many years since we don't go to the movies much. However, this movie is Oscar worthy in many categories.
Well worth seeing and hubby and I are so glad we did!

Really felt transported back to 1860's. Daniel Day Lewis works his magic again as President Lincoln. I predict he will add another Oscar to his collection, an enthralling performance! Disappointed that the movie storyline was so very narrowly focused (small regard for big events on the battlefield that were shaping the political discussion). Williams' musical score was, of course, outstanding. Spielberg's mastery of the camera and the art of filmmaking burns bright as ever.

While hanging on every word, often with tears in my eyes, I need to see this movie again to concentrate and understand all the other true life characters. I highly recommend Lincoln!
