If DDL does not win Best Actor there should be an investigation. I can't ever recall an actor capturing a historical person so completely. Where Hal Holbrook is always Hal Holbrook just in a diffrent setting, you never felt you were watching anyone but A. Lincoln.

I loved the movie, but I can see that it wouldn’t be for everyone. It’s very political, with anachronistic language and not a lot of action. But I was fascinated, deeply engaged and totally enthralled. Nominations indeed for Day-Lewis, Sally, Tommy, and especially James Spader who stole every scene he was in.

Daniel Day-Lewis was outstanding in this Lincoln role in every aspect. I didn't realize the focus would be primarily on the amendment passage but that had a huge impact on our history so I can see why that was the focus. Amazing history lesson about a time that was so very different from the current times, and yet so similar in other ways.

I was quite disappointed with this film. It mostly portrayed Lincoln regarding his passing of the 13th Amendment. It did not capture his life during his Presidency. I would have liked to have seen a mixture of his life before and during his Presidency, along with political highlights.
The movie was difficult to follow in some parts. The language was period appropriate, but difficult to follow. The plot was very redundant.
I did like the costumes and the makeup was very realistic.
Overall, I did not care for the movie. I would not recommend it too a friend.

The portrayals of the historic figures by the actors was exceptional and the story line was better than I had expected or hoped for. As a history buff with a specific interest in the Civil War, I found the movie to be very informative about the process in which Lincoln achieved the passage of the 13th Amendment. Unlike any other movie about Lincoln which has been made to date. I would recommend it to anyone interested in that period of history or the U.S. Constitution with just one reservation; I don't recommend taking your kids. I took my 11 year old son and he said it was boring, but "not as bad as I thought it would be."

This was a brilliant movie. Tommy Lee Jones was fabulous,Loved how this screenplay added interest and humor to this authentic portrayal of politics during one of historys' most important hurdles. What a character study! Educational too. Excellent acting. Daniel Day-Lewis definitely deserves an Oscar. My ONLY disappointment? Very FEW African-Americans in attendance. This is a movie that ALL Americans need to see for a LOT of reasons. Lincoln went through hell while he was President.

Yes there is a differnce and Lincoln was a very religious person at the end of his life. Hollywood being it's usual self.
Worth the watch but don't check your brain at the door. Everyone tries to make historical figures relevant to our times. Not the case BTW as Lincoln was made for his time!.

I'm a history buff and thought the movie was excellent. Another Spielberg success. But even my wife who is not into history enjoyed it. My 14 year old daughter now wants a return visit to DC to see all the sights.
If you're like me and save expensive trips to the movie for big 'mega pictures,' then Lincoln is definitely 'movie worthy.'
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, gave a great overall feeling of 1865 america.

This 2 1/2 hour movie did not seem like 2 1/2 hours because of the outstanding acting of Daniel Day-lewis, Sally Fields, and the entire cast. The familiar faces of TV and film in this movie were not distracting to me at all (like some reviewers have said) because the acting was superb! The diaglogue was long at times, but written very well and the humor included added to the realism. I found the story to be not only entertaining but educational as well. I highly recommend this movie to those who enjoy American history, excellent acting, and strong dialogue. If you are not into American history or movies with a lot of talking, then this isn't for you.

this movie was stunning visually - the recreation of the era was unbelievable, from the architecture, rugs and furniture, to the lamps and costumes, down to each cobweb and speck of dust. the performances were excellent from each character, but of course kudos must go to ddl, sally field and tlj, who were all remarkable in their respective performances. the portrayal of politics of the time was all engrossing at first, and incredibly interesting. then there's the story. ahh, the story. the passage of the 13th amendment, the end of the us civil war, and the assassination of lincoln. it pulls you in at the beginning, watching the behind the scenes workings to assure passage of this most important amendment, but then, somewhere, it fails, and it fails spectacularly. it just seems like business as usual, just like today's political system. sure, it's good to know nothing's changed - but, then again, nothing's changed, and i go to the movies to take a break from all of the nonsense, not shell out big bucks to watch more of the same at the movies. glad i saw it, enjoyed every minute, but wish i had waited for rental, streaming, or movie channels.

This was an amazing movie. The writing was superb and the acting stellar. As a die hard Daniel Day Lewis fan, I was still blown away by his ability to inhabit the character. I felt like that was really Abraham Lincoln on the screen. Tommy Lee Jones was fantastic and made us see the hippocrasy of the House of Representatives and gave us a view into the hidden aspects of lives of our public officials. Sally Field was powerful in her role and gave insight into the emotional struggles of a wife and mother as well as the influence of the woman behind the man. I feel grateful to Spielberg and Kushner for producing this masterpiece and for pursuing the casting decision with Day Lewis who has given us the gift of this performance.

This movie was dynamic. You felt like you met all the leaders of the Country from that day. It was not so different then as it is today in our congress if the movie is based on facts. They mis-titled it however. It should have been titled "The Thirteenth Amendment". If you love history, you will love this movie. Thank you Steven Spielberg, again...
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

Everything was great but I thought the movie should have stopped after the passage of the 13th Amendment. There was no need to remind everyone he was shot a few months later.

Daniel Day-Lewis portrayed Lincoln so well you could almost feel you had met the man. Movie was a little long and slow in a few spots. Really good character development showed the man Lincoln was, both politically and personally.

Lincoln isn't an action-packed film, but it is nonetheless a gripping political story. It's uncanny how the maneuvering and struggles in 19th century America still resonate with a modern audience. Our politicians could learn from Lincoln's cabinet!

Being a Lincoln enthusiast myself, the movie lived up to my high expectations. The time period portrayed and actors selected for their role fit perfectly! Best historical movie I have seen in a while... thank you Steven Spielberg.

Great acting and dialogue. Daniel Day Lewis had me believing he was really Lincoln. The rest of the cast did a superb job as well. Best movie I've seen since The King's Speech.

My wife and I enjoyed the movie immensely but noted that it has greater appeal for thoughtful, history-loving "baby-boomers". We saw a conspicuous lack of younger people in the audience since their preferences typically lean towards films with more action and special effects.
The acting was superb, especially the work by DD-L and Tommy Lee Jones.

Lewis was wonderful, so was Field & Strathairn, but the movie was nearly stolen by Jones and Spader.
You never notice the direction unless it's bad, but Spielberg is as good as it gets.
