This was a very moving movie which generated applause from the audience. I recommend it to our current President as a primer on true leadership. Leadership during a pivotal point in American history which ultimately held the Union together. Not divisiveness but, working for the good of all. An excellent movie providing lessons for our current government.

This film is completely absorbing. It transports you to a time that is both very different from ours but also has many similarities. Every American should see it because it tells the story of the test our democracy underwent during the Civil War and how we survived it in spite of almost unbearable hardship and sacrifice. It also shows us that the legislative process has never been pretty even when Congress was dealing with monumental issues like slavery. We get a glimpse of what a great leader LIncoln was--how he used his homespun and modest bearing, his great intellect and learning, and his soaring oratory, to set a course and get others to follow it. He pursued what was right in spite of immense difficulties.

Daniel Day-Lewis was awesome as the "President of the United States, clothed in immense power!" His portrayal gives us an inside look at what the 16th president was like as a man, a husband, father and a leader.
Sally Field was very convincing in her role as Mary "Molly" Todd Lincoln.
But the stand out was Tommy Lee Jones; his stand out humor and sarcastic wit brought levity to the film while at the same time allowed us to understand the seriousness of issues of the times.
All in all, this movie has the makings of numerous Oscar nominations...or at least it should in my opinion

Is there a greater living actor than Daniel Day-Lewis!?! And, in "Lincoln", he's admirably complemented by a marvelous supporting cast! It's like being on hand, and intimately privy to, one of the greatest moments in our history. Wow! Just, wow!!

Excellent story, Excellent acting. It was a great History lesson on how a president can take a tough stand, especially shortly after his re-election. President Obama has that power now to stand up for the voters and protect the middle class, the elderly, and college students.

Lincoln was an extraordinary movie & did not disappoint in any way! Every actor was perfectly cast & came through with shining colors - including Daniel Day-Lewis who BECAME Lincoln; Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, Jackie Earle Haley. The cinematography was incredible. The sounds of Abraham Lincoln's actual watch, carriage & others were recorded for inclusion in the film. Day-Lewis brought to life Lincoln as a President, devoted husband, loving father (including his mourning over the loss of his son Willie), humorous storyteller, lawyer & warrior of the cause to abolish slavery. I will watch this movie numerous times & will purchase it when it comes to DVD. Bravo Spielberg!!!!!!

It is a very good movie, everyone needs to see this movie. Sally Field playing Mary Lincoln was an interesting choice, she did a wonderful job. The actor who played Lincoln, also did a wonderful job, the shots of him are pictures that you see of Lincoln were right on the money. Especially, the one where he has his son on his lap and they are staring out the window of a bedroom.

This movie is sel-explanatory if you are familiar with Lincoln, but I am most impressed with the acting. There is not much else I can tell you about this movie. If you are interested in it, you already know the story. The only thing that should have changed was more scenes of the actual war because that would show the significance of this period of time. Still a fantastic movie! If Daniel Day-Lewis does not get best actor, I will be shocked!

Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln was outstanding! Unbelievable how stirring the entire show was and what good timing since our recent presidential elections. It reminds us of why we should be so proud today even with all the political upheaval we still stand strong. This movie gives us a look at how hard they all worked to keep together America as one country under God. How difficult it was then and now but what courage Lincoln, his wife, and the senators all had back then.This should be a must see especially for school kids of all ages.
Tommy Lee as always was cast a great part and he was perfect in it. All the actors and actresses are outstanding!

The movie was tedious. I had the feeling that the actors were acting. I was not drawn into the film. The opening five minutes totally lacked credibility and cast a pall on the movie. It was frequently too " Hollywood". I had the impression that Spielberg was attempting to deliver a liberal message. I think the Lincoln character was played terribly. Only once in the movie did he exhibit command presemce. I don't believe that Mary Lincoln was present in congress throughout the debate.

As someone who has been a student of Lincoln's life for over 50 years, I have always wondered why the best Hollywood could do with Mr. Lincoln was "Young Mr. Lincoln," with Henry Fonda. With more books available to research on Lincoln's life (and death) than any other president, this movie was a long time coming.
While I was surprised at the ending (no, I know how Lincoln's life turns out -- it just seemed odd in the way Spielberg chose to do it) the acting was superb, as were costumes and sets. Goodwin's book Team of Rivals was an inspiration for this movie, particularly the interactions between President Lincoln and his cabinet, and it was done well.
Sally Field represented Mary Todd Lincoln as history has largely portrayed her -- a woman with mental problems who made her husband's life largely miserable -- and Tommy Lee Jones' portrayal of Thaddeus Stevens (no one will know who that is except scholars) was great, although Jones looks like a wallet with eyes these days.
Daniel Day Lewis was excellent, although he really didn't look war-weary enough. He should get an Oscar nomination, as will Jones. Fields won't. People who know a lot about Lincoln will like it, and people who know little about Lincoln SHOULD SEE IT.

I thought the movie was a great example of what it was to live in the 1860's. Great movie and acting. Sometimes the dialogue was hard to hear/understand.

Excellent movie-great casting
Would not use Movie Tickets.com again- they sold us seats and then when we got to the theatre, we were given seats that were not nearly as good as the seats we purchased- we were on the side and a railing partially blocked my view. Great movie but bad experience

An excellent film. Very accurate from an historical perspective. The acting was superb. Even though it ran a little long I never felt the film dragging. Every high school American History class should view this film for a great perspective on the end of the Civil War and the portrayal of the working of Congress in the 19th century.

It was interesting to see how Lincoln was portrayed during the last months of his life. He was more introspect and not as outgoing as the younger Lincoln has been portrayed in the past. I enjoyed every minute of the film and didn't get bored with the history.

Lincoln was a very good movie. History and literature buffs will love it. The acting was excellent and the storyline very interesting. I appreciated the 19th Century dialogue. However, it took a little while to get used to the dialogue, and it made the movie somewhat tedious. Spielberg weaves another good story here, but you have to stay alert for it. Lincoln is not a "no-brainer"!

This was an excellent take on a major historical event without getting bogged down in history. It was fast paced, showed Lincoln as a real man and why he was such a good president. At the same time, it showed the politics of the era which turn out not to be that much different from today's. I recommend this movie to everyone....there is some salty language but nothing egregious.

Hesitant at first about what looked like a dry, slow historical drama, I was riveted pretty much from the get-go. The realism of Daniel Day-Lewis' performance was arresting, the camera work exquisite, and Steven Spielberg's directing so subtle, so unintrusive, that it allowed the entire cast to shine with Oscar-worthy performances across the board. It is a talking heads movie, to be certain, but what the heads are saying and how they deliver the dialogue is what makes this film an Oscar-contender for sure.
