I'm not sure what movie the 5-star-raters saw, but it wasn't Safe Haven. 15 minutes in we contemplated leaving, but there was wine so we stayed. Julianne is cute, Josh gives us something to look at, and the location is nice, but the dialogue is awkward and the story has so many levels of awfulness I'm not sure which one to address. Summed up, save your time and money and DON'T bring your men. If you still insist on seeing it, go to a Lux Level that serves booze to help you through the 2 hours of regret.
Cons slow, i laughed when i shouldnt have. a lot.

Love Nicholas Sparks and Josh Duhamel. Have seen all the movies by both. Was so excited to see this movie and found it to be the biggest disappointment ever. There is absolutely NO chemistry between the two main characters. The movie is so slow for the first hour and 15 minutes you wonder if you should just take a nap. The last 1/2 hour is pretty action packed and is about the only "good" part of the movie. The ending was completely ridiculous and I hated it. Julianne Hough is not a good actress. She seems so dull and boring. I never thought I'd say I hated a Nicholas SParks movie...but I am.

My wife Actualy saw this movie not myself personaly so this is her review.
This movie was well worth going to see it had a very good story line. the cinimatography was exelant and the art direction was done very well.
the overall acting was done very well and it flowed nicely and had very few gaps and pauses in the timing of the movie i would recomend it to my friends.

The storyline is solid, highlighting the difficulties of a physical abuse relationship. You will enjoy the dialogue, especially with the kids, as the movie plays out. Although some elements are fairly predictable, and others a bit far fetched (the cop falsely posting the Want Ad) the movie will provide you with a feel good feeling as you exit the theatre.

I'm not sure how this compares to the book, but I loved the movie. I liked the twist at the end, which made it not as predictable as I thought it would be. My husband had compared this to Sleeping with the Enemy prior to watching this movie and it turned out to be more.
Julianne Hough was great in this movie. Glad to see her placed in a more dramatic role to show that she can do more than just act in singing and dancing movies.
