The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie of all time, and I was not expecting "Oz The Great and Powerful" to be as good as it was. I loved everything about it and will add it to my home DVD library as soon as it is available.

This is the story of how Oscar, a carnival magician, becomes the Wizard of Oz. I liked the movie alot. It had great acting and a good story.It gave a great feel of the original Oz. The only thing I didn't like was the way the Wicked witch of the West's face looked. The effects were a little bad on her face. I would have preferred makeup instead of makeup and effects combo. I mean it wasn't necessary in the original film. Aside from that a great film. A 9/10. Checkout Big Guy Movie reviews on Facebook and twitter .

This was a good prequel to the original. Loved the story. It lets you see how the great Oz got to Oz. Didn't have no musical numbers like the original could of been better if they added this, but still a great movie.

I loved this movie. I feel like it was very well executed. The beginning starts a bit slow, but after the first 20 minutes are past, the rest is amazing. The story is great, the action is awesome. The actors did a great job. I laughed, cried, got anxious, happy - it was very well-rounded and I want to see it again. I will definitely buy this one.

It's surprising how varied the reviews for this are.
It's a prequel based on the Baum books, NOT necessarily the 1939 film.
If you go in with that idea you may enjoy it overall.
We all did, my friend knows the books really well and thought it overall well done.

I don't like to read movie reviews before I go see the movie because me and the reviewers don't always agree...y'know? But I heard one on the radio (NPR) and couldn't resist clicking through to another online. It seemed the general opinion of the movie was "meh."
Fortunately, I wanted to see a movie and it seemed like my best bet for the weekend. Also, I'd heard that on it's opening day it had already grossed $20M and was expected to make money so off I went.
I won't bore you with the artistic details. I'll just say I liked it. There was a smattering of applause at the end, and I've never heard so many positive comments walking out of a theater including "I didn't think I'd like it...but I did!!"
(The 3-D effects were pretty good too!)

I really enjoyed the special effects and the 3d. Although, some areas the 3d could of been worked a little more, birds or flowers were blurry and not in focus. I loved the development of the wicked witch. The movie kept me entertained and interested the whole time.

I thought this movie was very entertaining. I loved the black and white part of the story in the beginning and then the sudden burst into the color portion. The story kept in line with the original movie so you could see how the stories would later blend together. But this story stands on it's own, too, and has a lot of originality! I loved the monkey bellhop! My warning is that this movie is not for young children! There are many really scary parts that will frighten small children long after the movie ends and if you see it in 3D some of the scary things are right in your face! All in all I was very entertained. I also thought that Mr. Franco did a good job as the Wizard, contrary to some critics. I'm glad that I got to see this film. I'm a big kid and I love this stuff!

Cons some slow parts, too scary for young kids!, bad witch acting was mediocre, a lot of the dialog was inaudible!, torture of the good witch!

I'm 44 and I thought Mr. raime did a fantastic job, re-connecting with the childhood boy in me (who use to count the days till the wizard of oz would come on again) and jarring my emotional template making me feel like a child again :)

The story line was a huge let down. The acting seemed forced. The special effects were amazing. I expected more from this film. I thougth Mila Kunis did a great job. However, the make up artist that turned Mila into the witch just didnt get it. Overall a great disapointment. Wait for the dvd.

We saw this all together as a family. We all loved it. Great story and plot. Good pacing. Some scary elements but nothing bad for kids about 4 and up.
The effects and the backgrounds were amazing. If you can go see it in IMAX 3d! It was a lot of fun and everyone in my family wound up enjoying it!!!
The story is a fun prequel and it makes some overt and some hidden nods to the original.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The movie started off great, slowed down for about five minutes, and then took off like nothing else. Twists, laughs, action, eye candy, tears, you name it, this movie has it. And, it is the first 3D movie I've ever seen where it actually worked rather than being a distraction. Even though some of the plot twists are predictable, the nuances they thow in serve up more than enough surprises. Lesson learned; better to be good than great.
Pros great story, great actors
Cons left you wanting a sequel

One of my all time top 5 favorite movies is the Original OZ. I do understand that this is the story told from the witches storyline. I think classic movies like this shouldn't be re done.

Really enjoyed the movie. The cinematography was stellar, the music was inspiring, James Franco sucked.....Sorry
Really, a stage performer cant figure out how to say Ali Kazam! Seemed like his performance was right out of high school. This pretty much ruined it for me.
Everything else was just awesome. The color, the energy, the special effects....I would definitely recommend this movie, but with a caveat.

I rate this movie as an average rating. I chose this rating because there was nothing special about this movie. The story plot seemed pretty dull and was not even mildly interesting. I did not care for the story line. It was not interesting. Maybe the only positive thing I can say for this movie was the artwork seemed it was well made.
