The Las Vegas remake fit really well with Verdi's story. The cast was very strong. Rigoletto himself seemed somewhat diminished in this performance - not sure if that was the singer, the direction, or just the way the character is written. That being said, the music is gorgeous and many of the duets and quartets were nearly perfect.
Pros well paced, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was our second viewing of Rigoletto. The first was some years ago and that made it one of our favorites. I thought the Las Vegas setting worked very well. The cast was superb. It was a truly excellent production. My hat is off to Peter Gelb for his excellent stewardship of the Met.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great set
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Who knew Opera could be so enjoyable?! The Live in HD is such a fabulous option for those who either can't get to NYC or don't know if they will enjoy the experience enough to warrant the trip. This is an excellent alternative. The performance was live, and not only were we in the comfort of wide aisles and high back chairs, we also had the benefit of some behind the scenes interviews and subtitles! The adaptation of this to 1960s Las Vegas fits with the original story while giving it some relevance to the audience. Bravo!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

We had never scene "Rigoletto" and enjoyed it tremendously. I knew much of the music and now can appreciate the opera. That evening we saw "Quartet", about retired opera singers, with the Maggie Smith character having gotten 11 curtain calls for playing Rigoletto's daughter about four decades earlier. We also didn't realize that the lovely double duet in the opera was known by opera aficianados as the "quartet", and the movie connected the dots. The opera is timeless - love, passion, betrayal - which permeated "Quartet" and so many movies today.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.
