I really enjoyed this production. This was another great cast from the Met. Marcelo Alvarez is just great! Beautiful voice. Sondra Radvanovsky is THE Verdi Soprano. Stephanie Blythe just gets better every time I see/hear her. Dimitri Hvorostovsky and Kathleen Kim were perfect in their roles. I usually prefer a more traditional setting for the opera, but I enjoyed this one. Bravo David Alden! Fabio Luisi and the Met Orchestra were their usual..Magnificent! Do not miss this HD Broadcast...
Yes, I recommend this movie.

All the singers were magnificent! Verdi wrote pieces for all different combinations of the voices and they blended perfectly in any combination. Stephanie Blythe stole the show, but everyone was fabulous. The behind-the-scenes intermission presentations were the best ever.
Pros well paced, great actors, wonderful melodies
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The singing, orchestra playing, acting, and camera-work of this presentation was over the top. The thing that I could quibble with was the set. I do not usually like operas taken out of their context and brought forward to modern times. But in this case I cannot object too strongly because in this situation it worked! The stainless steel walls were favored by the cast since they could hear their own voices. The could-be-tedious first act was done broadway sing and dance style which allowed the story to be told in an environment of comedy...a great move of the director's part. The darkness of the second act worked even in a bright lighted space. The paranoia of the confrontation scene was enhanced by the clostrophobic shrinking of the shiny set. Go see this, You will like it.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Cons weird set
Yes, I recommend this movie.
