It is rare these days that we get movies that actually make you think. I loved every frame and hope we get more sci-fi from the master Ridley Scott.

I really enjoyed the synergy between this film and Alien, reverberating over 30 years. Noomi Rapace is a worthy successor to Sigourney Weaver. Michael Fassbinder was great, and again, the perfect follow-up to the original. The 3-D was smooth and very well used. It was worth the wait.

Prometheus (the ship) traveling through space is the highlight of the movie in IMAX 3D. Unfortunately that's about 10 minutes. Noomi Rapace was the stand-out actress. The story is good, but there are lots of unanswered questions (some I understand due to scenes that will be on the DVD). Of course we're all used to stories with unanswered questions these days...
This is not the intense, edge-of-the-seat, waiting-to-be-pounced-on terror of the original Alien, but there was a guy in our theater with four small children...NOT a good idea!
Prometheus does set the stage pretty well for the original Alien film.

Saw the movie twice. Hit or miss depending on who sees the movie, as a few plot issues really irked me both times. 3d was not worth it... you lose some color and definition...non-3d was colorful and crisp. Character development was lacking on a few of the cast who probably had more we could have learned about them. Maybe there is an extended edition that will be released. Technology, cinematography, etc. was fantastic and well done. Viral videos are impressive and well done.

The visuals are stunning but the film itself is a waste of talent, resources, and time. Why? The script is a serious dud. A sci fi film is supposed to provide a message of hope for the future. Even if the humans involved are flawed, at least one has to persevere and overcome the odds, and survive to embrace a brighter future. Suppose humans were seeded on planets throughout the galaxy and their forefathers (who would be viewed as superior alien beings by the emerging human cultures) came back from time to time to check on the colonies progress. So far so good. The natives might include some reference to these visitors in their primative art, perhaps on a cave wall or stone tablet. Then one day when the the colonists are able to explore space, they seek out the forefathers. Will they find hope (not answers) and inspiration? Or... the story line of this film is an insult to humankind, to sci fi, and to fans of Alien and Aliens (and even Predator v. Alien). If only there had been a great story and script to match the amazing visuals of this film. If only.

Prometheus can be a lot to chew on in one two-hour period, but I think the movie did a good job of giving us, the audience, enough to think about and talk out with friends afterwards. There is a lot at play without the whole "we're on a possibly hostile planet with possibly hostile lifeforms awaiting us" element, and that really helps the movie resonate with a wider swath of people.
The movie also excelled at driving its own story line, while fittingly giving us the Alien background much were expecting.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, fun to discuss

I thought they weren't going to make another "Aliens" movie. I'd say. If not for the IMAX 3D experience, this would be a "B" grade film. Even still, the sound was lacking and to storyline unworthy of a Sci-Fi conscious audience. Flaws were aboundant, scenes predictable and intellegent scientists just as stupid as ever. Really? Lets play with the alien as if it were a teddy bear...? Seriously? There's only one species of alien even though we have yet to investigate further or longer than 2 hours...? Honestly? They have to be benevolent... Why? This is assuming we mere humans crack and master kryo sleep technology and FTL (Faster Than Light travel) in the next 70 years. Science ship or not: no weapons? Even the alien ship; No weapons? It's just a bad "A" grade film.
Pros at least the black guy didn't die first.
Cons slow, poorly written, insificiant storyline, not realistic in any measure, unrealistic robot

This was my very first IMAX 3D movie experience, and it was incredible! I didn't feel like I was watching a movie, I felt like I was IN it! If you are ever going to see a movie in IMAX 3D, this is the one to see! Don't miss it while it's in the theaters, seeing at home, no matter how good your system is, just won 't do Prometheus justice. Enjoy!

I saw this in IMAX 3D not really enough 3D effects to validate wearing the glasses for the whole movie. The beginning is real slow, but it picks up from there. I didn't realize that this was the prequel for alien, and not being an alien fan, it helped not to know, so i didn't have any bias when i went in. Overall it was a pretty good movie. I would say if you were an alien fan, this is a must see.

Very good movie. Visually stunning, good story, excellent acting (Michael Fassbender was spectacular as David), special effects were great, set designs and costumes were very well done. Recommended to anyone who loves science fiction. Don't go to the movie expecting to see aliens ripping people apart and lots of action. Expect a great sci-fi movie that is story and suspense driven.

Kept wondering where the story was going untill a little past halfway when
it started to look similar to Aliens. Liked the fact that no one spilled the beans (except me). I can not remember a better prequel and how it was exposed. As for Ridley Scott, I can not wait for his next Sci Fi. He is the master. Just enough of everything,a well balanced piece of cinematic
genius.

As an all-time fan of Ridley Scott's work in the sci-fi and the genre he helped define for the following couple decades, I was really looking forward to see Prometheus. I tried to keep an open mind, knowing that I wasn't going to see a new Alien, but another story taking place in the same universe.
I must say that I had a great time overall. The cinematography is wonderful, and I was expecting no less from Scott. The special effects are also stunning, and I'm glad I decided to see it in Imax 3D. However, the scenario is suffering a few major flaws. There is just too many characters in my opinion to be able to develop their background and character, and I ended up not really caring for some of them. The focus is on Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender's characters (who both deliver amazing performances), but I wouldn't have minded if the movie was 20 mns longer and took time to develop the rest of the crew a bit more. As a result, some characters take some crucial decisions at some points in the film, which are important enough that the audience should empathize with them, but it just falls flat. The "C-section" sequence, despite its gruesome and powerful imagery, is also very hard to buy. I don't care when characters suffer major injuries and are still able to walk and run around for the rest of the movie as if what they just endured was just a little more than a bruise.
Despite all this, I liked the questions that the story is raising, and the developping of the "engineers" existence and motive. I would have loved if the scriptwriters kept Prometheus unique, though, and provided a couple more answers instead of leaving them open for a possible sequel.
Prometheus was for ma a very good entertainment moment, beautifully executed, despite these few flaws. I'd like to see it again.

The movie looks spectacular and a great concept was introduced, but thank Lindelof for giving us more questions than answers! Hopefully 2 and 3 will do a better job. All in all, a great movie. I have watched it 3 times so far.

Prometheus was one of those movies where you walk out of the theater and go, it was good, but it wasn't great. The movie definitely leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions, and makes you think; which is why I believe this is a set up movie. I think if this movie does well in the box-office, we will see a Prometheus 2; BUT this movie had very few thrills. I feel bad for comparing it to Ridley Scott's, "Alien"; but this movie couldn't even compare to the "Alien" thrills. The very ending of this movie though, made me VERY excited; but I won't be giving that away. Time for you, to go to the movies, and see for yourself.

I don't even know where to begin. First of all, the cesarean section to beat all cesarean sections had anyone who has ever had abdominal surgery rolling their eyes. If you have ever even seen a person recovering from this type of surgery, you would know that the immediate postoperative running, jumping and lifting was a fantasy in and of itself.
I am a huge science fiction fan. I was excited about this movie and loved Alien and Aliens. In my opinion, all the subsequent additions to the genre didn't happen. I was extremely interested in seeing how the ship carrying the eggs arrived on the planet in Alien. I was expecting a prequel to the Alien story, not a prequel to humanity and the aliens themselves. Prometheus gives us not only one origin story, but two.
We endcounter 3 species. Massive humanoids, humans, and aliens. The massive humanoids birth the humans, and then the humans birth the aliens. Really? Really.
From the other movies, we see that there are queens, there are warriors and there are the face-huggers. Can an entire species develop from a single warrior with no way to reproduce? Unlikely. Yet this is exactly what we are supposed to believe. Prometheus could have given us another glimpse into the Alien timeline, instead, it tried to give us some implausible genetic accident from which a species with a clear hierarchical structure, language and cooperative skills emerged. Fully formed. And then this warrior being somehow managed to reproduce, even though it is established that only queens can reproduce. Riiiight.
This ridiculous origin story, the revisiting of "the evil android," other images that seemed stolen or borrowed from other Alien movies combined into an implausible homage that left me rolling my eyes rather than wanting more.
Pros great actors
Cons too complex, unbelievable story
