Killing them Softly is 90 minutes of mostly boring monologues given by good actors who should not have wasted their time being in this pretentious, depressing, crime movie.
The movie has one good robbery scene which last for about 15 minutes, and other than that, it is mainly a bunch of good actors giving excruciatingly painful to listen to, long, drawn out monologues, that one wishes would have been cut by at least half.
Thee are also some overly stylized, overly violent scenes, that seem like the director tried overly hard to make into "art", but instead comes across as disturbing and gratuitous.
Killing them Softly tries so hard to be a "work of art" crime film, and fails miserably. Good actors with a terrible, pretentious script and directing make this a dont waste your time and money movie.

This movie is VERY SLOW to get started. Without giving anything away, the ending of this movie is one of the WORST i have ever seen!! Brad Pitt is Very Good and so are some of the other actors. It is about the best thing in the movie.
Mind you ... this movie could have been great. It just wandered off into mid level nothingness. Special effects are first rate. Some of the best firefight sequences ever. But his DOES NOT in any way make up for the rambling slipshot story. And other reviewers have mentioned, the background radio stories of the economic meltdown are repetitive and completely useless in the story. I am a pretty astute movie viewer and I still don't get the relevance to the movie.
Rent this on DVD ... save yourself 12 BUCKS!!

beautiful movie. to people who can relax and enjoy a good movie. not for people who are looking for fast action gangsters movie. usually not a big fan of Brad Pitt but is movie is totally on his shoulders. amazingly performance.

It's was a shame the way the movie moved (as in like a slug). The characters were good, the story line was good, but it was like they had a 20-30 minute good T.V. show and stretched into this hour and forty minute snoozefest. I believe that it could have been a lot better if it was no longer than an hour (and that would be stretching it) . I agree with a previous post that if you like The Sapranos that you MIGHT like this, however I wouldn't say it was anywhere near as good.
Overall, a major disappointment. If you're going to see it, wait for it to be released on video.

ok, ok, yes, it starts very slowly. and, yes, i've seen many better movies this year. that said, if you like soprano-esque mob movies, this might be your favorite film this month. the performances were good all around, but the story lacks, especially at the start. some of the effects are phenominal (shooting scenes for starters), but the constant background chatter about the 2008 financial meltdown does get really old, really quick. i liked it, see at your own risk...
