The build up is great and sucks you in. There isn't much down time, and keeps making you jump out of your seat. I love horror movies, and this had me holding my breath a few times.

I was so looking forward to this movie, but it was a huge disappointment. Don't waste your time or money on this one! I loved The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal, both of which I heard Chernobyl Diaries was compared to. It didn't measure up at all!

Some great scares to start but stops being scary and just becomes predictable. The "twist" ending is rediculous. I left the theater feeling a little disappointed and wanting to go home to watch the Blair Witch Project which was clearly a better movie. Style and back story were great so it's unfortunate the product was not.
Pros well paced, back story, a few good scares in the beginning.

Okay, so imagine that you're in Russia and someone says to you, "let's go check out an abandoned town minutes away from Chernobyl." What do you say? Hell no! sounds about right! That's sort of what they say, but then they throw it out for a vote and end up going anyway. "Yes, there's a lot of radiation, but we're not going to be there long enough," says the tour guide. What?!!! This movie is ridiculous in so many ways that it's not worth recommending. It's also quite predictable, just not very plausible. Anyway, save your time and money and skip this poorly thought out Russian tourism adventure. It's just not worth seeing!

A bunch of good-looking kids go somewhere they shouldn't fueled by youth and American arrogance. One by one they die while spewing out how they love and want to screw each other before they die. All the while the camera shakes. and moment of silence explode into loud scary moments.
Hollywood please stop making these movies.

The beginning and premise are OK, however once they get into the heart of the movie it goes downhill very quickly. There were 1-2 scenes that lived up to the hype of the trailers regarding scary, but that's all. The last 30 minutes is just bad and the ending, well lets say it seems to end because they ran out of film and had to stop, save your $$$

The fact that this movie was set in the shadow of Chernobyl was the main draw for me. The story is set in the abandoned city of Prypiat, the eerie industrial background as much a character in the story as the six young adults who find themselves trapped there when an "extreme tourism" adventure goes wrong. The acting is sort of what you would expect from this sort of movie: nothing spectacular. The story has a hard time getting started, the setup is clunky and doesn't really reach the goal of making us get to know and like the main characters (which may have something to do with the mostly flat, with occasional spurts of over the top, acting.) And the story is also a little predictable, with an end that kinda sorta fits with stuff we see during the film, but not really, so while it has some shock value, when you think about it, it's kind of ridiculous. The one thing that is not a "meh" with the film is its setting. The abandoned city provides plenty cool, creepy places to explore, run through, get trapped in, etc.
All in all, would I recommend it? If you are a horror movie buff, then yeah, I'd say go see it. It won't be your favorite, but you probably won't be sorry. If you aren't, then I'd say pass on this one... the summer's young, there's sure to be better.
