Alex Cross is one of my favorite Patterson characters, and Morgan just wasn't the right Cross. Tyler nailed it, Matthew Fox was outstanding, and the movie was just great from start to finish. My husband and I saw it with friends and we all totally enjoyed it.

If this abomination of a film were released as a comedy, it might have been hailed as the most subversive satire ever. But these people are totally serious about this film, with a lame story and a lead actor who seems to be uncomfortable in mens clothing.
I don't know who the people are who bumped up the rating here, perhaps they are getting a check from LGF but I can assure you that this is not a good film by any stretch of the imagination.
Cons bad acting, bad story, horrible script

I like Tyler Perry, but stepping into the shoes of Morgan Freeman may have been too much of a stretch. Perry is just too nice and lacks that serious edge that elevated the previous films (Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider). And what happened to director Rob Cohen (Fast and the Furious) in this film? Its choppy and telegraphs all its punches as if we need to be spoon fed.
If you've never seen an Alex Cross film, this one is ok, but if you have seen Morgan Freeman's interpretation, well, this version will seem like a High School theater company version of a Broadway play.
The biggest problem is that the script is weak. There's just no edge to it. Everything is constantly explained like a Lifetime tv film. Yes, I've sat through worse, but as much as I tried, I walked away disappointed. Save this one for a sleepy weekend on free cable.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I've read all of James Patterson Alex Cross books, so I knew going in to watch this I would have to have an open mind about them changing things to adapt to a movie. I was not happy when they took the character Sampson completely out of the story and replaced him with Edward Burns character Tommy Kane. Some of the camera shots were hard to watch during the end fight scene with Tyler and Matthew they were too close to catch all of what was happening. Overall a good movie and if they make a sequel I will check it out as well.
Pros well paced

Tyler Perry was good in the role. Matthew Fox Was great as the villain . The Actor playing the Police Chief gave a terrible hammy performance....bad acting!
