This movie was very Romanesque where society was totally controlled by an oppressive government and human depravity had become such that they enjoyed seeing other real people kill for enjoyment... scary because our freedoms are slowly being squelched and violence in entertainment is becoming the norm.. hoping that this isn't a movie about our imminent future.. Very well done... plus it shows how the human spirit yearns for freedom and defies those who would try to oppress it. Hope that the sequel is produced with the same quality ..
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

Read all three of the book in about two weeks. The books are amazing. I was curious how they would fit all that happens in those into movies. The first movie did not disappoint. It stayed pretty close to the books with a few details changed and omitted . But count the movie separate from the books, it was very entertaining. It was a bit long, but the story and the visual effects were good. Can't wait for Catching Fire!

Good job fitting in most of the concepts from the book. Just wish all of the detail could have been included. But that would have required it to be 2 movies.
I understand parents being concerned about violence against teenagers, but this book and movie are about the 2 teens who fight against a situation that caused them to participate in socially-forced violence. Hooray for rebels against violence and social inequality!!
Do like that the gamemaker, Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley) was featured more in the movie than in the 1st book. His focus on raising the entertainment factor of the games, then coming down to a somewhat moral decision in the end was a plus. Of course we're proud that Wes is from Arkansas as well.

Often times, screen writing will suck the soul out of a novel adaptation. It is telling in this case that Suzanne Collins was a big part of the screen writing team - she made sure that the essence of her novel made it to the screen, and did not get left on the cutting room floor (or in the modern world, deleted off the production drive...)
Jennifer Lawrence was more than up to the task of riveting the audience as the lead. Casting all-around was spot-on.
A thoroughly enjoyable movie for me.

Easy to follow. IMAX experience was great. Casting was well done. Took me forever to figure out who Senna was played by. haha

I read the books in one week, they were that good. I was very happy with the movie, I thought they did a great adaptation and the cast was PERFECT. I saw this in IMAX and at first the shaky camera bothered me but thankfully it was all at the beginning. I can't wait for Catching Fire to come out! GREAT MOVIE!

I didnt read any of the books so i wasnt sure how i would be during the film if i would be lost wondering what the heck is going on, but that was not the case. i was able to follow along with the movie no problem and such great imax experience. when was over i sat there thinking i can not wait till the second one comes out because the first one was so good i can only imagine what the second one is going to be like. this movie is a must see movie. go out and see it before leaves imax!!!!!
