This was the first Resident Evil I have seen, afterwards my husband and I rented the first movie and it was way better. The movie was just average on all aspects, nothing spectacular.

At this point in a franchise, you have to ask why it has gone on so long. The answer is Milla Jovovich, the gorgeous kick ass hero who has managed to become the best female action star in movie history.
The movie is good as usual but Jovovich manages to endow her Alice with something we never knew she had: a heart.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, milla jovovich 3/4 nude

The movie actuallly starts off where the last began with a twist. The simulations are awesome. The story line was a little weak including the dialouge. If you are not a die hard fan and missed any insallments up to this one, you will not enjoy it. Does not mean I wouldn't recommend it but would recommend watching all the others before investing your time to this one. Camerwork and premise is very good and the characters played their roles nicely. I am usually not startled but there where times throughout when I was caught off guard making the movie more enjoyable than normal. Lastly, if you do not pay close attention, you will be lost and that will reflect from the good movie that is in front of you. Looking forward to the next one for the action looks to be more far superior than what was on the table with this one.

My wife and I both enjoyed all the other Resident Evil movies. We found them exciting, well made, good character development etc. However, this latest movie was seriously one of the worst movies either of us have ever seen. They spent more time worrying about special effects and making the movie "cool for 3d" than they did about developing the plot, characters, or spending a little bit of time on the dialogue. All the dialogue was so incredibly predictable and I have honestly seen better dialogue on some of video games out there then in this movie. After sitting there hoping it would end soon, we also came to the realization that absolutely nothing was accomplished. Its like they made an entire movie because they knew they had to but didnt want to further the story much at all.
What I mean by that is the entire movie takes place inside a testing facility that re-enacts actual events which happened in major cities across the globe. So they are not fighting the real zombie apocalypse or figuring out how to end it once and for all or anything that would be considered progress. Literally the entire movie was the escape from the facility and it isnt until the last minute of the movie that you see what they are really up against next.
I also think its ridiculous that they built a ton of hype around old characters coming back. They should have just said "old actors coming back" because they played clones of their former selves for the most part and were not even the same characters from the other movies. This movie was so misguided and horribly done besides a few cool effects and trying to make you jump it literally missed the mark on all levels.
It would have been better not to have wasted all of our time with horrible acting (even from Milla) and just moved along in the story a bit. This movie feels like it was made to coincide with the video game instead of letting the movie develop into its own more complex storyline. I can't say enough about how bad the acting was. Seriously the entire movie my wife and I just kept looking at eachother saying... this is so bad! What were they thinking???
I truly think this has ruined the franchise and if they keep making these, this will be the one movie people say, "Oh I have the entire series but we can just skip over retribution... nothing really happens at all."

The franchise is a let down with number 5, the reanimation of old actors made sense with the umbrella corp utilizing DNA cloning. One expects that from an evil company, however the reintroduction to Adam Westoras and the Red Queen was cheesy, not to mention the story could be much better if found Alice washed ashore after the explosion on Arcadia. The story line plausibility doesn't make any sense. If I were to write it then I would change the sequence, Mila washes up on shore, is found by the girl who believes her to be her mother. Nurses her back to health, then cut to Adam and why he switched sides, why he left umbrella, and even if is still the bad guy but temporarily aligned with the good side it works. He then organizes a team to find Alice, and does soem cheesy move to reinject her with The T virus... or better yet offers it to her and she makes the choice to become the hero and take out the prime research facility of Umbrella. The movie would extend for another 45 minutes as we walk throught the prime facility. Now if you want to continue the franchise then leave the Red Queen out of it until the very end where we are introduced to the real bad guy and MIla discovers her new path as the hero.

In order to keep up with the story line of each new movie, I would strongly recommend to see this one so you can keep up with the saga. The way it ended, there has to be another movie to end it all. And if not, there should be. This particular movie was the weakiest out of all of them but really enjoyed the action scenes.

I do have to say off the bat that this movie in comparison to the rest of the RE movies is not quite as impressive. A lot of the acting seemed forced and somewhat robotic when it came to the dialogue. But I am a diehard fan, and would still buy it on DVD. If you are looking for a movie that is 90% action and 10% acting or if you're like me where it is hard to be disappointed in these films, you would probably walk away from this one satisfied. But if you are looking for anything other than that, i would wait to rent it.

I have loved the previous movies in the chain of RE movies, in fact fanatical to a point.
This current movie, was poor in it story, content, action, camera work, special effects, and the fighting scenes were so obvious in the blue screen work and he acrobat harnesses it was laughable.
The further acting was poor by the supporting actors...
Over all - very very disappointed.

Paul W.S. Anderson please quit making any more movies! Everyone who took a part in making Resident Evil: Retribution, please go back to movie schools and graduate.
