It's great to see this crew develop into the characters we all know and loved! However, I think Spock is too human. A vulcan would not kiss in public or show any signs of affection. Other than that it was great! I look forward to more great adventures from this crew!

I really enjoyed this movie! It was a great followup to the first endeavor.
The acting was quite good. The cast conveyed the heart of the original series and portrayed convincing portrayals of the former actors. Chris Pine was brilliant as Captain Kirk. He showed constraint while making that role his own.
The plot was decent and had interesting overtones with flashbacks to another great movie "The Wrath of Khan"!

Working on a blend of old stories told in a new timeline allows director Abrams to give the old fans a giddy treat as he fills the screen with amazing nonstop action that really takes advantage of 3D (see it in 3D if you can on a BIG screen because its worth it for a change).. By recycling old characters and villains in a new way, the film maintains suspense and teases you with little treats both expected and not as well with a few surprises. What makes it work is that its actually fun.
Captain Kirk is far too young and cocky for the command he has assumed, yet we all know that he is the one man in the entire Star Fleet who has that gut ability to beat the odds no matter how stacked against him they always seem. Watching the evolving relationships between the crew is at times funny and at other times emotionally powerful. Its this mix of comedy and action that gives the new Star Trek films their punch. And there's a lot of punching here, both physical and in punching to warp speed. The romantic fights between Spock and Uhura in front of Kirk are killer good.
Bottom line, I give Star Trek a big Vulcan thumbs up (whatever that might look like)! Live long and prosper!

This movie kept me on the edge of my seat with at first wondering what was going on, to anticipating the unfolding of the twists in the storyline. Great movie and a very different interpretation by J.J. Abrams. Afterall, the timeline was disturbed bringing about a difference in how friendships were formed.

J.J. Abrams definitely knows how to make a fun movie. The pacing, action sequences, and special effects are all spot on.
His weakness (in all of his projects, but especially for Star Trek) is story. This reboot franchise is great, but, with Into Darkness, it seems apparent that Abrams, his writers, and the actors still haven't quite dialed in to the universe of 23rd century Star Trek or these particular Star Trek characters.
Kirk, Spock, and McCoy form an inseparable triumvirate of drive, reason, and passion that Pine, Quinto, and Urban haven't been able to replicate convincingly just yet. Pine's Kirk is still too unsure of himself. Quinto's Spock, though understandably more connected to his human half following the events of the first film, does not deliver the superior intellect and expansive knowledge for which Spock was renown. Urban's McCoy perfectly channels the country doctor's sometimes explosive gruffness, but fails to capture the charm that DeForest Kelley so effortlessly infused into the character; Urban's McCoy just seems pissed off and annoyed most of the time.
For this reboot's second outing, I'd expected a more substantial presentation of these characters (as well as much more from Sulu, Chekov, Scotty, and Uhura). The first film worked better as an ensemble piece than this second one, though this one certainly didn't fail. But so much of it felt superficial, as if the effort referenced Star Trek rather than being an authentic Star Trek vehicle.
Curiously, and perhaps Star Trek fans are already debating this, but I wonder, considering the events of both of these films occur within what they themselves have determined to be an alternate time line, if these films qualify as true Star Trek canon. Aren't parallel universes fun?
**SPOILER ALERT**
That J.J. Abrams and the writers elected to resurrect Khan for this film, as well feature a Leonard Nimoy cameo, was bitter sweet in that it was certainly nice to see familiar characters (and actors) again (and definitely fun for a Star Trek fan to see how this alternate time line deals with them), but it's a little disappointing that the filmmakers didn't present entirely new material. Let's hope the next film (if there is a next film) doesn't involve a time-travel scenario that pairs this alternate reality 23rd century crew with an alternate reality 24th century Next Generation crew.

Regardless, Star Trek Into Darkness is highly entertaining and a worthy sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek film. I've seen, and really enjoyed, it twice and plan on adding it to my Blu-ray collection as soon as it becomes available.

I thought the non-stop action was great, although I wish I would have seen it in 2D. The 3D version had too much glare across the bottom of the screen, and it was irritating. The story line seemed to be a rehash of "The Wrath Of Kahn".

Despite my admiration for JJ Abrams work, I was understandably skeptical of his ability to top his first reimagining of the Star Trek universe. His subtle nods to the original universe's narrative and timeline, while constantly twisting them in unexpected and clever ways, has made this story fresh and exciting.
Both his first and second Star Trek movies are excellent additions to the pantheon, and also serve as solid vehicles to introduce the universe to those who never spent time in the original.

The IMAX experience in 3D was so incredible, I thought I could feel the spray on my face!!! I really didn't think the last Star Trek could be outdone, and maybe it wasn't, but it sure seemed like it was!!!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, excellent 3d

i'm a big fan of the series in general and read many of the continuing stories in the star trek universe. that being said, this reboot series is less than stellar. the first was ok and had plenty of action. this one, not so much. i enjoyed the movie in general but the sliced and diced storyline was drawn out to allow for beautiful filler, but no story. they would have been better off leaving out the visuals and packing the movie into a 90 minute version of itself. while worth the price of admission, i would NOT pay for the underwhelming 3D.
perhaps JJ Abrams should stick to tv shows, because his movies kinda suck.

Couldn't they come up with the original story? They slaughtered all the sacred cows and made a questionable sausage. Abrams took the iconic Trek characters and greatest scenes from the previous movies and shows and jammed them unceremoniously into this "new" timeline, completely bastardizing all we know and love in the process. This is as much as I can say without revealing the plot.
Visually - more glares and confusing 3D with obnoxious ever present Star Wars look with Spaceballs uniforms.
Overall, there was so much in this movie, I am still trying to make sense of it. The trekkie in me is not happy.... not happy at all. If you approach this as non-Trek Sci-Fi, then the movie is OK.
Pros great actors, nice action, keeps trek alive, good visuals
Cons misuse of trek characters, plagiarism, jj abrams and his star wars obsession

An exciting, fun addition to the Star Trek franchise. A little too much effort to make the audience laugh, but well worth the theatre experience. Saw it in 3D and while not a big fan of 3D films yet, the experience was enjoyable except for the numerous tight facial shots where you could count the pores on the actors faces. Also glad JJ Abrams reduced the number of camera flare shots which were innovative but somewhat distracting in the previous film.

If you see movies only for special effects and the beauty of art direction, then you will probably like this movie. If you are a true sci-fi fan who likes to immerse yourself and get lost in an alternate world, then you will have serious problems with this movie. It is impossible to immerse yourself in alternate reality when a new inconsistency is created every 5 minutes. The story is poorly put together and has to limit the use of technology (sci-fi) to only instances where it helps piece the bad story together..
