Well known (and good) actors, grimly fascinating disaster, uplifting story, Why isn't this well-done film a bigger headliner? I particularly love the young actor Tom Holland, who in any other year that doesn't have Daniel Day Lewis, Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman on the menu, should be considered as having turned in one of the best male performances of the year.
Gut wrenching special effects and camera work, super art direction, really "bring you there." So glad I caught it before it goes away.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great special effects, great camerawork, great art direction

For those of us living in such a soft, easy world, this movie is a kick in the gut. Usually in a suspenseful movie you can see what you would do if in the same situation. You'd get creative. You determine what you've got to work with and go to work problem-solving. Not this movie.
Very minor spoiler alert: You’re by the pool in your bathing suit and WHAM now you’re in water over your head with trees and building parts rushing by. No pocket knife, no 72-hour kit, no nothing. Go ahead, see if you can dodge that car floating toward you with the current so strong you can't possibly fight against it.
I feel so sorry for those who were bored by this movie. I can see how that might happen if you never loved anyone more than yourself. Or you never have been in a situation of extremely dangerous possibilities. For one who deeply loves his or her family and has been in any kind of dangerous situation, this movie will cause deeply moving emotions to rise to the surface and you will feel extremely grateful that those you love are safe.
Go see this movie if you’d like to be moved. It’s different than Le Miz, of course. But, nonetheless, the story and effects will move you. And if you were bored by it, go find someone to love so much so that you totally forget about yourself. Then go see it again.

There were so many wonderful things happening all around them, in spite of the devastation. The sacrifice made with sharing a phone, time, energy..... learning compassion for strangers & love for siblings. It was awesome & sweet and at same time, disheartening with all the devastation & uncertainty that was captured so brilliantly in the special effects. Its incredible that All of 1 family lived to talk about it, not to mention, a Blessing.

This is not easy to watch. The story is of a family on vacation in a seaside resort. As they play poolside a sudden wall of black debris laden water hits with incredible violence. I cannot overstate the shock. The special effects are excellent and add to the vivid realism. As this family of five become separated, the intensity of the event increases geometrically. Everyone is injured. Some being horrible to see. The sense of fear is constant. But as events reach their worst people do their best. Naomi Watts is simply excellent in a very difficult role (both to act and watch). But it is Tom Holland as her eldest son who is the star of this true story.
This is a very emotional gut wrenching film and certainly not to be viewed before heading to a beach resort. But it is masterfully done and best for the special effects and fine acting.

I had high hopes for this but was disappointed. Its paper-thin, paragraph-long plot follows a family of five through the tsunami, their separation, survival, and reuniting. The special effects were good, but only comprised a few minutes of the movie. The rest was mostly boredom. My son left early.

Highly recommend this movie. About fifteen minutes into the movie the intense action begins. I was so involved in this story, I think I forgot to breathe a few times! Unbelievable special effects, very realistic scenes, and not predictable. Naomi Watts played a wonderful part and deserves her nomination, and Ewan McGregor was also excellent. I felt as though I was experiencing this traumatic event myself. Go see it!

Get ready to hang on and bring tissues! Based on a families true story who experienced the 2004 Tsumni while on holiday. An emotionally gripping movie that brings to light what is really important in life. Naomi Watts is nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of the mother and she deserves to win the Golden Man!
