I wasn't sure what to expect. The story was heartfelt, touching and nuanced. I loved the characters and the acting was superb. The fact that it was directed by the author of the screenplay, based on his own book indicates that this was clearly a labor of love. I highly recommend this movie!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great directing
Stephen Chbosky directs the film version of the novel that he wrote, and that personal touch is felt deeply through every frame of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. The heart of this fantastic coming-of-age film is its performances – raw, true, and overflowing with youthful energy. Logan Lerman plays the shy freshman with a past, who doesn’t quite know where he should try to fit in at his new school. Enter Ezra Miller and Emma Watson, seniors at the school with a rebellious streak and hearts of gold big enough to let the new kid into their world. Through their adventures they form bonds that may or may not last forever (you’ll have to watch to find out), and memories that will undoubtedly guide them into greatness for the rest of their lives. The movie feels so John Hughes-y, bursting with style and substance, traits that most “teen” flicks of today lack desperately. So “Superbad” was deeper than most because it dealt with…the fear of loneliness, the unknown? “Perks” hits much harder with themes of sexuality, intense depression, molestation, and suicide. But you’ll laugh too, it’s not all a sob story. It’s a true-life tale about growing up and fitting in, and allowing others to help you when you’re at your worst. “Perks” is coming-of-age at its best.

This is an amazing adaptation of the book, which I liked -- just not nearly as much as I enjoyed the movie. Highly recommended.

When books get made into movies there is always a doubt in my mind of whether it will be good or not buy this movie there was no doubt in my mind just by seeing the first 5 minutes. The characters were well developed and I never once felt bored throughout the movie and that's what I felt reading the book. I'm glad this movie was perfect.
Pros great story, great actors

I'm rarely one to love a movie, but I loved this one. The characters are well developed, the storyline is compelling and really pulls you into the plot of the story. You feel for each person's story. You cringe for them, you smile, laugh, and cry with them. Absolutely phenomenal.
Wasn't sure what to expect when purchasing my ticket, but was pleasantly surprised. This move will take you back to your high school days in the 80's, complete with that feel good 80's music and the struggle to make friends in your first freshman year. The "want" and need to belong, to not be alone. It connects with the complex reality of suppressed memories which, when we finnally learn what really happened, will tie your stomach in knots. It touches on the struggle of being gay (and known for being gay) in an american high school in the 80's. If you like John Hughes movies, you will love this one. See it before it leaves the theatre.
I really enjoyed this movie. Lerman, Watson and Miller were all terrific. The storyline is believable, yet has enough threads winding in and out to keep your mind fully engaged.
Chbosky brings genuine feeling to his variation on teenage angst and unrequited love, developing soulful characters and a funny but melancholy narrative. Regardless of the viewer's proximity to his or her own high school experience, "Perks" seems to get it right, precisely because it's not about a specific time or place. Teenage wallflowers, past and present alike, will feel tingles of recognition, and pure pleasure. A must see.

A balance of deep characters and well timed humor transports you back to highschool with open eyes and an open heart. The triumphs of friendship prevail as an ongoing exposure of the characters' internal and external struggles reveals the harsh beauty that is true relationship.
Not for those who want their entertainment only warm and fuzzy, this movie doesn't ignore pain while it maps out ways of learning and living hope. There were a few moments when Emma Watson reminded me she is Emma Watson (instead of being Sam), but that won't keep me from watching movie this movie again.
The soundtrack fit. The filming was intimate, most often placing the audience in the position of an unnamed and comfortable character in the film. This film had some of the most gracefully managed flashbacks I've experienced.
Amazing. Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my all-time favorite books and I was hesitant to see the movie because I thought it might ruin it. But Stephen Chobosky did a fantastic job of bringing the story to the screen. I fell in love with the characters all over again.
One of the best parts about this film was the Art Direction! They really made it look authentic and felt like the 90's without seeming to out of date. Great story too.

This movie made me feel like i wasn't alone, i loved it so much! it changed my life, i mean i've read the book loads of times; but this movie gives me hope for new beginnings. Thank You so much Emma Watson for being so persistent and getting this movie made, it is much need. I can't wait for more and more young people to see this movie, and try and be more understanding, that weird kid is not just that weird kid you pick on we all have stories, no one of us are any stranger than any other some of us, are just honest with who we are which is so rare in high school these days. Thank you again for this movie. xx
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, changed my life, represented the book perfectly well
