This movie brings together superheroes who have previously appeared in their own movies and has them band together to face the same adversary. I would suggest renting the movies in which each superhero appeared alone before watching this one, since I think it will increase your enjoyment of The Avengers. The movie creates a realistic plot thread about whether superheroes who are used to working alone can really be comfortable working together, as well as including a host of impressive special effects. I think that the signature line of the movie is likely to be the unfinished sentence: that they can't be the Avengers without something to avenge.
Excellent all around. Never took itself too seriously. If only Giantman and Wasp could have been present too...
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Cons too short
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie was AMAZING!!! My favorite part would have to be when Loki was starting to give Hulk a speech on how superior he is to everyone, then Hulk grabbed him by the leg and slammed him into the ground over and over again.
Awesome, bonus it you stay for just a bit at the end, then even more footage if you stay till the very end, but the second one is not too exciting, but is funny!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Although I didn't watch all of the Marvel movies, it wasn't a requirement to enjoy The Avengers. I found the story to be very interesting, with enough side action to keep me interested until the crescendo of the movie.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

J Whedon did a great job at directing/writing The Avengers -- not an easy task it is bringing superhero characters together in one screenplay! Like Avatar, this movie will be a benchmark for years to come.

The film from the get-go is filled with fantastic, artistically creative special effects, drama (lots of personal and professional drama), and almost-realistic projections of ominous other-world creatures and invaders who, of course, choose Manhattan this time instead of LA as their initial stage of war against humanity and Earth, for that matter. One can always count on space invasion of Earth to begin in either New York or LA--never Des Moines, IA, or say, Tampa, Fl. Not exciting enough terrain, I suppose, for warfare with aliens. The character dialogue is often flat and winded, yet intentionally and even unintentionally humorous. For example, the demi-God character, Loki, is considered "adopted" because he has anger management issues with the world. The Avengers themselves also have unresolved male prowess issues, are depressed, and narcissistic. Hilarious! I especially found humor in Mark Ruffalo's character, The Hulk, riding in on a small motorcycle he presumably found and rode right to the exact place in Manhattan his Avenger cohorts were fighting aliens. It was so unintentionally cheesy it made the movie audience roar. See this film only because you crave fantastic action and devastation scenes (and perhaps some nice eye-candy men). For great and beautiful dialogue, as well as filmography, go next door to see "Polisse" by French writer/director, Emmanuelle Bercot Maiween.
Pros great action, great artistry, great special effects, sexy characters
Cons slow, poor dialogue, simplistic, average acting
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The movie was absolutely GREAT! It was like watching a live comic book. Action and adventure right from the 'GO!' Tony Stark/Iron Man was truly my favorite. Robert Downey Jr. actually makes his character like a very modern "Now a day's" man, with "Super Intelligence'". Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk has been the most original and accurate. He reminded me a great deal of Bill Bixby (R.I.P.) Sameul Jackson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson made it complete. My only dissapointment was that the "Shield" supervisor died! PLEASE, bring him back in the next movie. My husband and I waited until after ALL the credits rolled to see "The Avengers" grabbin a bite to eat after their day of crime fighting. LOVED IT!!! Absolutely the Bomb Diggity"!
The movie was excellent, good action, super heroes. All is good about the movie but the buying tickets on-line needs work. I do not like that you can not print your tickets.
Pros well paced, great story
Yes, I recommend this movie.
