I was excited to see this film, I had enjoyed the original & WANTED TO SEE WHITNEY! I knew when the film was bumped up to shw in August instead of original date, something would be missing...I wish a Montage of WHitney could have been shown during the closing credits..or outtakes of the movie.Whitney did a very good job in the film..Jordin Sparks is beautiful & a wonderful singer, there no scenes of them singing together though they are on the soundtrack.
The story is not as gritty as the original,this version is a little preachy which is reallized when the credits rolled, T.D Jakes is involved. I t was not clear of what happened to "Emma" when she tried "show business" Why was "Sister" so angry with her when, clearly a beautiful home was provided for the family and "Emma' had her own business...Did Emma fall into drugs or alcohol? She at least pulled it together enough to provide for her children. Why was she passed out on the couch as the girls snuck out and sang at night clubs..for months?
They should've watched the scene from "what's love gotta do with it" do learn how to direct and film a domestic violence scene..Larry Fishburne was excellent..this one was choppy and looked amaturely done.
How did "Sparkle" fil up a venue & afford an orchestra and all...for an unknown singer?

Okay, I will still reccomend the music is good, Whitney, and it has good intentions...just need a little tightening up.

We were looking for a movie that my mom and we would enjoy, and Sparkle fit the bill. Whereas the story is familiar and dialogue is OK, it held our interest. We especially enjoyed the musical numbers.

This movies was good. I would not compared it to the orignal. I planning on take my daughter to see this movie, It ha a nice story line about the ups and down in the entertainment industies. My husband stay awake who normally falls asleep at the movies.

I think it has wonderful meaning behind it it let's you know follow your dream don't let anyone let you down and say you can't do it. Spakle found her passion and she went with it even though her mother wasn't to fine of it but I think it was a GREAT MOVIE!!!!!! :)

My wife and I attended and we cried and laughed with a since of great 'joy'. Of course we were touched each time Whitney appeared on screen. We were impressed with Jordan's acting skills, we all knew she could sing. The movie left some stories undeveloped, but that's good. keep the interest and lets the viewer dream about what may develop. I truly enjoyed the film and would highly recommend it to everyone.

I really enjoyed this movie. The actors all fit the roles, were believable and natural. The music was awesome. Very strong, beautiful voices.
I thought there were a few gaps in the story line - everyone just easily accepted that Sister would take the rap for the murder, for example. And no "church" mother is going to go from STRICT to bringing her daughter an extremely revealing dress to wear. And why was there just all of a sudden a nose bleed? Should have happened at least one other time to establish history. I would have liked more back story overall, but I understand there's only so much time.

The movie was good . For the most part this is the modern version of a good classic . I commend Jordin Sparks for her acting ability her singing was outstanding,Two standouts Carmen Ejogo(as Sister ) and Mike Epps (as Satin) As the abusive husband Epps showed me he can act and Ejogo torn up the scenery as the abused female lead

I loved the movie. The original Sparkle is one of my favorite movies. I like the way the story line was changed. I enjoyed the freshness of the songs being sung differently than the original. The make up was flawless and provided a different view for each scene--fantastic job. Whitney Houston was a joy to watch and to see her play such a strong role. Jordan Sparks did a great job and her singing made me cry. Mike Epps showed a different side of his abilities, but he was still "stupid"--- loved him. I experienced several emotions --- crying, laughing, praising God, sadness, regret, anticipation, fear, and ultimate accomplishment. I am proud of Bishop Jakes letting the world know that you can be a child of God, preach the Gospel of Jesus, and produce movies that ultimately display a message of hope and victory. I will be purchasing the CD and then the DVD when it is released.

I truly enjoyed the movie. I was happy to see that the remake did not follow the exact storyline of the original. I watchted with a little sadness, as I thought about the loss of Whitney Houston. Her rendition of His Eye Is On The Sparrow will definitely make me purchase the soundtrack.. Miss you much Whitney!

I watched the original the night before and expected the exact same storyline but was surprised to see they changed quite a few things. The new movie was good, modern and made the characters come to life. It was a hard transition for the new one to feel like it took place in the 60's but I liked them boh. Loved Whitney!
