I would not say it was the scariest movie I have ever seen, like so many of the ads are saying, but it was pretty darn creepy. Not cheeky, like the original, just a straight at you horror movie. It comes right out and punches you between the eyes. Scary from the first 2 minutes of the movie.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

I went to see the Evil Dead with my girlfriend. Both of us are big fans of the original movie as well as the horror genre in general. The both us left the theater feeling disappointed by this film.
This movie can't really be called a remake but more like a reimagining of the original. This movie lacked the dark comedic aspects of the original. It's geared more toward the younger generation who haven't seen the original trilogy of the Evil Dead franchise.
I would say that if you're going to see this film do not go in thinking that this film is an update of the original film but more of an interpretation bearing it's name. It'll make for a fun night out so long as you have other plans after you leave the theater.

I HAD to see it. Had such hope. I even tried to ask myself repeatedly, 'Am I judging this too harshly', 'were my expectations too high'? No. It JUST WAS NOT GOOD. If you want to do your own take...then do it. Don't ape Sam Raimi's swirling thru the sound system voices and late night swamp cam, AND POORLY. I mean, you want to do the tricks, tech has advanced in huge strides...why are they pale imitations and not improvements? Or...did you want to mute them so you don't get accused of trying to go slapsticky like Raimi. If so, then why even do it? Not going to discuss spoilers but there is a better story/reason for them being in a dilapidated cabin in the woods than Raimi's, but if you are only going to throw random plot points out without developing them or attempting to tie them together and integrate them into the storyline...why bother? And no...this is not NC-17 stuff. Maybe I am jaded, but none of the effects are all that...either over-the-top or even particularly engaging/interesting. This movie is not named Evil Dead(and it really could have been, other than a loose tie to the Necronomicon it's pretty standalone) and NOBODY cares. You have to care about your characters in order to feel any dramatic weight when they get ripped to shreds and that...ain't...here. The audience was mostly bored, waiting for something, anything that had a spark of the wild creativity that the original(which is not a perfect movie by any means) had. Just a product of our times. Overhyped repackage of a classic movie that is meant to capitalize on the young audience who have heard the original discussed in reverence. In the end, my bag of overly salted popcorn had more to it than this empty exercise.

EVIL DEAD...where do I start?.......I feel like a horror virgin again.If you feel like your jaded and have seen it all this movie will beat that out of you. It is the perfect mix of classic american horror and japanese grind gore. I was not a drop of disappointed even going in a bit skeptical.. I am a huge fan of the original......and this may have been better...technicaly it was far better.It was 100% Evil Dead,minus the cheese..

To start off, I am a huge Evil Dead fan! Anyone giving this movie less than 4 stars is living in the past and needs to take this movie for what it is. A re-imaging of a cult classic! Stop comparing it to the original series and go in fresh. This movie has great art direction and a fantastic atmosphere. Fede does a great job of pacing and gets the brutal tension just right! The gore flows freely and has a real feel of horror movies from generations past. While watching, I got the same feeling I had when I first started watching horror films, excitement, dread and satisfaction. We finally have a real horror film, something that has been sorely lacking in the last 20 years. Major kudos to everyone involved and for Campbell, Raimi and Tapert for backing this 100%. I cannot wait to see what's next!

This was the best remake of any horror film I have ever seen. Any remake faces huge challenges of living up to the standards of the original which is why some might give this film average to sub par ratings. "Evil Dead met those challenges and added its own originality to scare the heck out of me. Demonic, twisted, and gorey are words that I would use to describe the overall feeling I had at its unpredictable ending.

They did a great Job remaking evil dead, the gore was real and not cgi. The blood was done old school, cgi blood just does not do it for me . They did a hell of a job. If your a fan of old school blood gore you will love this movie, there is some cgi but it is mixed in very well and consistent through out whole movie so it really does not stand out

Having seen the original a long time ago, I did not remember a lot of the details. There was a lot more gore then I remembered in the original and although the story line was pretty much the same, there were 3-4 places where the cringe factor engaged and at least one scene where I literally jumped in my seat. I thought that it was a lot more serious then the original and overall seemed to me like a cross between the Saw movies and Amityville Horror. But I did enjoy it.

When I saw the trailer of this movie, I laughed because it look pretty stupid. Looked like another "sexytime cheesy horror flick". Opening night I decided to give it a try due the decent rating. This movie's first impression was horribly slow and bland. About 30 minutes in the movie, I had no idea what I was watching. The most terrifying thing about this movie you might ask? The ghastly murder of the English language. Even right at the beginning the F bomb was dropped about 4 times. I had no idea that certain words could be combined to make the script of this movie! I can't believe that movies like this make a sale. Are there any sane people in Hollywood left that aren't money hungry and are trying to cash cow on the horror flick genre? Obviously not. I can't believe that this movie got decent user review to begin with. I imagine that there must have been a hefty pay to try to cough up a review in order to get people to watch a movie this bad. I feel so stupid that I fell right into the trap that was this movie. It'll only get it's money opening weekend then when the word gets out that this movie is absolute trash, people will stop wasting their cash and time, and then the directors, producers, writers that come up with these godawful movies move on to the next moneyshot.
My final words? Leave the Horror genre to the crew of "Insidious" and " Dead Silence". Now those are real movies that will terrify you to the edge of your seat.
Pros good popcorn made it worthwhile.

Like most who saw the original, I'm a diehard fan of the original "Evil Dead". The movie starts out a bit slow, but once it gets going - hold on to your seats! This remake was good, but could have been so much better in terms of "Scare and Shock" value. Especially since the main character was trying to kick her drug habit, this alone could have taken her hallucinations to a whole new level (seeing shocking things that not there, then cut back to reality!) The director could have had a field day with that one! The gore and blood was over-the-top! This movie gives "Violent" a whole new meaning! And the over all theme with the creepy looking cabin in the woods was perfect, however, many more "Surprise Shock and Scares" could have been added throughout this movie to make it extremely scary!! The previews tend to show the best parts of the movie (well, some of the best parts). Like the girl in the cellar (creepy as hell).

This is definitely a version of the movie that is meant to be scary. I know the original had scary moments, and the intentions, but this one was able to benefit of the advances in technology, along with the advances in what can and can't be shown.

I've been a fan of the original Evil Dead trilogy for years, and I've been very optimistic about this new movie and it's attempt to remake the original. And I was not let down, this movie delivered one wild ride. The movie begins somewhat slow, but once the story gets moving, it doesn't let up. There is very little, if any at all, CGI in the movie, and that makes the movie look surprisingly real. Evil Dead has great horror and tension; some actual bits of comedy; and tons of gore, dismemberment and blood. Tons of blood. By the time the movie was over, all I wanted to do is see it again. I felt the movie could have expanded a bit in a few plot points, but overall it was a good story. If you're a fan of the original Evil Dead movies, or just a fan of actually good horror movies, do yourself a favor and see this film.

This movie might be considered "OK" except that it is compared to the original 1981 version, which was "Out-Standing". Overall a nice horror flick, without a good plot or any good scary scenes.
