Great movie, except for the constant use of the f-bomb. If this is how people speak - and frankly I do not hear it - than the population and the acting community need a class in standard English. The consistent use of the f-bomb did not help the movie, it became a crouch. There were times when the actor's voices dropped and the line was lost. The story itself and its development were wonderful. Short of the language, I really liked this movie.

This movie was very well acted and the story was compelling, if a bit slow in the middle. Ooverall the film did a good job of conveying the unpredictability and difficulty of every day life with a family member with bipolar disorder. (I think the reality is a bit uglier, but this was a film not a documentary. ) Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were both excellent as was Robert DiNiro.

This is a great movie to watch! The dialogue is wittyand the story line is very interesting. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper both did great acting their parts, and so did the rest of the cast.

I liked it. Although I was disappointed when I realized the film didn't contain murders, the discharge of automatic weapons, mocking violence, or torture. I mean, how are they going to get an Oscar without those essential American film elements?

Excellent movie - little intense at times because we have a family member who has been diagnosed bi-polar. It hit a little close to home but gave us insight and hope that things can maybe turn around for this person if they want it to. Seeing the interaction and the conflicts of the son and the parents when he is released was very true and real. Had some humor slid in as well - great great movie!

This movie has all the elements that make for great theater. It was heartwarming, funny, sad and moving. I could, however, have given the writers a few tips on living with someone who has bipolar disorder...its actually a lot worse than depicted in the movie. Grab a good friend, bring a box of kleenex and enjoy!!!

Mental illness is a scary thing to all as is mortality. We tend to avoid the subjects when possible. Silver Linings finds a way to humanize the subject of mental illness in a way that enables viewers to experience the mania experienced by people who suffer from bipolar and compulsive/obsessive disorders. The writing, directing and, most importantly, the acting in Silver Linings is stellar and eye-opening. Bravo to all involved in making this movie.

With all the awards given this movie, I expected something stunning--from the movie to the acting. In fact, I'm bewildered how this movie and especially Jennifer Lawrence, has been picking up awards. A slow beginning, nice acting from Brad Cooper, irritating work from Robert De Niro who can't help being Robert De Niro, a plot that we can all figure out from about the 10th minute of the movie--an okay movie, but absolutely nothing special. All right--the final dance sequence is nice. Jennifer Lawrence seems to be on the way to being another Robert De Niro--capable of only being her somewhat unpleasant self.
We stayed to watch another movie--Quartet--and salvaged our night with that charming show, that had exactly and hour and a half's worth of story in it, and that's what we got. Go watch what the grownups can do.

this movie should not have worked. The story is mundane and the premise is... well there isn't one. But the ensemble may be the best since "annie Hall." In the end everything works and the movie reminds us what Hollywood can do when it trust a filmmaker who trusts himself.

Bradley Cooper plays a man being released from a stay in a mental institution agreed to in a plea deal after a violent episode when he walk in on his wife's lover. From the start the subject is treated with both a lighter touch and lots of back story. Chris Tucker introduces just the right amount of humor into the mix as Cooper's friend from the institution. Robert DeNiro, well what can I say, but he IS Robert DeNiro and he does an amazing job as Cooper's Dad, who also shows many of the signs of the same personality issues. But it is Jennifer Lawrence who shines brightest as a fellow weary traveler on the road back to mental health. She is the spark that starts the changes in Cooper's character in the most unexpected ways. They find their path through a dance competition and their training for it. Its a very well told story of life in the 21st century sure to walk away with Oscar gold.

I usually judge a movie like this on how my emotions were drawn out, and that is why I gave it only 3 stars. It was enjoyable, but the big emotional scenes didn't tug at my heart like some. The acting was top notch and all 4 leads were justifiably nominated for an oscar. DeNiro was incredible. I wouldn't have nominated the movie for best picture and the director Russell probably shouldn't have beaten out Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Affleck (Argo), or Tarantino (Django), for the best director nomination. My date really enjoyed it, though she ranked Django, and Life of Pi higher on her list.

I enjoyed this movie about dysfunctional family relationships. The story line and the acting were excellent. It was fun and entertaining and I would recommend it to my friends.

this movie was built up big, so maybe that's why i was so disappointed. bradley cooper was good, but it wasn't an oscar worthy performance as some have wondered. jennifer lawrence, however, gives a stunning performance and carries much of the movie. robert de niro's small role is hilarious, with too little screen time. the same could be said for chris tucker, though his role was as big as it should have been, despite his great showing. i liked it, but was disappointed, typical romcom.

I loved this movie. It was a little just weird because they were mentally ill. I loved the way the portrayed the different characters, and I loved each one of them. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were amazing. Lawrence will get a Best Actress nomination they portrayed their characters so well with dynamic. Robert De Niro was good as always, and I enjoyed Chris Tucker in this movie. This is a movie you can watch over and over again. It's so funny, and the next couple of seconds it can turn to dramatic hurtful aspects. Watch out for this this oscars season. I want this movie. It is R with about 70 f words, but you just have to block them out, and maybe some awkward situations or scenes. But just about every scene of this movie I loved, it just keeps you going for a 2 hour movie. For sure worth it, and it is a great movie.

Jen Lawrence must really be a speck in the eye to a lot of Hollywood. Not a day of acting classes and here she is tearing up Hollywood. She is a true natural. Brad Cooper was great too, don't get me wrong. Robert De Niro was also great. You can sort of see what comes to a certyain extent, butthere sre just enough surprises to keep you on your toss. The previews don't give much a of a clue to it, but Robert Di Nero as a Philidelphia Eagle's fan gone overboard is a great part of the fabric of this story.
When you are "sane" you never know just how blurry the distinction" between crazy and sane is. This movie makes you realize it may be closer than you think.
I would easily recommend it to anybody interested in this gnre.
