Affleck does a great job directing historical events as realistic as possible. The storyline was excellent and one all should see. I thoroughly enjoy movies that teach me something about history, but often have to filter out Hollywood's biases. That does not appear to be the case with this movie. In fact, I didn't find myself crying foul until the very end, after all the credits had passed, when Carter does a short narration about the rescue effort. He actually has the gall take credit for not only this rescue, but also for the successful -- and peaceful (his words) -- return of all the Iran hostages! They could have left that bit on the cutting room floor. Oh well, just get up and leave when the credits start and you'll be pleased with this movie.

Ben Affleck’s third film as a director, “Argo”, about the 1980 Iranian hostage crisis and the fake film created as a ruse to facilitate the rescue of six Americans, is undoubtedly his finest and most sure-handed offering. It’s smooth story-telling that’s gripping and balanced, offering up thrills and laughs aplenty. That he has been once again blessed with a slew of extremely talented actors is just an elegant spice on top of this superb cinematic treat. It’s a Hollywood winner that is stylistic and suspenseful in ways that so much of the boring box-office sure-bets grossly lack. Even if it lacks some of the intense bite of his “Gone Baby Gone”, it’s still Best Picture nom quality for sure, and a Best Director for Affleck, as well as a handful of other guaranteed nominations. And if I’m not mistaken, nothing seems destined to stop it from actually winning in all of these categories.

We lived through this awful hostage taking by Iran and really enjoyed seeing the entire story. The American public was given little information at the time. As I remember it, the hostages held in the American embassy were not released until after President Carter left office or perhaps it was after he was not re-elected.

The movie clips along at a nice pace, and the tension builds til the last 5 minutes. John Goodman and Alan Arkin bring a little comic relief to an otherwise taut, nail biting, edge of your seat true life story.

This movie is one of the most intense I have ever seen. Even though I remember when the original events took place and knew the outcome, I could not help but be caught up in this drama. I loved the suspense, the humor, and how it really looks like it was in the 70's, even the Warner Brothers logo was old school. The acting was so good, that it almost made me believe that they were not going to make it, even though I knew they were going to make it. I liked the suspense, like in the ending, when they were in the plane and the police were about to catch them. I liked the movie overall, and it is a great movie in my opinion.

This movie was a great trip back to 1979-1980. The cars, sets, and costumes captured the time period extremely well, and those glasses!! The two hours went by very fast with me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Even though i knew the hostages were rescued, the movie had me feeling the charachter's fear and suspense.

Thought this movie was so well done. One of the best I have seen in a long long time. Ben Affleck should get a directing award for this picture. This picture should be nominated on several catagories. Go see it - my husband and I rarely both like the same movies and we did love this one. The acting is wonderful, the story line riveting, brings back so many memories too. Well done flick!

This is a movie based on part of history that I was not extremely familiar with, portraying events of a little known portion of the Iran hostage crisis. The historical accuracy, the focus on letting the audience understand the characters themselves, and the intensity with which this mission was carried out are all displayed thoroughly and with respect to those involved in the hostage crisis. A must see for any moviegoer especially history fans.

Love movies based on true stories. I was very young when this happened and did not truly understand. This movie brought a piece of history back to the forefront and was well done. You could feel the fear of the people involved and the people that put their life in danger to help the six Americans return safely. Would definitely recommend seeing this movie!

Even though I knew that the mission would be successful I was on the edge of my seat throughout this movie. The acting was so convincing I could feel the terror that the Americans were experiencing.
The ending was a bit overdone but I was so caught up in the suspense it seemed very real.

This was a great movie! Ben Affleck was shockingly very good! If the story weren't based on real events, it would have been a bit far fetched and not credible but the fact that this actually happened made it that much more fun to watch. Incredible story! Alan Arkin is absolutely tremendous in everything he does - this time is no exception. And John Goodman as well - he has seriously come into his own. Awesome actor! Go see this movie. It's worth seeing. Very suspenseful and the story is unreal - yet it IS real!

Ben Affleck does another great job. Movie brings back some unfortunate memories of a sad part of our history. Makes you wonder, took care of the Shah and did not realize the possibilities of insurrection to protect our people over there. History repeated itself a month ago In Libya.

Sometimes the best,voices are the ones based on fact, and that is certainly true with Argo. This is the improbable tale of a joint CIA and Canadian mission to rescue 6 diplomats in Iran during the Iran hostage crisis of 1980. The film is shot in a grainy style that invokes the feeling if the film quality of the period. The story line is thoughtful and artfully paced. The tension and fear that must have existed is palpable. This story made me research into the actual event and marvel at the bravery it tookto pull it off. But, it also made me question some of the choices of America. My definition of a good movie is one that sticks with you and this one will.

I know a lot of people don't care for Ben Affleck's work, but after viewing Gone, Baby, Gone, The Town, and now this film, I think that people need to rethink their opinions.
This film took a true spy story that was declassified in 1997 and turned it into a terrific film that relays all of the tension (but, maybe not all of the violence) of the real events. I didn't feel a political tug, either way, by viewing the film--just the real need to get our people home.
Stay a bit after the credits start rolling!

The movie was a little slow in the beginning, but when they were getting out of Iran the palms of your hands were sweaty. Also what really made this movie good was that they kept politics pretty much out of it. They stuck to the story at hand rescuing 6 people.
