Argo was all around fair. At one point it was intense but still needed more action and better sound effect. Ben Affleck should keep directing but not starr in the movie he directs. The rest of the cast was wonderful. Loved Alan Arkin with John Goodman. Would love to see them together again in a movie. The story was CRAZY, in a very good sense. Can't imagine what must have felt to be in that horrible situation. Definitely would have been so blessed, so eternally thankful to have someone come back for me and the others. Mr. Tony Mendez was a true American hero.

You will understand the title after seeing this movie. I can honestly say, I am becoming a hug Affleck fan when it comes to directing movies. This guy really is talented. The Town was amazing. This movie falls nothing short of amazing. Even though I knew the ending, I was still pulled in to this movie and its intensity. It grabs you right from the start. I read a review where someone stated that the level of violence was not well depicted in this movie. I beg to differ. Given that it is rated R and having to make it friendly for the big screen, this movie has its violence. There are some disturbing visuals for some to bear. I guess it all depends on your level of tolerence. I thought there was enough visuals to get the point across. John Goodman does a fantastic job in the flick. He is a very good actor and portrayed his character well. The story is very creative and unique. Because of that, this movie stands out on its own. Gives a true retrospect to violence in Iran in the 80's. We can only imagine how much worse it is now. It also makes the Benghazi attacks on September 11th more intense because the same thing happened. I do recommend staying after the credits begin rolling as you will see some pictures from then that were scenes created for the movie. You will say wow at least one time to yourself once you see how well these actors were cast. They have such a likeness to the real individuals, it is scary. Highly recommended!

Argo, based on the true story of the 79-80 Iran hostage crisis, hits a homerun out of the park. I was skeptical with Ben Affleck as, not only the star, but the director as well. For me, his acting has always been hit or miss. (Hit-Good Will Hunting, Miss-Pearl Harbor). But he is oscar worthy for both roles. The not-so-famous supporting cast is excellent as well. Lots of suspense, drama, action, makes this a great film!

I have never been more on the edge of my sit: and I've seen Jaws!! Superbly directed by Ben Affleck, the story (unbelievable in itself) is narrated with amazing pace. Actors are fantastic and the art direction is beyond extraordinary: it is hard to believe you are not watching a feature shot in the 80'. From the smallest details (like the studio logos at the opening credits) to seamless reconstruction of situations, the movie is extraordinary and enjoyable from beginning to end. Hats off, Mr. Affleck: hats off.

This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. As an audience, we were taken right into that day when the embassy workers were captured. I felt the horror and helplessness of the workers as they watched the hordes of Iranians pour onto the embassy grounds. It made me think of Benghazi and the utter hopelessness and terror our soldiers and the ambassador must have experienced knowing help was never going to come.

Argo is about a specific event of the hostage crisis in Iran under President Carter. It is smart, moving and full of suspense even though it is factual and you know how it ends. the initial reviews were too good to be true...and they were right. this story spans any age (over young teens), but is especially remarkable if you remember the time (i was young). great performances by all, with special mentions for alan arkin and john goodman. the artwork for the time was spot on, along with the attitudes. it's a spy thriller with islamic extremists, with the best and worst of hollywood, great entertainment, and a true story to boot. not to be missed.

Movie has a great theme, plenty of quick action. It's fast-paced so you'll be challenged to pay attention. An interesting look-back in our history, and will make your rethink your perspective on Iran. You won't change from negative to positive, but it will help to understand why they are the way they are.

Absolutely great movie. Ben Affleck did a great job in acting. Despite knowing the historical outcome of this movie it was one of the best movies I have seen. Would recommend to all.

Once you see this powerful, wonderful movie, you'll "get" the title of my review. "Argo" is the sum of every perfectly placed phrase, consummately cast character, and deftly directed scene. "Argo" is the true story of a CIA specialist (played by Ben Affleck) whose job is to extract 6 Americans from Iran who had escaped to the Canadian ambassador's house from the Iranian mob takeover of the American Embassy that resulted in 52 Americans being held hostage for 444 days. Yes, it's a true story. The CIA agent comes up with the cockamamie idea of pretending that he is the producer of a Canadian science fiction movie set in the Middle East who is scouting film locations in Tehran with his Canadian film crew and screenwriter (the escaped Americans) who then return with him on a commercial flight to the west. First, he must put together a production company in Hollywood which consists of a Hollywood make-up man he's worked with on prior CIA projects (John Goodman) and a famous Hollywood producer (the HILARIOUS Alan Arkin) and then purchase an already written screenplay (a loser called "Argo"). The rest of the movie is the minute by minute story of how the plan unfolds. And, although historically we all know the truth about how the grand plan ends, the entire audience was on tenterhooks and burst into applause as the mission concludes. And we understand why we never heard about this on the news.
The screenplay of this movie was lean and tightly written. The camera work and cinematography were authentic (STAY FOR THE CREDITS AT THE END OF THE MOVIE to see why this is so). The ensemble cast meshed like clockwork, clearly directed with finesse and subtlety. Every actor portrayed his/her character with utmost believablity.
Go see this movie. You'll feel good about being American and feel good about our special relationship with our supportive brothers and sisters from the north in Canada.

Best film I have seen in a long time. Great acting along with a suspenseful plot keeps you glued to your seats. No special affects film, this is exciting due to the acting and the story. HIghly recommend.

We learned about this film from watching the Channel 2 French evening news that gave it a good coverage and recommendation. They were not wrong. An excellent film about this nearly forgotten part of the Iran hostage crisis. Thanks to the Canadiens, and the " crazy" scheme of Tony Mendenez ! Bravo !

This story is everything Cloud Atlas is not. It is well acted, has a strong story, is intense, and keeps your attention. The direction and camerawork are excellent. In the end, the story makes sense and there is momentum throughout. The movie story line keeps the audience guessing about the outcome of a harrowing situation and the entertainment value is high. The fact that the movie is based upon a true story makes the experience a bonus. Congrats to Ben Affleck for directing a very good movie.
