Premise is "What if Sully Sullenberger was drunk when he landed on the Hudson" sort of ripoff story line. John Goodman's character is funny initially and then just sad. Denzel's acting is good but it is Kelly Reilly that really makes this film and steals the spotlight from the rest of the cast.
The initial scenes make it something you want to see on a big screen but it is hard to feel good about spending the movie house $ when most is staged in cockpit. motel rooms, a car and a farmhouse.

Denzel and Don deliver in a big way. As a frequent traveler this movie makes you think. John Goodman was funny as a mofo! This movie was entertaining. Definitely this movie is a must see.

So, if he's drunk AND flies the plane like no one else can...Are we saying that: a.) The legal Limits are skewed b.) The story has little or NOTHING to do with the first 20 minutes of the film, or c.) The pilot is a Superhero who can resist the effects of mind altering substances? And the scene in the hotel room...REALLY? He's going to stay 8 days with his friend, but stay in a hotel room on the 9th day...why? Plot device that's REALLY weak!
So...save it for a redbox rental, then you've only wasted a buck.

Having seen the trailer several times I know what to expect regarding the "crash" however it was done really well and even knowing the end result it was very exciting and well done. The rest of the movie was good but I found myself rooting AGAINST Denzel for reasons you will see (not going to spoil). The John Goodman character is funny the 1st time on screen, but not at all the other times. Don Cheadle plays like every single other Cheadle character ever has. Only Kelly Reilly's character is worth rooting for, I believe she carried the film. Enjoyable if you don't expect much

This is one of very few "don't miss movies". The first part is so well done that it takes your breath away.
The middle part takes you down a troubling path. You are thinking where are they going to go with this story.
The end is so beautiful that I (an old white man) and the young black man seated next to me both left the theater with wet faces.
This could easily be an Academy Award for Denzel. The supporting actors were extraordinary also.
There are two brief nude scenes that may offend some. If you let word of these keep you away, you will be missing one great movie.

I thought the movie was excellent. Well written, well acted, and I especially liked the twist at the end. Whip did the right thing in spite of the consequences - something we don't see very often these days. He could have gotten off scott free!
I don't think the language and nuditiy were necessary to tell a great story. In my opinion they were used only to produce an "R" rating to sell more tickets. However, I would, and have , recommeded it to others.

Denzel gives a high-flying (pun intended) performance as Whip Whitaker, a commercial pilot who may have a drinking problem, but he’ll certainly be the last to know. Directed with restraint by tech-whiz Robert Zemeckis in his first live-action effort in more than a decade, “Flight” is a gut-wrenching film with its power grounded in its lead performance by Mr. Washington. He too acts with a restraint unseen in his Oscar-winning work as a bad cop in “Training Day”, instead opting to bare his soul with his eyes. Man, those are some heavy, storied eyes. And they should be. From the film’s riveting opening crash sequence (Zemeckis’ time to shine) to its gripping court-room ending, we take a saddening journey through Whip’s life as it spirals out of control faster than a full-pitched plane in a nosedive. At times a tad preachy, but ultimately satisfying, you can go ahead and reserve a seat for Denzel on a direct flight to the Oscars. And it would be a cryin’ shame to not mention John Goodman’s knockout turn as a drug dealer. Wow he’s brilliantly funny!

The only critic's review I read made me wonder if this was going to be worth seeing-but I actually thought it was very good. Some people (not to be sexist, but my thought is men, particularly) would not find it as interesting after the first part (the plane crash is certainly "jump out of your seat" exciting). But the movie is really about the rest--about one man's descent, finally hitting bottom, and the end--not to spoil it--was very satisfying. Denzel was totally believable, as always.

Denzel Washington delivers a sterling performance as an ace pilot who is fighting with his demons, and is slowly losing the fight. Heroically landing an airplane which suffers a catastrophic mechanical failure, he resolves to clean up, and stop drinking. He manages, for a little while. But Whip can not stay away from the bottle.
Camera work and special effects are excellent in the film, and an eclectic sound track adds to the atmosphere. Solid, notable supporting acting is delivered by John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Kelly Reilly, Bruce Greenwood, and Tamara Tunie and (in a far too small role) James Badge Dale.
Recommended.

Flight...definately worth seeing...kinda like Chester Sullenberger and a Denzel extravaganza. Also appreciated John Goodman who, as he will in Argo, should be nominated for a Best Supporting Actor award.
Makes you think about breathalizer tests for pilots BEFORE each takeoff!

A wake-up call for any high-functioning addict. The irony that what should have been the pilot's shining moment and rise in stature to national hero is ruined by his inability to handle pressure unless under the influence of alcohol and drugs. I left the movie shaken to my core.

Started fine....then it became a sappy remake of the classic alcoholic recovery story (I guess...we left before it was over). Always enjoy Denzel but this was too slow, predictable, and boring.
