This movie is okay, because of its storyline. It does detail a problem that we as a country have with alcoholism It has also made me think twice about getting on a plane without seeing the captain for myself. I really like Denzel Washington, but this isn't his best acting. There are a few scenes, (few) that really show he is a great actor, but for the most part, it is fluff.
Cons slow
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Flight was not exactly what I expected, especially the nudity in the first scene. Also did not expect all the profane language. Lots of F-bombs from start to finish. Certainly an R rated film. The battle with alcohol and drugs was very realistic, especially the denial. Good movie to recommend to anyone who has a drug or alcohol problem but won’t admit they have said problem. I was surprised to see John Goodman playing the part of Harling Mays. He must need the money.
Pros well paced, great story, realistic
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Misleading title. "Flight" would be better titled, "Drunk", or something like it. As a pilot and aviation fan, I went for the flying I expected and Denzel Washington. Denzel came through and about five minutes of film was some great flying scenes/script. But I was surprised the film was really the dramatic morphing of the main character played by Denzel. More reminiscent of movies from the 50's and 60's (except for the sleazed-up and largely unnecessary sexual and language detours) where dialogue and drama ruled. But the story is good and, hopefully, sobering, if you pardon the pun.
Pros great actors, realistic
Cons slow, unnecessarily graphic
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was an excellent portrayal of the havoc that addiction plays in the personal and professional life of a highly functional addict. It surfaced many issues with the inustry as well....unnerving for a frequent flyer. However, as is characteristic of the true Denzel W., the chickens all come home to roost in the end and his conscientious sensibility surfaces as it did in Training Day. He remains true to his soul and his God!
Pros great story, great actors, unpredictable

I could tell from the previews that the lead character had been drinking the night before the flight, yet managed to perform an almost unthinkable act that saved numerous lives.
What we did not know was that Denzel's character was a full blown alcoholic. The movie is really a character study of a man who finally comes face to face with his inner demons and through personal and professional tragedy must own up to his problem.
All in all, a good movie. Parents should know that the film contains nudity and drug use, as well as harsh language.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Most viewers will probably miss the theme of a pilot becoming a scapegoat where money talks and the truth is slanted. Yes, the pilot had alcohol and drug vices and most of the movie time reflected the problem. The movie mixes the pilot's substance abuse with an issue similar to Alaska Airlines Flight 261. One could ask which factors beyond the mechanical failure represent acts of God; i.e., the actions that resulted in minimal fatalities during the crash, consequences to the pilot subsequent to the crash, etc. Perhaps we too should scrutinize the values of society when considering a lesson learned in real accountability.

Having been in recovery for 30 years, dealt with and worked with 1000s of addicts and alcoholics, I found this film to be an excellent representation of the disease of addiction at work. Denial, the wreckage in they're own and the lives of those around them, the enablers, the whole enchilada. Just not being able to do it one more time, finding a bottom and surrendering to it, getting real with the reality of "just how messed up I am". I felt every emotion Washington was portraying on the screen. I don't know what his experience with addiction might be, but his portrayal was flawless in this film. The other characters fit exactly as they should. This film could easily be advertised as a biography of millions of addicts and alcoholics.

Not quite the film I was expecting. I love flying and was intrigued by the trailer. A great performance from Denzel, possible Oscar stuff. But a darker film than I suspected. I will say no more so as not to give away the essence of the story.

This was a pretty good movie. A pilot, addicted to drugs and alcohol, is part of a plane crash that comes with much praise for his efforts landing the plane and saving as many lives as he did, while praise then turns to scrutiny as the alcohol is discovered to be in his system at the time of crash. Denzel is just Denzel. The man is such a great actor. Honestly though, John Goodman stole the show with his limited role. You will laugh out loud more than once when this man enteres the scene. He is hysterical. If you have ever suffered from any addiction, you will certainly appreciate this movie. If you have not, you will have some better appreciation for those who suffer from this disease. There were some parts of the story that I felt could be left out, but I guess they had to fill in some areas. The hearing at the end was the best scene, IMHO. Denzel pulled it off and brought you into his moment with him. Some do not like the ending, I thought it was great. It was different and unique and that makes it more creative to me. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

For adults, the movie was both thrilling and presented a good message on what the consequences are for drug and alcohol addiction. However, the scenes at the beginning and the vulgar vocabulary throughout require leaving your children under 18 years old at home. We saw several families in attendance and believe the parents were either not thinking or did not know what was going to be shown and said.

The movie is excellent with a subperb story complimented by supberb acting, direction and camera work (on the flight scenes especially).
Should be on everyone's list to see. Due to some language and scenes I would not recommend the movie for anyone under 16 which is to bad as the moral of the story is something for all ages and may help a lot of people.

This movie was EXCELLENT! I had not read much about it and had heard about the "flight" scene. But that is a very small portion of the movie. The relationships that were touched from the main character due to alcoholism was sooo real, so right on! It touched my heart, hit home in so many ways where it was truly sad and i felt the pain for the folks that were touched by his addiction. The acting of every character was AMAZING! The 2 hr 20 min movie felt like 1 hr! A MUST SEE!
