Fantastice performances by Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. Interesting screenplay. Wonderful photography. Superior direction. What more do you want from a movie? Not for everyone, but for those who appreciate a realistic film on the order of Midnight Cowboy, it is a must see. To me Shame ranks right up there with The Artist and The Descendants as the best film of 2011.

This movie was soft porn and with absolutely no story. The lead is a fabulously good looking man with a sexual addiction problem. No shock, but the scenes are so slow, it drags to a point where I wanted to move the reel ahead myself. Sissy's rendition of "New York, New York" is excruciatingly slow. I was basically falling asleep! Skip it!

Very good cinematography and dialogue. It has the perfect cast. Yes, it was pretty sexually graphic and in dialogue, but still was a good movie. Not for everyone.

The only thing good about this movie was the music, except the rendition of NY NY.
I walked out after an hour.
I love a great art film, but this was contrived and self indulgent. It was on the nose. There was a great opportunity to make something great about addiction, but it fell flat.

Shame is an adult only, somber, serious look into the effects of sex addiction on the addict and those around him. The movie is stark at times and coldly brutal most of the time. It will likely make most viewers uncomfortable often. The movie is well-made and well-acted .... but is obviously not for everyone. Know that there is nudity and lots of emotional and psychological angst. The last 30 minutes of the film are very extreme and will likely make you squirm (I did). The movie does not present a "fairy tale ending" but there is the slenderest ray of hope seeping in through the pain and the door that might be opened from that same pain. An unusual subject matter and an even more unusual time to release such a serious film .... none-the-less worth seeing by contemplative adults with a taste for the unusual in their movie fare. A rhino horn up.
