I both liked and disliked this movie. I gave it 4 stars because I thought that the special effects were AWESOME!!! The story line is a bit preachy as far as I am concerned but that is a matter of inference on my part. I went with a friend and she pretty much hated it so I think that it is a hit or miss type of movie. If you go, please watch it in IMAX 3D that added to the awesomeness of the effects.

The movie is pretty good. Makes you try to guess how it will unfold. If you see it in IMAX 3D like I did, you may need to sit on the back row, because of the action scenes. The blood shed in the war scenes were blue, from the creatures. Thanks Disney! I am tired of desensitizing, horrible, and sick movies like the dragon tattoo, which I walked out of. Rape needs to stop being a reoccurring entertainment theme for movies. This is what is so good about Disney...imaginary movies that entertain without making you more numb like a serial killer. The first 10 minutes were kind of boring, the set up of the movie. But once John Carter gets where he is going, you will be glued to the screen to see what happens.

Gorgeous imagery and imagination. I haven't had this much fun since I was 12 (I'm 44 now). I enjoyed this more than Avatar because more risks were taken here with the story line. You never know where you're going to end up next. Liked that I only recognized one of the actors. This definitely felt like a Disney film for adults (and older kids). No trauma, but good suspense and action. I was interested to learn that the book was published in 1915 -- I had not heard of it before, but now will pick it up.
