The IMAX 3D is even better. The depth of field is amazing ... New Zealand never looked better.
Good acting, great camera work and direction ... these people really know haw to make a moment.
Lots of closeups for emotion. Freeman was a great choice for Bilbo.

I fully understand why the studio made this movie multi-part, as the book has so much detail that it would be hard to choose which parts to leave out, so why not toss it all in!! I saw the movie in IMax3D There are many scenes that just pop off the screen in 3D but for the most part the 3D is not use as a gimmick and just for depth of field on screen and make the outdoor scenes large and immersive. Warning if you get motion sickness, there are many very fast moving action / chase scenes which take your breath away, I feel that even in 2D motion sensitive people would have troubles with the movies camera action. I don't think that there is a single frame which has not been digitally retouched!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

My husband, son (19) and I went to see the movie and we all enjoyed it. It was a great story with wonderfully colorful characters and fantastic cinematography. Would see it again if I had the time.

Fantastic movie. I am a big fan of Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy. It is worth waiting for 10 years to see another great work from him and his team. Already look forward to see the next part ; the Desolation of Smaug.

Though it was a long movie one did not notice. The graphics, story line and the actors pro trails of the characters was excellent. The time went by very quickly because one was "part of" the movie.
