Watching it in IMAX 3D was worth it, I love the story, the sets, the actors. I wish I didn't have to wait long for the next one. It did not feel like a long movie. I was surprised to get out of the theater at 3:30AM. But it was very entertaining, Certainly a must watch! Can't wait to see the extended version! =D

I must say that this is a great movie. The actors were amazing, and the movie itself looked beautiful. The story was a bit slow at first, but this was understandable, since the tone basically had to be established with this being a prequal. For die hard fans, you will easily notice a few changes made in the story. I could tell that Peter Jackson felt the need for some antagonist to help move this part of the story along, since the main enemy will not appear in the second film. I was a little upset with this new enemy, and how he contributed to the story. Nonetheless, Jackson also stayed true to much of Tolkien's original story. Overall, these few bumps in the road did not greatly affect this movie. As a die hard fan, it felt great to return to the world of Middle Earth once more, and I am really looking forward to the next two installments.

Learning that the Hobbit, the least meaty of Tolkien's saga was to be a trilogy dragged out in a way to maximize the movie dollar, caused my enthusiasm to wane a hobbit-bit. It was a good tie in to the LOTR movies to start the prequel. The Shire, the elves, the LOTR cast good and bad was a delight. The action sequences are in your face as I was privy to the IMAX 3D version. (now hunting down a HFR3D venue). My one criticism of the 3D was the 'crap' flying out in a few noticeable places, rather than providing the depth that makes 3D worth the extra effort. I must admit the new villains are funny and scary all at once. The young Bilbo played by the actor who played .. "Arthur Dent" from the Hitchhikers Guide movie was a bit tough to get over. The story was well developed and ended normally as things do end between parts. It will be interesting if not tough to wait for part 2.
If I had a negative, I would say that the PG-13 may be too violent/Intense for younger kids. The wolves are scary relentless for the most jaded of us. I will wait for the extended/blue ray, 3d/dvd editions and not be sucked into collecting the movies early.

We saw this in IMAX 3D and it was worth the extra cost of the ticket. I have only one gripe about this awesome piece of fantasy. I could have read more of the book than I saw on the screen in the same amount of time. Peter Jackson is great, but my imagination is way better. So why make a 300 page book into a trilogy? Why make a 2.5 hour movie from a hundred book pages?
Money… Sad but true.
I loved the characters and the movie stuck to the novel very well. The stopping point is understandable, but the movie is not “There and Back Again” it is “An Unexpected Journey.” The effects are superb, the creatures quite chilling. All in all I give this 4 stars, taking one away for being too long. If you liked the books or the other movies from LOTR, you’ll feel right at home at this one! Another fantasy movie for the ages! Highly Recommended!

Great movie. If you're going to watch this movie, IMAX 3D is a must! This movie is visually stunning, and the 3D works so well, even for someone like myself who has to worry about his girlfriend getting motion sickness from 3D movies, she thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Great story direction, great visual effects, awesome soundtrack, and even special cameo appearances that will make you giddy if you're an LOTR fan. SEE THIS MOVIE!

The Hobbit gives the fan much to feast upon. The visual, the returning characters, the history behind the original story and then it has plenty of action. It doesn't follow the straight line plot of the book. Yet, as a fan of the movies as well, it gives a layering of an epic feel, providing more to follow in the sequels. I enjoyed the experience in IMAX 3D...it was like returning home with LOTR.
Was it a perfect movie? No. It had some slow points and a few too many additional historical fillers, but as a fan it was great.
As critics will complain, I have seen way too many great critical acclaimed movies that were just junk. This movie was a fun, visual smorgasbord of Tolkien!!
It was a great adventure!!

I saw the midnight showing of this movie last night and we were given 4 limited edition posters of characters of the movie. VERY COOL! First, you have to go into this movie realizing it is NOT Lord of the Rings. No need to compare. They are different types of movies, but also similar in many ways. The 3D was really amazing. Also, IMAX is a must with all of the action going on in the movie. Simply put, you will not feel as if you are in a 3 hour movie. It takes a little while to get going, but once it does, there is plenty of action to hold you over. Gollum was hysterical in this movie. So many times, people were laughing at his comments and rightfully so. In fact, there were a lot of laughs to go around in this movie. Moreso than any of the Lord of the Rings movies. It fits the movie well though. I was imprssed with the movie overall and the closing of the movie brought a loud applause. The movie was very well done and the scenery was simply amazing. Especially in 3D! Highly recommended!!!
