Wow..did I see the same movie the other people did? If you are not a pilot and not a history buff this *might* be an exciting movie to watch, except for the awful cliches. If you are either, or like me both, save your money. I went to see this with my brother, who was a combat pilot in Viet Nam and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, and we were both disappointed. The saga of the Tuskegee Airman is inspiring--awe inspiring--and deserved a much better movie than this. I can "suspend reality" for a Star Wars movie, not for a movie that is supposed to tell the story of heroic pilots who fought the prejudice of the times as well as the Axis powers. (C'mon...I'll bet you no German pilot *ever* said "foolish Africans.") The flyng scenes *looked* computer generated and the script looked amateurish. If Lucas was going to spend all that money and tell the story I wish he would have done it better. Rent Tewelve O'Clock High if you want exciting and moving combat scenes and watch the PBS documentary on the Tuskegere Airman if you want to know what their inspiring story is.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This movie was not only extremely entertaining, but it was also a great view into a part of our history that very few in this current generation know about.
If you watch the George Lucas documentary, "Double Victory", the movie will make a lot more sense to you.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was filled with respect,class, honesty, and action. He didn't sugarcoat the circumstances of that time period which made the impact of the Tuskegee Airmen even more powerful.

This was a wonderful film. I saw it on opening night and the theatre was packed. Latecomers had to search for seats. It was very well acted and directed. The story was told in such a way that you got to know the characters and care about what was happening to them. The aerial fight scenes were thrilling. I would recommend this to everyone. This is a part of American history that has been shoved aside and hidden for far too long. Most of the Tuskegee Airmen who survived the war have passed away. Too bad they could not have received these laurels during their lifetimes.

This was a very entertaining movie. It combined history, drama and action in just the right amounts. I like the fact that the story is true and the actors are superb. I took my children and they loved it too.

Apparently if you're making a movie about black people in the mid 20th century, it's gotta be depressing and teach you life lessons and all that bs. It couldn't possibly be just a fun movie.
I saw the movie and loved it! I laughed, I cried, I jumped out of my chair a few times, and I fell in love with characters.
I am black, and I find it really sad and offensive that critics are panning this movie because it's not "deep" enough essentially. If this movie was about a crew of white fighter pilots (umm.. Top Gun anyone), it would just be a great film that you could bring your family to and enjoy it. But, no no no... it's about oppressed black men, so it needs to... what? Be serious, educational, realistic, blah, blah, blah. There are plenty of those movies. This was meant to be a family picture and naive and hopeful and happy, and it acheived all of that.

"Red Tails" is about the experimental program that was started during World War II at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Thirteen Black Cadets were selected to be part of the Civil Aeronautics Authority. The progam's mission was to train men of color to become fighter pilots for the United States Army.
"Red Tails" is very entertaining with really cool aerial dynamics, cool looking combat and wild battle scenes, but its very sanitized. The pace of the movie is off. There are a lot of holes that aren't filled. The dialogue was campy. Going to war cannot be as fun as it looked in "Red Tails".
There is some beautiful cinematography of 1944 Italy. The movie is worth seeing just for the entertainment aspect. You will probably learn something new that you did not know about the Tuskegee Airmen, but the history lesson that is provided is limited.

This was a very good movie. I enjoyed the historical content and the action was very well done. If you were a fan of Pearl Harbor, then check this movie out! With George Lucas funding the project and Cuba Gooding Jr in the cast you know that your money will be well spent.

It's only half of a good movie. As soon as those dogfighting planes land, the story trips up by skimming the surface of history. Red Tails" has genuine admiration for the sacrifices and achievements made by the Tuskegee Airmen, but they deserve a better commemoration than this. Less gritty than Saving Private Ryan, more squeaky-clean than Captain America, Tails zips like a speedier, higher flyin' Top Gun. No matter its faults, its worth checking out.
