I found this movie to be a great tribute to the Tuskegee airmen. The story was a great look into the lives of the black airmen. This movie was very entertaining and had some good comic relief.
Now for the reason I didn't give this a higher rating. I felt that the story picked up awkwardly with no explanation of how and where the pilots came from and how they came to be pilots. The story was a little choppy throughout the movie. I realize there was limited time in the film but felt the transitions between major events could have been a little better.
With that said good movie and entertaining.

George Lucas did it again! This movie grips you from the very beginning. The acting in the first few scenes was a bit strained, but the character development, and the acting, picks up quickly after that. By the end, people in the theater (including myself) were cheering, clapping, and even crying. It has awesome action scenes, as well as a gripping love story, and more. This is the first ever major production movie without a single lead WHITE actor. Please support this film, and George Lucas' efforts. It took him nearly 30 years to get this film financed. Honor the Tuskegee airmen, and have a great night out at the same time. SEE THIS MOVIE!

I found this to be a very complimentary film to the "Tuskegee Airmen". The cinematography of the types of aircraft and uniforms used at the time was very appealing to me as a history lover and retired Marine. As a war film it flowed excellently, action from start to finish. My wife and I saw it together and enjoyed it immensely, it's a shame that it takes a long time for social changes to filter through society, as the military is a slice of regular society, the prevalent bigotry of the day is so stark. It still exists in degrees today, but its about time we salute those deserving of their sweat, blood and tears they've endured for us generations ago, and still has impact on us today. God bless all those soldiers past, present and future, without them, where would we be today? Thanks George Lucas and company et al. for making this film and telling the story that has been hidden too long. Our country is strong, because of our ability to come together regardless of race, ethnicity or religion, we are all God's children, and when we work together, good things can happen. Excellent movie!

This is a great movie that I wish every young black teen would see. We sometimes forget how hard our forefathers fought to get us to where we are today. Our generation of young people take it for granted and this movie makes me so thankful for what they done, making ways so that i have the opportunity to be whatever I dream.

The movie uses the same formula of all war epics making it very predictable, yet still effective, and very entertaining.
The film was beautifully shot and the special effects were flawless.
All the cast did a good job acting, but David Oyelowo stood out positively above the rest.
I see many award for this film in the future.

I took my children to see this movie and not only were they awed by the movie but by the number of veterans that attended. This movie reminds me of the MASH series it put the human factor in war. Please put your hatred aside and go see this movie.

If we were able to combine the1995 movie "The Tuskegee Airmen" and "Red Tails", we would have an outstanding Academy Award Winner. I loved both movies, but I kept waiting for some of the information that was in the original to show up in Red Tails! It was still worth the price of admission. Taking my son!

I thought the first Tuskegee Airmen was better than this movie. This one was far too predictable. They tried to inject a story line into a movie that should have been solely about these heroic fliers of World War II.

I'm very disappointed to give the movie a thumbs down. This movie was based on the premise that the audience can't handle nuance. That's a shame, since the most damaging bigotry isn't the loudmouth in a bar, but rather the whispered backroom suppression and manipulation. These are darker, more complex themes that require a deft touch.
In The Kings Speech, two capable actors carried the film through intelligent, believable dialog despite a backdrop of drab wartime Britain. The only noticeable CGI were barrage balloons. The writers, directors, and actors in that film trusted that the audience would follow and understand the interplay between the characters, understand the tensions, pressures, and demands, and see something as ordinary as a speech as a great triumph.
The Tuskegee Airmen accomplished much before a single Nazi plummeted to his death. They volunteered, trained, learned, and fought for and alongside others who not not even share a bathroom. They were a huge wave in the historic movement towards equality, a still incomplete movement, but much farther progressed today than in 1944 because of what they did. And something as benign as taking off in a P-51 heading north towards Germany was a great enough triumph. The combat success was mere confirmation of what they already knew. And what we know today. Give us some credit.

I saw this same movie before 6 years ago, "Flyboys". I enjoyed Flyboys more.
Not saying Red Tails is a bad movie, but it almost seems to be a direct copy.
All that aside, something seemed off with the sound, which surprised me for a Lucasfilm production. The explosions didn't seem to have any "oompf", gun fire seemed very minimalist in several scenes. And I was surprised at how little engine or prop noise there was in most of the combat scenes. The tacked on love story could have been left out... I know I'll be fast forwarding through those scenes when I watch it on TV once it is released.
I liked the all black cast. The visuals were pretty stunning. But this movie doesn't deserve a prequel and a sequel though?

As a Naval Aviator I greatly anticipated the opening of "Red Tails." What I found was a movie that was filled with great action (albeit computer generated), horrible acting, and an insanely predictable storyline. Red Tails was a mix of "Glory" meets "Top Gun" meets an elementary school play. The air combat action scenes allowed me time to recover from the vastly undeveloped multitude of subplots (to many to count), and lines delivered as if the actor was seeing the script for the first time (in the dark). For example, after being protected for seemingly the first time by the Red Tail squadron, a B-17 bomber pilot states painfully, "Man....I.....Hope....We....Get...Escorted....By....Those.....Red.....Tails.....Again." Yes, we get it, George, the Red Tails won the war.
...And please don't get me started on the gratuitous racist stereotypes thrown in just for affect. At times I was waiting for the laugh track.
But overall, the action scenes in Red Tails thankfully, mercifully, allowed me to forgive the sins of liberal Hollywood, and I actually enjoyed the movie. And yes... see it on the big screen, the air combat scenes will lose much of their power at home.

History has left out the accomplishments and involvement of African Americans for far too long and this movie is a shining example of the true to life experience for pre-desegregation African Americans! The acting was great, the cast was superb and the storyline exciting, fulfilling, insightful and well worth the seat in the movie theater!

George Lucas and director Anthony Hemingway should be applauded for their WW II historical actioneer ... Red Tails! The story is mesmerizing as the USA military allows the formation of a group of all-black fighter pilots to help America and our allies defeat the Nazis in Europe. Yes - there are times that the dialogue feels a little "cookie-cutter" and there are times the action sequences seem a bit "too clean and perfect in their visual choreography" ... but the story, the historical truth of it and the overall cinematography, musical score and editing are a glorious triumph. A big kudos to all of the Red Tails crew! Magnifique! We can all feel proud of the heroic escapades of the famous Tuskegee airmen of WW II! We owe them much. A big, polished, gleaming rhino horn with a red-painted base up ... up ...up!

This is a really well executed re-enactment of true events. The directing is done exceptionally well as is the special effects, which get better as the movie progresses. The actors in the movie were excellent fits and did an outstanding job bringing this story to life and making it exciting and fun to watch.
I took my wife to see this movie and I plan to take my sons so I can see it a second time. Great movie!

Red Tails is the type of movie that all persons should see, but particularly African Americans. The significance of the movie along with the Hollywood effects, show that African Americans had significant roles in WWII. For once the trailers did not exaggerate the quality of the movie as this movie was really good. Great effects, great true depiction of the story of the Tuskeegee Airmen. And not just another re-hash of the former movie. If you like action, WWII movies I have no doubt you will enjoy this movie. Most of the audience literally stood up and cheered at the end of the movie. I haven't seen that in a long long time!!!

In today's movie market it was truly refreshing to watch a film based on the little know history of this group of brave gallant veterans. At the time America was still a divided society based solely on race. The contributions of these great men has been missing from the historical accounts of world war II for too long. The movie is a valliant attempt at shedding some light on the two wars these men simultaneousley faced, the war against Germany and the war against racism. This film is certainly entertaining and worth the price of admission. Hopefully it is only the latest of many more to come with a great cast and a great story to tell.
