Chris Nolan needs to acquaint himself with Occam's razer. His plotting is so ridiculously overcomplicated as to be nonsensical. Nolon also seems to have forgotten the basic rule of visual storyteliing: show, don't tell. DKR is filled with characters delivering awkward expositionary dialog, perhaps because Nolan realizes on some level that the story can't stand on its own as self-explanatory. This may be the most overrated franchise of all time.
Cons too complex, slow, nonsensical, pretentious
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The ending to best superhero trilogy of all time doesn't disappoint

“The Dark Knight Rises” is nothing short of a masterful end to the greatest superhero saga ever put to film. Layered, thoughtful, intense, and completely satisfying, this is the end that we have all been waiting, and hoping, we would get after “The Dark Knight” blew us away in the summer of 2008.
The film takes place eight years after the events in “TDK”, giving us a cleaned up Gotham, and a reclusive and broken-down Bruce Wayne, who hasn’t touched the Bat-Suit since he took the heat for Harvey Dent’s crimes. But a new enemy threatens Gotham, a villain willing to blow it all away in order to “restore balance” – Bane, a smart villain that also matches Batman in strength, a fresh feeling for these films. We witness a Batman here who is more human than ever, more war-torn than ever, and who is more defeatable than ever. With Gotham on the brink of destruction, Bruce has to summon all that he has in order to stop a threat that is more personal to him than he has ever faced before. The Dark Knight has to rise.
While “TDKR” may lack the break-neck speed, violence, and ferocity of “The Dark Knight”, not to mention the greatest super-villain performance of all time in the late Heath Ledger, it makes up ground in its story telling and character development. Bruce, played to perfection by Christian Bale, is pushed to his absolute limits here, as is his great city, which up until this film has only been toyed with. Here, it is completely and devastatingly brought to its knees at the hands of Bane, played with a brutal sophistication by the great Tom Hardy, who, because of a restrictive mask on his character’s face, acts using his eyes in a fierce and passionate way. Anne Hathaway gives us a Cat-Woman who is not just pretty to look at, as in “Batman Returns”, but is smart, sassy, and in control. Alfred the butler, played with gusto by the great Michael Caine, certainly gives the film its emotional center. If he doesn’t make your eyes water up, nothing will. Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Cilian Murphy, and Marion Cotillard round out a cast that is nothing short of superb. And don’t forget about Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose character, John Blake, is much more important than we first think. Just wait.
“The Dark Knight Rises” is the most epic superhero movie of all time, hands down, in every way possible. The film’s budget and mind-blowing visuals (very little CGI) match the intensely compelling story and the rich characters blow for blow.
As a capper to the greatest superhero saga of all time, and as a film on its own, “The Dark Knight Rises” soars above our expectations, and compels us to stand up and cheer for what one man can accomplish when he is pushed to his limits.
The Batman remains the ultimate superhero.

There were things & moments I truly loved here...but the cast was all over the map. Michael Caine and Marion Cotillard were especially disappointing--I don't know what their problem was. If you're into the political underpinnings of these stories you'll likely be confused at both the chaotic, all-over-the-map "philosophy" of this movie and its serious U-turn from the social optimism of the other two films. It was enjoyable but far from perfect. At least Christian Bale got a lot more to do this time around.

I just saw The Dark Knight Rises and it was a wonderful experience! The other Batman movies were so dark and had such a creepy feel. This one had a fast-paced storyline with well written characters. I loved it, my 71 year old mom loved it and my 24 year old son loved it! I wish all movies were this exciting!

I was Blown away! I could not believe how enjoyable this movie was! Just Awesome! Believe me! I see many movies! This by far this summer and passed summer releases? Just? The best action, special effects, As far as story of comic style, incredibly well done! I don't usually see the same movie twice in a theater? But?? Anyone want to join me!!
Just a note? My heart goes out to the awful tragedy that took place in that theater to the victims and there families! Which I don't believe? Had a reflection on this movie in any way? Just a madman gone crazy in our society...
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, no cons? just awesome!

Christopher Nolan created a great ending for his Batman Trilogy. From start to finish the movie was gripping, without any real slow parts to bog it down. The acting and effects were great. The only real problem I had with the movie was that some of the dialogue was somewhat hard to understand, but it was readily apparent what was meant due to context in the movie.
Highly recommended!

Awesome movie...enough said about that by other reviewers.
Let me say first I have above-average hearing. This movie was dangerously loud, so loud it was painful. Coordination of music, explosions and other loud noises with dialogue was very poor such that conversations key to the story were lost to the viewer.
Recommendation: Wear earplugs or risk damaging your hearing. Perhaps this was a local theater problem, but I suspect not. Our culture has become obsessed with ACTION and EXTREME sound effects, it does so at the expense of auditory health and a good story that can be followed.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great special effects
Cons dangerously loud, poor dialogue at times
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Christian Bale Batman movies have definitely carved their own niche in the telling of the Batman story, exploring not just why, but also how Bruce Wayne became Batman, adding a tad more realism to the Batman gadgetry than had previously been done, and creating villains that have been, at times, frighteningly true to life. Christian Bale announced before this movie was released that he intends it to be his last Batman movie, and while I'd have preferred to have had a few more entries and to have seen what they might have done with some of the other classic Batman villains, if the series had to end, this movie has certainly given it a worthy ending. IMAX added an extra intensity to the action.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The only thing that was risen in this movie was my contempt for blockbusters that fail to meet expectations. On the positive side, Ann Hathaway captured the pure essence of the Catwoman with her relationship with the Batman. But other than a few memorable vehicle scenes and one nice plot twist this film flopped as the conclusion of a series that was in a serious tailspin since the first one. The fighting scenes were absurd and not exciting. Gotham City was clearly New York, which was distracting, and I felt that some CGI could've have given Gotham it's own feel. Bane's origin was told in Cliff's notes fashion and there was no adequate explanation given why he wanted Gotham to be destroyed. He was made out to be a one dimensional bad guy with a mask bent on evil destruction. At times his speech was not incoherent and sounded muffled, which was doubly hard to understand since you could not see his mouth moving when talking. Although the end tried to get the audience excited by hinting at a different direction the franchise could take, I was merely happy this 2 hour and 45 minute dud was finally over.
Cons slow, poor storyline, predictable, one dimensional characters, poor drawn out fight scenes
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Went into this with limited expectations, third and final installment in this reboot, not expecting much. What a great summer flick! Definitely a popcorn movie, Anne Hathaway made a great Cat Woman, JGL as Robin was too much (in a good way), and Gary Oldman finally got some lines. Christian Bale suffered and struggled more than ever, and the scene with Michael Caine almost brought a tear to my eyes. Tom Hardy played an OK Bane, but liked him much better in Nemesis.
Must see, worth the bucks for IMAX. Heck, my much older sister saw it in IMAX too in Atlanta, and even she liked it!
