Martin Scorsese's magnum opus, Hugo,
moves one by mixing the human touch with
machines and how those machines can come to life with the proper devotion and care.
With just the right touches, Scorsese
paints such a poignant portrait of a boy, some dreams, a bit of colorful cinematic history, visiting us in the latter moments of the film, that there is enough going on that should capture the imaginative emotions of most viewers!
Ben Kingsley (Georges Melies) and Hugo
Cabret (Asa Butterfield) head the near perfect cast as the storyline slowly but smoothly weaves this amazing blend of fiction and fact into a marvelously told story that families will enjoy for decades to come! A modern-day Classic!!

My 10 year old granddaughter had read the book, so really wanted to see the film. I went with her as a part of a special holiday outing - but I'm the one that got the special treat! Hugo is a charming, touching experience that teaches as well. We discussed the message as we drove home; that everyone is a piece in the big machine of life, and we are all important. We loved it!

What a wonderful movie....it was a little long for the young kids, but it kept their interest except for a few center parts. Great story and amazing locations....I strongly recommend. It stands out as a classic, unlike the Chipmonk's movie we promised to go see this weekend. It may be cute, but never a classic. This is one of those holiday movies I want to see every year, like "A Christmas Story". There were as many adults in the theatre without kids as with.

An outstanding, awesome film! Definitely a must-see for the entire family! There is no graphic violence, nudity, or foul language in the film at all, simply a couple minor innuendos, but nothing more.

Wonderful movie - flawless. This move was very unique and different from any movie I can recall seeing. Absolutely mesmerizing. The timeless beauty of the cinematography and exquisite scenery transported me back in time. Each of the actors' portrayal of their roles was brilliant. I was fascinated to learn after I saw this beautiful movie that it is based on fact. The story captured the essence of the human spirit. The young boy who played Hugo and endured both tragedy and triumph was truly incredible. The movie is ultimately very inspiring. Loved every minute of it. My 9 and 12 year old grandchildren loved it, but would not recommend to children younger who might find it difficult to follow.

Hugo was interesting, love the visual effects, beautiful scenery, but a little difficult to understand for 10 years old and under.
Towards the end it got very exciting, it could have use more all throughout.
Overall it was good, and in the end the story makes sense.

We went to this movie and knew nothing about it. The commercials for it looked like it might have been OK and to be honest, we only went to this because everything else that we wanted to see, we had already seen and the others, we knew we had no interest. What a very pleasant surprise! This was great! Both my husband and I Ioved it and would completely recommend it to our friends. It has a great story line.

Martin Scorsese at his best. Ben Kingsley's acting is superb. It maybe a little slow for some, but that is necessary for character definition. I wish Jude Law's part was larger but it would have made movie longer. Excellent afternoon entertainment would recommend it. A couple of scenes alittle scary, but well done

Each year, my family and I select a movie to watch on Thanksgiving. This year, Hugo was not top on the list but, on the list. We were amazed at the movie's heartfelt story. What it "said" to children was that hard work and caring goes beyond a paycheck and it does pay-off in the long run. We especially enjoyed the "pure goodness" of the movie whereby two youths of opposite sex could enjoy a friendship based on mutual admiration. What Hugo did for Melies was remarkable. In this day and time, what a great joy this movie was to watch and discuss with my older children! Hopefully, prior to attending the movie, parents will take the time to discuss the movie with their young children (who may become a little bored due to their inability to relate to the movie's relaxed story telling pace).

I didn't know much about Hugo before I took my family to see it last Friday. The promos made it look interesting, but were kind of hard to follow.
Now that I have seen it, I am among those referring to it as "an instant classic." The story, the acting, the sets, the clips from several of Melier's films--captivated me for the entire length of the film.
It has been a long time since I enjoyed a G movie so much!

Hugo 3D had just enough visual effects to really enhance this fine storyline. The acting was superb and I didn't find any drag-time in the movie. It flowed nicely and instead of relying on special effects as many new movies seem to feel are necessary to keep the attention of it's young movie audience it rests on a nice family styled story. Adults and kids alike will appreciate this well done story that doesn't insult anyone's intelligence.

My son and I read this book together and loved it. It is rare that I read a book and then see a film that does as good of a job as my imagination. This one did. The film was beautiful and so well done. I will agree with the other reviews that it was a bit slow, but my ten-year-old was still engaged.

97% on Rotten Tomatoes??? Disappointing. Visually pretty (hence two stars not one) but slow plot and overall a boring film that misses the mark. I actually dozed off for a bit near the middle and had to force myself awake in the hopes it would change soon. By the time the finale came I was disinterested. I don't know what it is with professional critics kissing Martin Scorsese's butt.

I found upon watching the movie" Hugo" that I was watching a professional film and that is what Scorcese delivers here. The plot is a bit slow at times but I totally enjoyed the characters in this film I thought that Ben Kingsley was a perfect choice for the lead in the film and the security guard was great also. I was surprised that Jude Law had such a small part but an important one. This is a movie to see and enjoy

I just took my family to see it and we loved it! My children are all older, the youngest being 14, and they were the ones who had suggested it. I was skeptical at first since we have had such a rash of trash movies recently in the theaters, But this truly represented the film makers art. It has an excellent, deep thinking moral to it, and the acting was superb. Of course if you are part of the mindless masses that rate a movie by "skin" and "blood" you will be disappointed.

The movie was pretty and the acting was solid, but the plotline was thin and most of the movie consists of waiting for something to happen. I fell asleep almost half a dozen times. Sacha Baron Cohen was very funny, and Ben Kingsley turns in a stand-out performance, but the rest of the film is as bland as tapioca.

We didn't read the book. My 3rd grade daughter and 4th grade son enjoyed the movie. My 1st grade daughter became a little bored about half of the way in. I liked that it was thought-provoking for my two older children. My husband thought there would be more action, but that's typical. I really liked the time period and the movie as a whole.
