I won't give anything away. This was a very well done movie all around. The acting was all top notch, but particularly the little boy. When you see it you'll know what I mean.

Time travel movies can be really tough to do. Getting a sense of how actions in the past can affect people in the future is hard to show effectively, and usually it's pretty ham-handed.
This movie did it masterfully. And it did it with a style that was stark, realistic, and poignant all at once. The vision of the even the near future that we see in Looper is not a great one. It's desolate, but definitely a future that makes sense to us - people living on the streets, dirty cities, familiar technology with just a sprinkle of futurism (the flying crop-spraying robot, for example) all made for a great setting.
The plot itself was interesting and understandable, but just far out enough that it was still sci-fi. The acting was outstanding - Levitt was great as a resigned-to-his-fate hit man, and Bruce Willis was amazing as his driven future self come back to fix problems that plagued him in his life. The dialogue was simple but well-directed, and everything flowed nicely from scene to scene.
All in all, this was a must-see for sci-fi fans.

I had brought three other friends with me to watch this movie. After this movie they really made sure that I regret this decision forever. I normally like every other movie because there is always something good about that. But I don't know but I really hate this movie and I am surprised how come people can give it so much high ranking. Even metascore has given it 84/100 (imdb). I must be going insane because there was definitely nothing in this movie to like. And this is my first ever review for any movie, you can imagine how pissed I am.

I was totally floored by how awesome this movie is. It is easily the best movie I have seen in years. Though he has aged quite a bit since then, Bruce Willis delivers his best performance since Pulp Fiction, and Jeff Daniels finally breaks out of his typecast reputation that he has held (at least with me) since Dumb and Dumber. Before Looper, I just found it hard to take Daniels seriously, but he plays a villain masterfully in this film. I am unable to find any fault whatsoever with this movie. The action is non-stop; the story is killer and can't help but hold your attention; the special effects are awesome; the props, especially those involving vehicles such as futuristic cars and flying motorcycles, are deliciously weird the way you would expect them to be in a great sci-fi film.
This movie deserves to be ranked in the top 10 or 20 best science fiction films ever made. When I say this movie is dickish, I mean it is Phil Dickish. If you are a science fiction buff, go see this movie! You'll be in heaven for every minute of the roughly 2 hour run time.

I really wanted this movie to be the next Inception, so maybe I just went in with too high of hopes. For a movie with time travel, it's really very simplistic. I kept waiting and hoping for some clever twist. Even the way it was resolved wasn't so much a twist as just how it was put to an end. I loved how Inception made me think. This isn't a thinking man's movie. That said, it's still some fun sci-fi. The first 15 minutes or so really had some clever and cool sequences in them. I just don't know if I would've seen it in the theater. It would've been fine to wait and watch at home.

They lured me in with Bruce Willis .... and then I had to sit through extremely long, moody and somewhat confusing and over-thought concoction.
The actors did great, special effects were on the dot, but the plot was contrived, inconsistent and, in places, unnecessarily disturbing. They completely screwed up and misconstrued the mechanics and repercussions of the time travel. If you follow the loops' logic, you will see where each loop is incomplete and will restart again. The illogical outcomes made me more unsettled than the intentionally graphic torture scene.
What a disappointment. The plot had potential. I think some interesting side stories were wasted. Try again, Hollywood.

Looper is one of those rare films that treats its audience with intelligence. I loved the storyline (you gotta love time travel films and the "what-if" scenarios) because it has an intelligence plot and story. The relationship between Bruce WIllis and Joesph Gordon-Levvitt (unrecognizable in prosthetic make-up or brillian special effects) is plausible, and the acting is solid. I found Looper to be one of the great new Sci-Fi films and enjoyed it thoroughly. I highly recommend Looper to anyone looking for a thought-provoking (and action-packed) film. See it!

In an attempt to change the future, Bruce Willis must travel back in time to alter the past and confront his younger self (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) where he is a hit man. But in the past he worked for a mob from the future who use the past as a convenient dumping grounds for those they need executed, and eventually they even send back these very hit men once they grow older in order to clean up the loose ends. But Willis needs to find the top leader of the mob and kill him in the past while he is still a child if he wants to save his wife back in the future. Its a riddle tied up in a mystery inside an enigma.
Aside from all the obvious time loop antics, there are some real ethical dilemmas that shape the story. Is it right to do something wrong if it will result in a greater right? Where does rationalization end and justification begin? Its not your usual killer robot from the future hunting down a human. Its an older and wiser version of yourself come back to save your life when you do not agree with him at all. Is he right? Are you right? Is anyone right? And which version of you is worthy?
Emily Blunt brings the loops in time to some sense of meaning as a mother living on a farm who finds herself drawn into the center of the struggle. Jeff Daniels plays the local mob chief sent back from the future.
There are a few slow scenes and the plot demands your attention with all its twists and turn. And you've got to love the special effects guy who made the prosthetics for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's nose to bend like Bruce Willis's.
Its not for everyone, and its on the violent dark sad side. But its thought provoking and that alone is a rare thing.

I realize a lot of people like this kind of thing, but I am not one of them. This movie was so disturbing I could not shake the feeling for a couple of days. The actors are great and Bruce Willis can probably kick butt convincingly until he's 80 but I hated this movie.

The story and or maybe the editing was a bit choppy and stilted. Jeff Daniels part was nearly a waste of his time, though he's a skilled actor- no doubt.
Bruce's character was shallow and unbelievable.
Not the best vehicle for J. Levitt either- and he's the best actor in the movie. I couldn't stand his odd nose makeup. It was unnecessary. I get that he was the younger version of Bruce Willis' character
Emily Blunt was great to watch, plus she's gorgeous and has a hot body.
The little boy, the Rainmaker, was great also.
Anyhow, not a movie I will buy on DVD to watch again in the future.

I really enjoyed Looper it was a really well done movie. I liked the fact that for once the future is not some glorified tech-heavy colorful place...its looks more like the 1970s! I thought it was amazing how good Joseph Gordon-Levitt played a younger Bruce Willis. He has Willis's facial expression down pat it was really surprising and great acting. The storyline is just great fans of 12 monkees wil really find this movie fascinating.

Wow. After picking your jaw up off the ground, you’ll have plenty of thinking and discussing to do when you see the best serious time travel movie ever made: Rian Johnson’s “Looper”. “Looper” sets the bar high early on with a breakneck pace and infectiously energetic atmosphere that pervades the entire film, as Jospeph Gordon-Levitt’s character, Joe, violently kills a body that randomly appears in front of him in a desolate cornfield. Huh? Turns out it’s his job. In the future, time travel exists, of course. But so dangerous is it that it is outlawed, meaning of course that only the bad guys use it. They set up an ingenious system where men are sent back 30 years in time to be killed and disposed of, a method so clean because the person doesn’t even technically exist when they appear in the past to be blasted away and burned. The targets come with a hefty vest full of silver bricks, the pay-day for the killers, who are known as Loopers. Confused yet? Joe lives a cushy life, staying expensively drugged-up and sexed-up when he’s not working, but a mistake by a fellow Looper throws a wrench in everything. The other Looper (Paul Dano) let his target go. Why? Because it was his future self, a pre-determined end for every Looper known as “closing the loop”, so there are no messy ends. The bodies on these jobs are loaded with gold bricks, a step-up for killing yourself. Dano’s Looper tells Joe that his future self warned of a man known as the Rainmaker who was closing loops with reckless abandon. With this new knowledge, Joe is faced with killing himself, and in a bizarre series of events that would take more than a book to explain, ends up in a race against time to stop his older self (Bruce Willis) from doing some very bad things. What’s ingenious about the script is its ability to make us root for both versions of Joe, and yet pray that they are both stopped as well. The subtle make-up job for JGL is Oscar quality stuff, as are the special effects. The world that Johnson has created is simply stunning, and feels so realistic that we are immediately pulled into the mind-boggling loop of time travel without looking back. The actors are solid, and the action is fantastic. I have never seen a more flawlessly scripted movie about the paradoxes of time travel. This film is as clean and precise as a Looper’s kill, and as exciting, original and ingeniously action-packed as anything else you’ll see this year.

I caught the midnight show because I couldn't wait to see it. It was a good movie but fell a little short of my high expectations. First, this is not Joseph Gordon Levitt vs Bruce Willis aka self vs self per se. Sure younger "Joe" is trying to kill older "Joe"...but the older "Joe" is not trying to kill his younger self as the previews suggest. No Bruce Willis main role is to protect his younger self and kill little kids. Also the diner scene in the previews was wayy longer and too much bla bla
Overall it was a good movie. Not "Back To The Future" good, but good enough to stand apart on its own and you will remember it for awhile
Pros great story, great actors, new take on time travel
Cons abrupt ending, did not match previews

This movie started out dark and depressing and only got worse.. I saw all the high % of the people that like it and said this Must be a good movie... WOW WAS I WRONG... I have no idea why any one could like this movie..

Ignore all the questions about time travel, you don't need scientific underpinnings to enjoy this. The acting is excellent (Bruce Willis, who knew?), Jeff Daniels does a wonderful turn. What I wound up enjoying most was the cleverness of the craft. The dialogue was sharp, but almost as noticeable when no one was talking. The filming was by turns Blade Runner and Signs, yet original. Kind of surprising ending, but not important. Go see it.

I really enjoyed this movie. It is definitely worth the price of admission. Some might argue that the story moves a bit slowly at some points, but I really liked the twists and turns in the plot and the characters were well developed. The science fiction elements weren't over the top, but just enough for someone like me who thoroughly enjoys the genre.
Check it out folks. You won't regret it.

Although I had plenty of questions about the time travel part this was a mind blowing Inception type movie, it kept you thinking well after the movie was over. During the movie, I kept wondering if time travel was possible why didn't they do this or that. When I finally got over trying to figure it out I enjoyed the ride. Levitt did great job of portraying Willis' younger self, down to familiar ways of speaking and facial expressions. It did get a little slow toward the end, but wrapped things up pretty well. Great movie!
