Johnny Depp is excellent in this picture. He manages to take what should be a supporting role and turn it into an Oscar winning performance without taking away from the lead character.

Although some parts were a little over the top, this is a fun movie that will keep you glued to your seat. The acting was great--especially Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. The ending was very exciting!

Whenever I watch a Gore verbinski/Johnny depp movie I go in knowing that the movie environment is their world and the actors just live there for the 2 1/2 hour run. Thankfully that world is a visually arresting funny cool place to be. The environment of the lone ranger feels as "dry" as verbinski/depp's pirates of the Caribbean feels "wet". Gore verbinski uses the environment to create a platform for Johnny depp to do his thing. Depp's "thing" is a physical performance inspired by Buster Newton and Charlie Chaplin. Tonto is a role Johnny depp seems to enjoy playing. Lucky for Depp because this film builds a firm foundation for a movie trilogy.

I totally enjoyed this movie. It was entertaining and fun. It told a story about a story and left me remembering the show of long ago that I enjoyed as a kid. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to have fun at the movies.

I went to this because Johnny Depp was starring without expectations of the story line. I was not disappointed. The audience, including me, laughed out loud throughout the movie. Depp's style of humor made this 2 1/2 hour movie end too soon. Can't wait to see it again.

I would give this movies 2-1/2 to 3 stars. Johnny Depp is a great actor but there was something about this movie wasn't that great, which unfortunately Johnny happen to be in. I don't know if the original Lone Ranger old-time show had alot of odd humor (especially from the American Indian) but somehow it didn't fit right in this movie. Johnny Depp (Tonto) had some really believable serious parts that were carried out very well but when the odd humor was thrown in too much it wasn't funny too many times. I don't understand how such a "goofy" humorous movie like this is meant for kids also when there was adult suggested scenes a few times. If they made this movie more like a serious Lone Ranger movie which some random well-carried out funny parts and more geared to adults, it would have been much better. But the ending wasn't that bad at least.

I was extremely skeptical about "The Lone Ranger". I should have heeded my mind.
"The Lone Ranger" is full of miscalculations, over the top action, extreme western-style violence and goof-ball scenes.
The movie is told in a "2nd Person" type fashion. Johnny Depp is "Tonto" a Native American Spirit Warrior who tells the story of how John Reid (Armie Hammer) a District Attorney in Western Times became "The Lone Ranger". The story that is told is like a violent runaway train that doesn't stop for 150 minutes.
The movie will take you in so many directions with so many sub-plots that it gives new meaning to the term "Screw-Ball" comedy. Additionally the movie is way to long and takes to long to get to the point.
There are funny laugh out loud scenes, but they only make-up about 20% of the movie. The rest is mayhem, stupidity and goof-ball nonsense.
Although it is a Disney Production, "The Lone Ranger" is not for children. It is an adult movie.

I never saw a lot of the old "original" Lone Ranger serial stuff from TV so, I went is film with a kind of blank slate on expectations. I have always been a Johnny Depp fan and usually his work speaks for itself. I do not know much about Armie Hammer.
Two negatives that I came away with. This is a Disney movie and a film like "The Lone Ranger", you would not figure to be a film with references to a gruesome act like cutting out a man's heart and eating it, or the wholesale slaughter of an entire tribe of Indians. Otherwise the film was packed with action, some good humorous spots but, sadly not a good solid brotherly connection between Tonto and the Lone Ranger. I think many people will go in expecting to see this and it doesn't quite come across as well as you might think. Probably due to the lack of chemistry between Hammer and Depp. However, what they lack is filled in well by the Lone Ranger's horse, Silver who turns out to be a scene stealer. All in all, not bad entertainment.

Went mainly because of Johnny Depp even tho I thought it would be a little corny...but delighted to see it was very enjoyable, funny and action packed. Could have done without the old Tonto in the museum...that part was kinda corny but still made sense and easy to follow. The little boy was a cute addition. Overall, loved the movie and seems like they left an opening for another which I would definitely go see.

Very different from what I expected. I really like the back and forth between the old Tonto talking to the boy and the story itself. My only disappointment was this was supposed to be occurring in Texas and most of the scenery was from Monument Valley in Utah. The credits at the end showed no filming in Texas.

I appreciated the music. One cannot go wrong with the WilliamTell Overture! I bet kids across the country will be playing this theme music in their orchestra and band classes this upcoming year! I have a 6th, 5th, and 2nd grader. My husband and I did prep them on some history and how we learn from our mistakes etc... We did prepare them for the massacre in the movie by examining other massacres in our history, ie. twin towers, D-day, Pearl Harbor, Gettysburg etc.... Before the movie we talked as a family about the settlement of USA and the frontier etc... The movie did a good job showing different points of view with the Outlaw, the traitor, the American Indian, and the frontiersman. We will continue to ask our kids questions over the movie. If things were right, were wrong, how would they have done things differently to solve problems etc...

Loved this movie! Enjoyed it from beginning to the end. Wasn't sure how Johnny would handle being an American Indian after portraying a pirate for so long, but he did a great job! I definitely enjoyed his version of the spirit world with the horse and the black bird! I usually like a non-stop action movie, but I really enjoyed the way that the action, adventure, story telling and laughter was spread out throughout the movie.

the movie could have been 20-40 minutes long. cut out the first 2 hrs. the last 20 minutes or so was fun and cohesive.

This movie provided action-packed, hilarious entertainment from start to finish. The story moved easily between the 1933 narration of the elderly Tonto and the 1863 time period of the plot. The comedy came in early and stayed late. There are a few more recognizable actors than the trailers suggested. I was most impressed by the number of jaw-dropping "oh-no-he-didn't" moments. This is a don't-miss for the summer.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

Loved the interaction between Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp (just LOVE Johnny Depp!) The movie was funny, serious, silly, had action and a decent story line. Refreshing change form movies that make you think too hard or outrageous Sci-Fi movies. Very Entertaining!

I could not wait for this movie to end. It could have been an hour shorter and it would have been just as interesting. The action scenes were were WAY overdone and there was some unnecessary gore that can scare the youngsters. My wife and I appreciate Johnny Depp's unique acting but this movie is an abomination of a classic.

This was a very enjoyable movie from start to finish.
Plenty of references to the old series and new ideas for this movie. Johnny Depp proves he is a versatile actor who gets into whatever character he portrays. Sequels here we come!

A great movie. Well acted and directed. This movie brought the Lone Ranger story back to life. I can see the sequels already. Armie Hammer did a good job but he was not the Lone Ranger.
