As I have said before, I will never rate lower than a three on this website, unless it is truly awful. I thought this movie, in general, was lost; it never knew what it was, and, although created by the Pirates team, it was relying on the Pirates' movies' success to flourish, which really annoys me. I ask, usually, for a movie to be original and creative in one way or another, whether it be the directing style, writing, art direction, cinematography, etc. I just want to see something different, for the most part, there are a few exceptions, both good and bad. Overall, I thought that they should have not relied on Johnny Depp's cliche character and the Pirates' success for The Lone Ranger. (I like Johnny Depp, I would just like him to play different roles.)

This movie was good all around - thoroughly enjoyable! A bit of an update to that which we "Baby Boomers" grew up with, but in a good way. It had some humor to it which I wasn't prepared to like, but I did. In the "best movie moment ever " category, imagine the familiar, stirring, opening notes of the 1812 Overture sounding and seeing the Lone Ranger charging across the roof of a moving train on silver! It was all I could do to stop myself from leaping to my feet and cheering him on!
I especially liked that it did not resort to transformers or alien creatures to create a story, but relied on the simple good guy gets bad guy formula. This was pure entertainment and I highly recommend it to anyone who ever enjoyed The Lone Ranger TV show back in the day. Bring your grandchildren so they can see what a "western movie" looks like!

This movie has lots of action, great story, drama, humor. Johnny Deppt brought an extra punch to the movie. Armie Hammer was great as a reluctant Lone Ranger. At the end of this movie, we asked each other how anyone could not like this movie, and our answer was exactly. So sad that the professional reviewers were so far off on this one.

This movie is almost two and a half hours long. All-in-all it is a fun take on the old tale. (no new plot here, save for the in depth look at Tonto’s past) Some Texas Rangers get ambushed and only one survives, leaving a Lone Ranger. A dead brother who’s wife loved them both at one point, gives us a great damsel, add her impressionable son, a corrupt train mogul, a scary outlaw who eats parts of his victims, and a pair of hero’s that carry the film with their antics, and you’ve got a good western romp. Depp plays a great Tonto, especially, the old Tonto that starts the flick. My only negative is this: Two hours of s – l – o – w build up for thirty minutes of over the top climax is not that great of a ratio for a film. Just want to say.My husband and I (we are seniors and watched The Long Ranger as kids on TV) attended with two grandchildren ( young adults), we all enjoyed this movie. Especially my husband.
Good story line and funny.
Johnny Depp was fantastic.
Also I would like to take this opportunity to say that the worker in the Yonkers Cross County theater, were all very nice and helpful. I had a problem with the tickets I printed online and they fixed them , no problem. The snack counter guy was very friendly as was the person who was checking the tickets. All said hello and even chatted with me as I waited for my husband (men's room ) asking if I enjoyed the movie.

My wife and I truly enjoyed this movie. We found that the critics reviews which then became others who wanted to jump on the band wagon, were way off base. We left the movie hoping for more. I hope fans will give it a chance and not listen to neigh sayers who like putting Disney and Johnny Depp down. For my money Disney and Johnny Depp always give me great return. Go see it for yourself.

This movie has some very funny moments, as well as some very violent ones. Overall, it was an enjoyable 2 1/2 hours, keeping in mind that there were any number of errors- playing a Sousa march at a time he would have been 15 years old, and having people sing "The Star Spangled Banner" quite a bit before this was actually done. Some of the action is also over the top, but it IS a movie, after all. Not recommended for younger children!

The Lone Ranger is an unexpectedly complicated movie. Being that Disney has its name on it, I was almost flabbergasted at the plot. It addresses greed, hate, destruction and betrayal of the Native Americans in the plains and west, familial loyalty, revenge...quite the opposite of what I expected. From the trailers, interviews, and articles before it was released, I thought it was going to be more about the back stories of John Reid and Tonto and how they develop a relationship despite their differences. There is some of that, but it’s sprinkled and short, and then we're back to the big picture- a history lesson we should all know.
I LOVED the directing. The imagery is amazing. The acting is powerful. I definitely want to see it again on the big screen. I guess I should go soon, since the media is making a big statement on how Despicable Me 2 has crushed it in the box office. I think there's really only one reason for that: Americans would rather laugh at silliness than gain a different perspective on our history. Plus, it isn't a feel-good Disney movie. I'm impressed that they took that risk. Overall, I would give it an 8 out of 10.
As for the comparison with John Carter, it is absurd- like comparing Neil Young to Justin Bieber. I think people are being misled to think it is a boring, poorly-made film. I will own it when it is released on DVD.

Fun and funny. Johnny was fabulous and Armie surprised me by being much better than I expected. The action on the trains was very well shot and exciting. I loved the way the story was told by the ancient Tonto. Having watched the original Lone Ranger as a child of the 50's, this brought back great memories and I laughed throughout the movie at this tongue-in-cheek rendition. I will purchase this on DVD as soon as it comes out.

The main problem with this film wasn't so much the film itself, but people's perception of what it should have been like. While I will admit the Tonto character was uncharacteristic (humor, vocabulary not befitting character, lack of endearment for John Reid). We should remember that the John Reid (Lone Ranger) character, wasn't a rough and tumble kind of guy. He was a man of the law, not a true Texas Ranger. I believe the thought behind his character seeming somewhat incompetent, at least initially after becoming the "Lone Ranger" is not that far off-base. While continuing the quest to right injustices, along with the aid of his faithful side-kick Tonto, he shall hone his skills as a feared Texas Ranger. So this film I believe is supposed to show the beginnings of characters that eventually become the ultimate final product that we are mostly familiar with. Now obviously the stunts with Depp and Silver in particular are definitely unrealistic and over the top. But who's fault is that? It is the fault of the average movie goer that feels if there aren't enough outlandish spectacular stunts throughout, that the movie is dull, boring. So filmmakers are only catering to the very people who are trashing the filmmaker for doing what they did. Wake up people, and perhaps story tellers will actually focus more on story as opposed to thrills and spills. So just keep things in perspective and enjoy what was a good film for what it was.....ENTERTAINMENT... this one is not for the die-hard, has to be completely accurate Lone Ranger fan.

Oops Jerry Bruckheimer does it again! Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer took westerns to a WHOLE new level and redefined "Bro-Mance". Amazing cast, tons of action, a romance and can I smell a part 2! The makeup and hair work is Oscar worthy. It's an absolute amazing movie and these days... You get your money's worth, for the length of the movie. So, take a break before the show and enjoy!

Glad I did. After reading the reviews of the movie, I was so very much not wanting to see this movie, but I went because I love my spouse, and Johnny Depp being in it didn't hurt. Fun script, Depp is definetly the star of the show. Go for a good time, not for reliving the past. All new story line.

Except for a couple of horribly violent scenes, this was a super fun movie. I thought the casting was good and Johnny Depp, of course, was fantastic. It exceeded my expectations.

I wasn't sure what to expect because the critics have not been kind to the movie. Don't listen to the critics. It kept my interest throughout the movie. I enjoyed the action and the storyline. There has been talk about the violence, but I did not see any unnecessary violence; it went with the storyline. It made me smile and laugh and I wanted to clap when I heard the familiar Lone Ranger theme near the end of the movie. Enjoyed seeing Depp and Hammer play off of each other. One of the best movies I have enjoyed seeing this year. I even liked it better than Man of Steel and I saw that one twice. I will see Lone Ranger again and buy it on DVD.

If you see this movie with no expectation that it is like the original Lone Ranger series from years back and accept it for what it is, a mostly comedic interpretation of the Lone Ranger story, then you will not be disappointed. This was very much a Johnny Depp vehicle with his brand of humor and acting style. If you liked Dark Shadows, Alice, Pirates of the Caribbean and Johnny Depp's other movies, you will like this movie. I think a lot of the bad reviews were that people were expecting the original Lone Ranger story, which this is not except in a few small spots. I liked this movie and will buy it when it comes out on DVD.

It was a little long and drawn out...Being a horse owner I thought some of the stunts were a little ridiculous, but entertaining overall. The acting was great.

The Lone Ranger was a good movie but was disappointing. The special effects were great. The movie was not really about The Lone Ranger but about Tonto. I guess that is what you get with the Director and Lead actor being one in the same and also not being the star of the movie. Depp is always good but The Lone Ranger is a non-violent lawman who fails to deliver his role and fails to represent the maksed man.
Okay movie - should have waited for the DVD.

The Lone Ranger was great fun. Great dialogue, fun eclectic characters and johnny Depp's comedic timing is amazing. The movie reminded me of Django Unchained but without the goriness.

Although we use MovieTickets.com all the time, this is the first movie review I have written. My husband and I enjoy going to the movies and were extremely excited about this latest release. Sadly, this was the worst movie we have seen in a very long time. The movie seemed more "slap-stick" Disney - appealing to more of a child audience than adult.
We honestly could not recommend anyone even rent this movie to watch.
