This movie provided some good jumps and what I call "Boo Moments" and the ghost effects were pretty good. However the story on the whole was average at best and the end was very predictable. I'm not a Harry Potter person, and was pleasantly surprised by Daniel Radcliffe.

The acting on Daniel Radcliffe's part was good until the movie got really intense and then the character became unbelieveable. There were certain moments that "Arthur" should have ran out of the house screaming or at least start talking to himself that it really wasn't happening but instead fell asleeep in a chair!!!??!! "Arthur'' was way to calm in most instances but I do not put that to Daniel's ability to act just a bad script. Also, when the dog is at the door barking, the door is opened and then you do not see the dog anymore during the movie. They forgot about what happened to the dog. Too many flaws,

Shallow story line. With limited dialect the movie relied on Daniel Radcliffes emotional expressions to carry the movie. With that said, he did a fairly good job with such a poor screenplay. It's a great movie with very good acting, especially Daniel Radcliff. He plays a depressed guy really well. The actual movie was great. The Woman In Black is a solid supernatural thriller. For me, it doesn't qualify as a horror film- though definitely it felt like a story that would have been written in its setting.
Daniel Radcliffe was believable and completely entered the role of Arthur Kipps. His terror is your terror, even if it doesn't last past the end credits, which is not his fault.
The story of the film suffers from being a little too safe and predictable- though I did enjoy the allusions to Arthur Conan Doyle's slow descent into supernatural obsession.
If you enjoy a good haunted house film, see this movie. Though, perhaps it's better at matinee prices.

I liked this movie and would recommend it. I really liked the acting, the suspense and surprises. Unfortunately, the story line had some holes. First, the good points. Daniel Radcliffe and Ciarán Hinds did good acting jobs.
The bad points: Everything else!... Plot used many times in old 50's B-Movies. "Evil spirit kills kids". The cinematography was passable. The special effects were terrible and extremely lack luster. The story was weak. The ending sucked. And the scary parts weren't scary.. the "scares" were actually of the startling kind and tricks.. not true scare that comes from a great story. See this movie at the 2nd run theaters. Or better yet, wait for the DVD or see on netflix. It's a perfect movie for late night TV.
Final comment. I simply can not believe that Daniel Radcliffe chose this movie as his first movie after the Potter series. You would think he could have done MUCH better. Did he owe a debt he had to repay? Did he lose a bet? It certainly felt like there had to be a reason other than he really wanted the part!

It was a close friend's birthday last night & this is the movie he wanted to see; I had no problem with that, but had some trepidation. Why? Because of all of the unspeakably BAD horror movies of the last 40 years and the fact that there are way too few good ones. Have to admit, though, this one pleasantly surprised me. Daniel did a pretty good job in his role, as did Ciaran Hinds (Julius Caesar in HBO's "Rome," among other film roles). The story is actually pretty original, although to some it would fall into the more generic category of the classic haunted house film. There are more than a few "gotcha!" moments that will have you dreading what's coming next, which adds to the very pervading sense of creepiness surrounding the story. And without giving anything away, I really liked what they did with the end of the film...again, something we don't see nearly enough of in the majority of horror films.
So why only 4 stars? There were just a few scenes in the film that were way too hard to swallow...specifically, the dogs at dinner time, and Radcliffe's diving into the marsh. Pushed the envelope a little too far, and even in horror movies, there's still credit to be given when the story doesn't stray TOO far from rhyme & reason.
Other than that, I'd say, yeah, definitely a movie worth seeing.

The Woman in Black immediately had my attention for the sole purpose of Daniel Radcliffe. I'm sure this holds true for a lot of other people who saw this movie opening night. As a fan from the Harry Potter series, I wanted to see him hold his own and he did incredibly well. This film had the whole audience silent,screaming and having bundles of fun. I enjoyed every minute, even though I was a bit afraid to go to sleep at night! Daniel Radcliffe proves he is wise beyond his years, and his beautiful eyes and strong willed acting do their job. Beautiful acting, cinematography and (literally and figuratively) a haunting story proved this film to be a great one. I recommend it highly, but don't see it alone!

This movie was definitely one of the best movies I've seen in a while. I was so scared I had my hoodie over my eyes during most of the movie (well, the parts I knew would be scary). I read the book and knew the story, but I was still very scared! They changed it around a lot in the movie version so I didn't exactly know what to expect. Great job to Daniel Radcliffe in this movie!

This movie was outstanding! The ending was fantastic - not your every day hollywood nonsense! A story true to itself from start to finish. Mr. Radcliffe was excellent in his role as a man you feel for from the very beginning. Truly the best money I've spent at the movie theatre in quite some time.

I am a scary/horror movie lover, and I have to say that this one ranks right up toward the top as one of the scariest ones I have ever seen!! Daniel Radcliffe was terrific in it. You will scream!!
