Finally we know how and why the 'little' wizard became the big voice behind the curtain. Instead of anticipating the incredible wizard and being disappointed, we start with an ordinary wizard and witness him doing something impressive!

Very enjoyable. Have to pay attention to the subtle references within the movie. This is not the storyline of the Wizard of Oz, nor Wicked, so keep your mind open and just enjoy.

This movie had all the hype of a big movie but unfortunately doesnt make the cut. Classic looks good in the trailers but not so good in full form. first of all James Franco looks high the whoile movie which didnt help his acting at all. Mila Kunis didnt seem to understand the role she was playing and seemed a little over doing it at times. overall it just didnt have that quality a film that you would expect from a big name movie thats been around forever. Save your money and wait for the DVD

Well its hard to build an extension or any kind of connecting material to what many people of several generations now consider to be quite certainly one of the greatest movies ever made. Most of us watched the wizard of OZ when we were small children and as a result its lasting impression left it in quite a lofty and beloved place. I think most of us have forgotten 1985's return to OZ..and rightly so. That being said..This really is a great movie and was worth a trip to the theater. I found it a little long winded and could have been chopped down some. There WERE some very magical moments but they came and went..and THATS where this one falls short..To constantly keep you enamored with wonder is what this film needed. Regardless!..This wizard DOES manage to put on one FANTASTIC show!

Oz the Great and Powerful is a great film. The similarities to its inspiration are well taken. The BW opening and transition to color is spectacular. While you come to find the Oz isn't the most trusted guy around he develops into quite a hero. The witches however were the best. Mila Kunis was spellbinding. Her transition to the "Evil" Witch of the West was very well done, but her beauty cannot be hidden behind a green complexion and a nose that would make most surgeons itch.
Overall Oz was a lot of fun. the colors and action were astounding. I will recommend this to anyone seeking an escape from reality. Sitting in the the comfort of the LUX seating tops off a great evening out.

A very interesting story about how the characters we know came to be. Although this movie won't be a classic (as its 1939 counterpart), nevertheless, it is an entertaining story. If you want to relax and be entertained for a couple of hours, go see it and have some fun. If you want to be critical of a movie in comparison to a classic, go see it and complain! I got my money's worth of fun!

For a high touted Disney movie, it was a little less than what I expected. The special effects were pretty good, the color and art (CGI scenery) was at the "Disney" level. The Wizard & Wicked Witch characters were a stretch for Franco & Kunis. I like both, but they were certainly mis-cast for these roles. I felt that was where the movie lacked most was in their presence. I still enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to others but don't see it as an epic success as many other Disney movies have become.

Overall very disappointing film. I really expected much better from Disney. The acting is AWFUL!!!! The CGI and story line were really bad as well.
The 3D started out OK but then it just looked like they ran out of money towards the end because very few 3D special effects towards the end. Also, for having so many witches it really could have had a lot more magic, story line, and excitement. Just left me very bored and disappointed.

Definitely loved this movie in 3D on the big screen. This is NOT a remake of the classic. Rather it is a different story with some familiar characters. Just enough special effects to enhance rather than detract from the story. The sets were deliciously colorful.
Just like the original, there are those scary monkeys and some violence that little ones might not do well with, but Seniors on down to school-aged kids can enjoy this.
Makes me want to read the other Frank Baum "OZ" books! :)

Like other reviewers, I agree that visually everything was truly stunning. And the china doll was pretty original idea. But the flying monkey had really dopey lines, and there was a scene with dialogue that had that 1-2-3 punt, set, spike volleyball-type move you should ONLY be forced to bear in sit-coms, not multi-million dollar movies. The biggest problem of course was James Franco, since he had such an extremely high percentage of on-screen time compared with the other characters. I thought he was pleasant to watch in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. But I think that was because the role fit his own personality much more closely. In fact, like most actors whose success seem to outweigh their talents, he's kind of the same person in everything. And here he was required to go beyond that for this role, and he just couldn't do it. He doesn't have the presence and distinctive air necessary to make at least me believe he is the Great and Powerful Oz.

This will be an epic film and should be put on your "must see" list. It should have a stronger rating, other than PG. The story is rather on the dark-side, and not the cheerful, colorful images of the beloved Wizard of Oz,

Quite a technically wonderful movie...new video technique and the sound is exceptional...set and background visually captivating...costuming, hair and makeup were beyond words...story was entrancing as were the characters throughout...BUT...couldn't put my finger on something a bit off...decided that the actors were not proficient in working with a green screen!! That's all I will say...can't figure who to blame for the disconnect, but if it were a seamless film without glitches in interaction with characters and other actors, I would give an almost perfect review. Still worth seeing, just for all the imagination that went into it via story and technically.
