I felt like a kid watching The Wizard of Oz for the first time. The children of today also got that same magical feeling that the original film gave. The story line was wonderful how everything was brought together and tied both films in harmony. I loved the new characters and would like to see another spin from this. Overall its a new Classic!!!!!

I was so impressed how good the OZ the Great and Powerful was, the story line was so good, the special effects are excellent they make Avatar look ok. The costume design was amazing. The movie was so good I wanted to post a movie review for it (Which I have never done for any movie). I have been telling everyone to go see this movie. I'm sorry I didn't see this movie in 3D. I'm going to buy this movie when its available.

Honestly this movie was not as good as I hAd hoped it would be. All good actors. It started very slowly but got better but The wicked witch was just overdone.

took three 9 year old girls and they loved it. I liked the prequel idea and we are fans of the original. Nicely tied in.

The writers really messed this up royally. The cinematography was really well done, the actors were all A-List but they were not functioning as a team. They all appeared to be trying to outdo each other. No cohesive directing, no writer's creative juices. James Franco came across as a real Cad, like he was supposed to but he was very shallow. Glenda the Good Witch was vapid and lifeless and should have been as powerful as her evil sisters but came across the weakling. The two characters that had panache were Nuk and the head Tinker. Needs a complete re-write with better writers. Please get James Franco to SHAVE. He looks like such as doofus.

The movie was excellent in providing a history of how the Wizard of Oz became the Wizard. The history of how the character became the Wicked Witch was inventive and very believable.
The movie was completely entertaining and the visuals were beautiful. Well done!!
As for small children, the effects surrounding the transition of the Witch were rather scary and probably should be viewed by older children. Our daughter is 8 years old and was afraid to go into the dark after seeing the movie. She wasn't terribly brave prior to the movie but definitely was affected by the scene ... even with hands covering her eyes.
All in all, a fantastic movie!!

It was great seeing the Wizard of Oz from Oz's perspective. The colors, the costumes, the music (yes the music) all wonderful. A must see!

Just like the title says, this was good solid fun. Won't win any academy awards, but a great outing for the family. Feels like a legitimate prequel to the Wizard of Oz, and had some interesting twists. The origin of the Wicked Witch could have had a better story, but it was still a good flick.

I don't normally go to see these types of "how did the character become that way?" movies, but this was a satisfying look at what happened before Judy Garland crash landed in Oz. I would not take young kids to see it (the flying monkeys were amped-up scary), but I wasn't bored and my fellow audience members were also enjoying it. The special effects contest to come up with the most awesome stuff is getting stale for me, and I found some of the camerawork dizzying; however, characters were well done and believable. The best character is actually the china girl rather than Oz himself, who comes off as a few accolades short of a hero in his own mind but redeems himself anyway. Worthwhile.

We took our 9 year old granddaughter to this movie . We stayed through most until 3/4 of the way through. It got too intense and she wanted to go home because she was very scared. I really wanted to see the rest of it.

Oz-z-z-z-z-z-z-z! James Franco acted like he didn't want to be there. Complicated plans created and executed at whim(yeah I know, it's a fantasy). In-Your-Face, over-the-top CG that tries to earn points for the shear amount of it. Entertaining for minds of 12 and under. Carefully watch the ORIGINAL "Wizard of Oz" which will always be a classic. It was done right, even by today's standards. Can you say the same for Oz-z-z-z? Oh yes, we've been set-up for a sequel... Oh boy!

I took my grandson who is 11 to see this movie. His friends had told him that he wouldn't like it. They were wrong, he loved it!! He has only seen parts of the Wizard of Oz and was worried that he might not understand this one without seeing that one. He told me he got it and that it didn't matter that he hadn't see The Wizard of Oz. I, on the other hand, had seen The Wizard of Oz. This movie helped me understand more about why the wizard wasn't much of a wizard, where Glenda came from and why the wicked witch was like she was. It was a most enjoyable movie for us both! We recommend it.

I would highly recommend this movie to everyone, if you are a "Wizard of OZ" fan, this is a must see movie. But, I highly suggest, if you have kids younger than 10 years old, don't take them to see this movie, it will be over their heads and maybe real scary for them in parts of it. I saw one mother take her daughter who looked to be about 5 or 6 years old out because it was too scary for her.They did come back and finish watching the movie. This is one movie I will be getting when it comes out on DVD later this year.
