Being someone who rushed home after school to watch Dark Shadows as a kid, I really was looking forward to this movie, and it didn't disappoint. Depp is fabulous as usual as was the rest of the cast. I enjoyed that it was set in the 70's and it had all the right stuff.

Everything from beginning to end was all you could expect from Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. As Individuals they are wonderful but together they bring MAGIC to the screen. Worth the price for the tickets.

I thought it would be more comedy driven due to the trailers, but it had a combination of comedy and horror. Johnny Depp was excellent

I really thought I would be disappointed when my husband suggested we see this move. I was pleasantly surprised. It was funny. Johnny Depp was awesome. All the actors were very good. Highly recommend. Go see- you will not be disappointed.

Since I was a fan of the old series, I was curious to see how Tim Burton would re-do it. Johnny Depp was wonderful (as always) and played Barnabas to the hilt. You had to really pay attention to all the nuances and dialogue, because that's what made the movie. The special effects and lighting was classic Burton, but every one of the actors was spot on for their character. The theater was laughing so loud in spots that you couldn't hear the dialogue --- I wished for a "rewind" button to go back to hear some of it again. This is one I'll purchase as soon as it's out. Very well done --- and I was so glad to see Michelle Pfeiffer is such a great role. She's always been one of my favorites and I'm so glad to see her back. Oh yes --- what a coup to have Christopher Lee as the "head sea captain" --- he would make me shudder as a kids in his Dracula portrayals. Good to see him in the cameo. Kudos to Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and the marvelous Helena Bonham Carter (such a wonderful actor), and of course, Michelle Pfeiffer. I highly recommend to see --- and probably see again to catch what you missed while laughing. You did the series well, Mr. Burton. Congratulations!

Tim Burton did not disappoint! He took the classic series and gave it an updated- spoofy spin.. that entertains from start to finish!
Fun, comic, yet still beholden to classic Dark Shadow yarn!

I might biased because I'm a fan of the Barnabas Collin s Character played by Johnny Depp--however I was thoroughly entertained and delighted with this movie. It's always fun to see a 200 year old Vampire try to process and adapt to trappings of the modern world like cars, technology, fashion, lifestyles, sex, drugs and rock and roll. Good story, and it made me feel like I want to see the sequel...!!

I had been waiting eagerly to see this movie, so I ran out on opening night with great antication. I was sadly disapointed. The movie itself COULD have been funny and cute, but it missed the mark. The best portions of the movie were in the trailer. I was looking for Beetlejuice type fun, and while it had a few good scenes, the majority of the movie left me bored and waiting for the "good stuff" to happen. The make-up looked like something put on by a fifth grade haunted house. The acting (even Johnny Depp, whom I usually Love) was very lackluster. There is a pretty hot sex scene and some steamy sexual innuendo but the scene is so intense it makes me wonder how they pulled off a PG-13 Rating. I am not a prude, I don't mind curse words or sex scenes, but I don't think I would feel comfortable with a 13 year old seeing this. WOW! All in all, the movie just lacked fun. The last 10 minutes were the best part of the whole movie. There was supposed to be a great love story but you never figure out quite why these people would have devotion "til death" with one another. There are some fun 1970's jokes and a plethora of vampire jokes. The McDonalds joke is pretty funny, but it is over after one line and never brought up again. Johnny Depp is basically Edward Scissorhands in this movie by the way he moves, but the comic timing and hillarious banter is just not there. I was just SAD, and this movie is definately NOT worth $10 to see. Wait til it hits redbox, which won't be long, or better yet, wait til it's free on Netflix. Very disapointing!

Very slow, a little boring, with a thin story line. All of the funny scenes were in the previews and I often found myself (and others in the theater) checking the time. Some of the cinematography didn't make sense as it didn't help to further the movie or add anything to it except time. It was overall disappointing although the acting overall was very good and the makeup and effects were as one might expect for a Burton film. If you have nothing else to do or nothing else to see, then why not spend a couple of hours out, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see this.

Once again, Johnny Depp has portrayed a character so well that you do not think of him or his other roles as you watch the character. The story was refreshingly very original, humorous, and unpredictable. The twists will keep you on your toes and are often presented in funny ways.

Most enjoyful evening in the cinema. Dark Shadows movie was very well done! I loved the orginal television series and the cinema version was a great remake. Really liked the way the original story was brought to life on the big screen and the ending was perfect lead for a sequel. Hollywood........Please, please, please do create part 2. This is a must. Johnny Depp was suberb in the lead role!!!!! Michelle Pfeiffer gave an awesome performance as well. This is a well spent 2 hour viewing. Wish the tv studios would get the bright idea to reshow the original series this fall.

This movie is high on concept, but mediocre on execution. The direction and setting are great, but the story is all over the place and I found myself losing interest regularly. Unfortunately, this movie does live up to its potential.

I was completely entertained by this movie! It had it ALL: clever story, quirky characters, hilarious moments, and a plot that unraveled!
Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer performed to perfection! While Tim (Planet of the Apes) Burton proved that he is an old hand at making a classic TV series into an engaging motion picture!
Two thumbs up and a HOOT HOOT!!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great costumes & makeup

Actually, it was better than I expected. I started to skip it, because I like Depp okay, but I'm not a huge Tim Burton fan. Just not my cup of tea, but he's good for that genre. Anyway, I decided that since the show used to scare me as a kid, and some of the remakes as comedies I've seen have turned out very well, I changed my mind and decided to go. What I saw was a slightly spooky, funny dose of escapism. Depp maintains the 18th-century mannerisms and speech throughout, while adapting to 20-century life. Of course, movies like this aren't Oscar material, but they're not designed to be, and should be enjoyed for what they are.

Sadly, I am not old enough to have seen the original series during it's first run on television. I have however caught a good many of them during reruns. I fell in love with the show, the characters and the story. With that said, I praise Tim Burton and the cast for the amazing job they did bringing this classic gothic soap opera to the big screen.
It had all the elements of the T.V. show, love, comedy, horror and camp. If you enjoyed the original show, be it during it's first run or reruns, you will love this movie.
I will definitely be seeing this movie again very soon!

People who think Tim Burton may have "lost it" couldn't be more wrong. He is back and in his zone with Dark Shadows. The movie he put together is brilliant, that's the only way to put it. Johnny Depp shines in this, as always. He becomes Barnabas Collins. There really were no weak characters in this. It is an all around great film...a must see!

An adaptation of an old, antiquated TV show that feels fresh and alive in large part because of its star. Like its root '66 TV show Dark Shadows, this film is a heady mix of vampire, werewolf and witch ingredients all bubbling away in a cinematic cauldron. Whether it works is a matter of taste, but the fact that Burton's revisit unearths enough fun while feeling like four films in one is testament to the source's seductive bloodline. A must see.
