The movie was great. The actors did a marvelous job with the comedic scenes and the drama scenes. I enjoyed the story and the way the movie played out. This was a different kind of horror movie with comedy and drama all in one. The movie is a must see.

The movie was alright. Johnny Depp was excellent. I think those of us that were around for the 70's and remembers Dark Shadows will like it a little more.

I used to watch this TV show when I was a kid and loved it. The TV show was much more serious, paced like a soap opera (i.e. slower), and had less special effects. Plus there were plot changes from the TV show in the movie.
If you're looking for a real horror movie, this is not it. If you're looking for a real sci-fi/fantasy movie with spectacular special effects, this is not that either. If you're looking for a lot of drama and to have your emotions really roiled up, this is not that either.
If you're looking for light entertainment, not quite, but almost, a spoof of horror movies, this could be your movie. For instance, if you liked "Rocky Horror Picture Show," you might like this one.
Fundamentally, this movie is silly, not the kind of movie that makes you roll on the floor laughing, but silly. The sex scene is especially silly.
The music is cool. I just downloaded the album.
You can tell that the actors are really having fun with these silly roles, as well.

i regret to say that I didn't think the movie was as funny as the commercial previews made it out to be. As usual, Johnny Depp was great and the jokes and his manner was funny. I didn't think the movie was "hysterical" like it was said to be.
Also, one big complaint was that the dialogue was too quiet. The background noise was so loud that even when it was quieted down for dialogue, it wasn't quiet enough. It was very hard to hear and understand the movie.

We really enjoyed this movie. I didn't particular enjoy the soap way back when, but I like Johnny Depp movies so really wanted to see this and was not disappointed. I like Johnny Depp's development of the character Collin Barnabus so funny in parts so sad in others. Michelle Pfeiffer how could it be better? This is a great way to spend theatre time - enjoy.

I was so excited to see this movie. Another disappointment. The trailers were the funniest pieces of the movie. It plods along. I love Johnny Depp, and Michelle Pfeiffer, but not this movie. This is why I don't go to the movies more often. The trailers are over-hyped - looks good, then I get to the theatre and the movie is the pits. I'd come to the movies more often if the quality was there. Next time, instead of wasting around $40 on tickets and snacks - I'll wait for pay-per-view for $5 and much cheaper snacks at home.

I did NOT see the TV program so I had no real idea what IT was about.
The movie was funny and campy. The acting and sets were great. The story ran along fine. The end was just thrown together with a lot of pieces left dangling and other things suddenly thrown in. That was a slight let down. A different ending would have been better.

I went with my sisters and and niece to see this as my sisters and I watched the show after school every day. We all liked the film more than we expected to like it. It was a little campy but not overboard, it had a storyline that did not clash with all of the beautiful photography, set design, special effects and acting. I wish the scenes with some of the original tv cast was longer, we only caught a glimpse of Quentin and the original Barnabas

Johnny Depp is interesting but the whole plot is so shallow, doesn't really let you develop a care for any one member of the cast, so when they are harmed it is meaningles. Father son relationship quite ridiculously sad. No reason whatsoever for the " psychiatrist" to perform sex act on Depp, or to be harmed later . All around dull. Not exactly a drama, not a comedy, not a horror. Just enough gore and sex to rule out young audiences but not enough of anything to draw adults. Very disappointing.

Talk about a campy, fun & hilarious movie! I started laughing from the beginning. Being a follower of the original series back in the day, I absolutely loved the movie. Loved the innuendoes, and those plays-ons from other movies! Tim Burton is brilliant, and any movie where he & Johnny Depp team up is always wonderful. Their styles just click. I hope those two do more movies together! Enjoy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The cast was great and so was the acting. I watched the show faithfully as a child and was so excited when I saw there was a movie coming out. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have once again collaborated and made a great movie. Of course it did not exactly follow the show, but how could it?? The show ran daily for 5 years. They have definetly done justice to the show in my opinion. I would see this movie again. I just wish I had a better look at the four original members from the show. My daughter took me to the movie and dinner for mothers day. (on Saturday) What a great mothers day gift!!!!

It was pretty good. I liked it, it was kind of weird though. Johnny Depp did a great job, as usual(he was pretty funny). The story was good. It was funny, it had some romance in it, the special effects were weird, but good. It wasn't something to anticipate or admire even all that much. But overall it was a decent get away to the movies and wasn't that bad of a movie to go to.

An entertaining flick that lost steam 3/4 way through and at that point, reminded me of other movies I've seen. I'm glad we saw it in the theatre, as much of what was good about Dark Shadows--the world of the movie, its style, effects, etc.--would have been less spectacular on the small screen. Johnny Depp rocks, as usual, along with the rest of the cast. Great acting. Great music. Great everything. Just light on story. Or at least a well-developed, sensical story. Overall, if you're willing to suspend imagination and just go with it, you'll enjoy it.

I fondly remember watching Dark Shadows every afternoon after school. There isn't a thing that evokes fond feelings in this movie. The beginning had a glimpse or two of 'camp' but then the movie began to take itself too seriously and lost its appeal.

I am totally disappointed in this movie. My husband slept through it, my daughter was totally bored and I was so displeased. Dark Shadows was a wonderful show that I watched faithfully as a child. I think this movie did a miss service to the very essense of the Dark Shadow show. Even John Depp couldn't make this show enterrtaining. Should have ask for my money back! Save your money and watch it on HBO or Starz.

From seeing the preview at a prior movie I was really looking foward to seeing Dark Shadows. I was definitely not disappointed....I enjoyed the acting and the storyline and was engrossed in the movie from beginning to end. The only thing I did not enjoy was when the electricity went out in the entire cineme complex in the middle of the movie forcing us to sit in an emergency lit cinema staring at a blank screen for 10 minutes until the power came back on. I'm not sure why others who went to the movie were expecting a comedy as the original series was a dark soap opera...I guess they are not familiar with the original series from the 1960's/1970's.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

As always, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton give us a mixture of laughs and a great story line. As a fan of the original show, I enjoyed the story. Unfortunately it seems that the commercials on TV give away too many of the really good lines. I wish they would limit the commercials from giving away the good stuff. They are truly "spoilers". The music was awesome; I found myself singing along (quietly ;-). Very good all together. Seeing "Ms. Cooper" was hysterical! All in all, a very funny rendition of what was, back then, a very scary soap. :-)
