The movie was slow and uneventful. I looked forward to seeing Johnny Depp but his role was inadequate. The story plodded along and just never seemed to get a jump start. The ending was poor as well. The language and some of the subtle jokes were not that funny. No appropriate for children.

I am a huge Dark Shadows fan and have been looking forward to seeing this movie. It was a nice valentine to the orginal series. Loved seeing Jonathan Frid, David Selby, Lara Parker and Kathyrn Leigh Scott as guests at the party. Wish they had been on screen a little longer. I much perfer Lara Parker's Angelique to the woman in the movie. Can't wait for the sequel. There is a lot more story they can work with. Would have loved to hear some of the orginal theme music used in the movie. That would have been fun!

Simply wonderful. I never saw the original series, but You really don't need to have since this movie stands on its own merits and is quite entertaining.
Depp is a master of course - its worth it to see him act out this creature. His lines are great especially if you understand a little proper English. The movie is both dark yet light - having a bit of everything and special effects that will shake the ghost out of anyone.
Sad, funny, special effects, surprises throughout - its a great time at the movies.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great movie-making

I never saw the TV show, so I had no pre-conceived ideas about it. I went in hoping to get another Depp and Burton great collaboration and that is exactly what I got. It was very well made and the story-line was easy to follow. The only minor thing that bothered me was the few times the actors were traveling and the scenery was a little blurred. I look forward to purchasing the DVD so I can watch the extras.

I used to run home to catch Dark Shadows and I used to read the gothic comic books as well. This latest Burton/Depp debacle ruins every memory I had of the fine franchise.

I really enjoyed the movie. I took my 73 year old mom, 24 year old daughter and myself to see the movie. Of course I am a Dark Shadows fan. There is one place in middle that slowed. Really liked quest spot of originial Barnabus, Angeleque, Victoria Winters and David Shelby (can't remember his role but remember him well). Didn't care much for the Angeleque in new movie. Don't like Barham woman much but she did a great job as Dr. Hoffman. Hope there is a sequal...I'd go see it. My younger daughter didn't appreciate the movie much since she isn't familiar much with the Dark Shadows series. she is aware of the story since we looked at the tv remake with Ben Cross. Wish they had reruns of the original to help refamiliarize myself and my duaghter with the storyline. I bought Scotts book and it really helped to bring all into perspective. Johnny Depp did a great job as Barnabus. I was worried it would be all comedy, but it wasn't. The one thing missing should have been a tribute at the beginning or end in Memory of Jonathan Frid.

The previews had me excited and I was looking forward to seeing it. I watched the TV show faithfully when I was younger. What a disappointment!! Extremely slow with a few entertaining scenes. The only funny lines were the ones in the previews. If you're a huge Depp fan, you will probably enjoy it more than the average. Otherwise, save your money and wait for it to come out on DVD.

This was a great movie, provided you don't mind it moving along at a somewhat slower pace. I believe you also would need to truly enjoy Johnny Depp in order to really appreciate this movie properly. It was fun to watch, just not sure I would recommend spending the money to see in theater; maybe just wait for DVD to come out & rent instead!

Even though we were some of the oldest people in the theatre, late fifties, I think we got the most out of it. Part of the movie is set in 1972, so someone our age has to love it! So many clever little things in this movie make it, as a whole, very enjoyable. AFter all, you have to love "Alice Cooper." What a flashback.

Johnny Depp is quite good in this Tim Burton spoof of a movie. Depp's delivery of lines is slow-ish, but that is part of his intended creepiness. The movie's humor is dry. The dialogue is clever. There are funny culture clashes, such as Depp's fascination with a lava lamp, which to him seems like a blood fountain. The downside is that the movie goes on far too long.

The previews for this movie had me very excited. But I was very disappointed. The movie is slow and long. I should have waited to rent it.

I used to watch the Dark Shadows as a child and LOVED it! I was so excited that they remade it! The movie was fun, funny ,sexy and odd. It was everything that I thought that it would be. The only part that I did't like was when the castle burnt down:(

The movie did a good job of bringing together a complex story line in a concise manner. There were only a few things that seemed to deviate from expectations of the movie in a detrimental way.
Overall: enjoyable, a good watch.

While this movie was visually above average - it was difficult to know if this was a drama or a comedy or if it was a new genre of movie that I did not get nor did the audience.
Although the Burton-Depp-Bonham Carter is usually a HIT this was a miss in my book.
Save your money and borrow it when it goes to DVD.

Burton is one of the few directors working that comes out with a classic every time. When you are an artist that people either completely love or totally hate, that means he's original, even though half the stuff he does are remakes, he's still original, and that takes bravado. MUST SEE, along with the original series!
